That's a great idea Did you make the plate yourself ? What is the vaneer ? I would love to put a dark grain vaneer plate on my natural Stingray 5
Used a Squier VM plate as template. Got some 4mm ply and machined it down to 2mm (Thats the difficult bit lol) Veneered some birdseye maple on top. Reduced the overall size by 1.5mm all round. Strips of Black/boxwood binding glued around the edges then chamfered back to give you that 3 ply look. Varnished with household clear a few times then cut out the bell plate and neck profiles. Finally stuck on with double sided industrial tape. Its very tempting to just stick some veneer over a plastic scratch plate but give it a while and the veneer will shrink / move as all wood will and it will come away from the plastic. Glad you like it A

I have developed a thing for veneer scratch plates. Why spoil a nice bit of wood and wire with a slab of plastic!! More here: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 and a first attempt here: http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 A

Nice cheap unlined P/J fretless (Hohner)
apa replied to captain black's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ive got the J pro and they are bloody good basses for the money! Pups are better than a VM in my humble opinion. Yep they do indeed have the tilt grub screw in the neck plate. Lovely things. Grab a very under rated dark horse. A -

Id put an MM back where it belongs and keep the J neck pup. That would be interesting A
-
Took one of these to my tech. He said he couldnt see anything wrong with it. A

For Pick guard - anything BUT white looks good. I keep looking at this and Im liking it more and more. My imagination and modding bug is working overtime on the 5 pup onto 4 strings. Damn I might do that on my J bitza deluxe. Im assuming this is do-able on Jazz pups to?

I reshaped the head on my Harley Benton Acoutic. If its all taking off theres little problem. I used a round and half round rasp. The advantage of this is you are taking a little off at a time rather than cutting it all as with a saw. Then use sand paper wrapped around a tube on the concave bits to get a good finish etc. A
Hi folks I've been on the hunt for a Sunburst PJ with block markers, tort guard, P profile neck, 70s logo. So, when I saw this Roscoe Beck IV, which has virtually none of those attributes, I just had to buy it. In my defence, I've wanted one for years, since I first read about them... Sold as a used bass, but unplayed - virtually untouched, in fact. Plastic still on the pickguard, bag of goodies unopened, clear plastic ramp still in it's packet (what are these for, anyway?). First impressions plunking it in the office... medium-weight (8lb 9oz or thereabouts), resonant, beautiful... I'll use it at a rehearsal tonight, but I'll be taking it to out very own The Bass Doc tomorrow to have him run his eye over it. And then, if it's a keeper, I'll be asking him to make a tort guard for it. More as I have it!
Well not quite since during its travels its been through a few of our sticky fingers . Oh and thats NOT lemon oil on that rosewood finger board . Still an interesting purchase. Intreaging bridge to. A
As long as the basses are cut with a silver sickle by the light of a full moon they'll be good.
Naturally Oh and if you bring the scrumpy I'll bring the slice of bread and shot gun. We'll do the toasting A -
Total immersion in the Chalice Well overnight should do it, then send it to me for it's scrumpy baptism.
I could plant it on the hill to replace the holly thorn that got chopped down. I could be picking basses by the bushell by spring time A -

GHS Tapewound: http://www.ghsstrings.com/strings/bass/tapewound Their nicer than the roto's. They feel and sound less 'plasticy'. The winding has a matt finish so is easier on the fingers too. When I replace my rotos Ill be getting another set of these GHS's. Im actually a GHS convert and would recommend thier bright flats which are actually pressure wound so are easier on the fingers again and sound very nice too if you want a slightly dulled round sound. Theres another avenue to explore Best to get them off the bay direct from the US. Works out cheaper if not the same and more readily available. A

Is it a custom white Ray with matching headstock and ample room in the neck pocket? A -
"My last boyfriend was a bassist. His was much bigger and fatter and made me move and........... oh well. Anyway, so you say you can do it realy fast yeah?" or "Whats a fender?" (as per that Peugeot 306 ad) or "So tell me about this guy Nigel Clutterbuck he sounds realy cool" A

Stupidly Easy Tunes Which Are An Absolute Pleasure To Play
apa replied to Hot Tub's topic in General Discussion
Anything by Dr Feelgood. Its why I started (That and Entwistle). Realy nice to sit in the groove while you enjoy Wilko A -
I actually bought mine on the strength of some youtube clips and yep they do sound pretty good for the money. Dispite my moaning above I enjoy mine and enjoyed 'modding' it The side dots freaked me out. Dispite prefering unlined fretlesses I still need those little dots now and again and if it was a freebee then hell cheap at twice the price A
-
Harley Benton right? If it is your a lucky man because the 4 string I got was a complete dog . Ive tried taking the action down as much as I can but any more and it would be touching the bridge. Side dots are for a fretted. Side strap pin is for a left handed I will give you that the preamp isnt too bad for the money and its not a bad sound for the money. Which is what counts. I reshaped the head and veneered it with some sycamore and replaced the machine heads with black and wood effect. Also replaced the neck binding so I could put the dots in the right place. Nice project when all said and done. Oh and the inlay is better quality than the cheapo transfer on my Fender Kingman Not dissin the whole range or yours just sayin there may be a little variation in quality control A
flippant
Ha ha You live by the qwerty, you die by the qwerty. Death by pedanticide And to the OP. Despite the side tracking and constructive critisicm in this thread you've had 800+ views, 30+ posts and 90+ votes. Pretty succesful if you ask me . Oh and now I sound patronising. Just add it to the list A NOTE: checked twice for spelling
Further pedant alert: I assume you mean dyslexia? As to the question, well I didn't vote because I didn't find an option that said 'None - I don't like Precision basses'. Which, for me at least, makes any question that might be there irrelevant. Tips to the OP (in case it isn't already blindingly obvious): 1. Even if it seems too obvious to say it, ask the question anyway. The purpose of a poll is to get an answer to a question. 2. If you can, try to include a 'get out' or 'spoiler' option for the small number of poor benighted suckers who don't adhere to your world view of (in this case) the bass guitar. [/Pedantry]
It also stops smart asses like me posting flipant remarks that sidetrack your well intended thread A
You could be wrong on that: http://www.zimbio.co...ss+Mexican+Case
Lol. Well its correct on the headstock so sorry doesnt count so you cant vote - ITS THE LAW A

Actually your ALL WRONG or knew what the question was. Theres no one in the world who owns a preSiCion bass A pedantic Christmas to you all A
