unless you want a project, it seems like a huge hassle.. first off, im not sure how the tension of 5 strings would affect a four string jazz neck.. the spacing would be very very tight by the nut... replacing the nut... changing the bridge.... also changing the 4 string pickups... drilling for another tuner... i really cant see it being worth while.... or working...
As it happens I am up for a project but I agree, the spacing would be silly narrow. Im waiting for someone to tell me the spacing is OK. Which I doubt will happen thanks anyway A
-
I have my doubts to hence the question Good idea on the individual bridges though A
-
Specifically a Squire VM. Is this advisable? Im sure the neck will be ok its more a case of the string spacing and a suitable bridge. Does anyone know of one or heard of it or done it? I can imagine a standard P or Ray with a wider neck being ok but the narrow J?? cheers A

Insanely clean 1962 Jazz Bass....
apa replied to Rick's Fine '52's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Ok This may be a stupid question since no one has doubted the authenticity of the thing BUT................. Shouldnt that tortoise scratchplate be shrunk and distorted and pulling the screws out all over the place since the thing is 50 years old? I thought thats what happened to the old style plates? Same goes for the Precision. Also the cases these things are in look alot more worn than the basses? And finally I dont read anywhere that says this is all original, hasnt been resprayed etc etc. I have no idea what so ever about original stuff like this so just askin A -
Hey Hey Nice one. Cool catchy tune too :-) I also particularly liked the M1 rendition :-D Bummer about the gear. Bet that didnt help with the nerves!! A

Anyone know where i can get my jazz neck bound and blocked?
apa replied to tommorichards's topic in Bass Guitars
Are the blocks on Squier VM Jazzes not stickers? Look pretty pretty convincing if they are.
Probably but its a bit difficult to tell so either way they look good. A -
I tried a set of those a while ago -- Absolute CRAP -- the plastic casing went bang and broke apart when I tried to tune the E string! ( Standard tuning on a P-Bass ) Wilky's are usually very good! Will.
Plastic casing!! . Thanks for that 2x18. I agree about Wilkinsons. The search goes on.................... A

Record shops closing? Who cares? new documentary
The demise of the small independant record shop is something that i mourn for more than the loss of the arrays of rare and colourfull vinyl and picture sleeves on show. My local record shop in chester was a place named Penny Lane records. For us it was a place to meet, hangout, catch up with old freinds, meet new ones, etc. You could stand for hours flicking through the racks or squinting at every LP cover, and nobody bothered you to move on, or said to you "are you going to make that one Clash single last all day" PS: when you were going to spend £5 on an LP, and that was maybe your entire weeks spending money, you took a great deal of care to get exactly what you wanted. all avaiable options were weighed up and considered. We didnt have the internet of course. but after you had a few LP's you could start to go round to a mates and let him tape it while you looked through his music and asked him to tape you one in return. This and John Peel, were our only ways of hearing new sounds. I genuinely think that this made us more appreciative of the music. (I hope and belive its not just me saying "eeh when I were a lad... etc)
All very true. I'd forgotten about Penny Lane. Had a particularly good Folk and Jazz section if I recall. Remember Tudor House? I think its still there but is more of a cafe now. It was a Goths fashion heaven out front then the records in the back. The slightly camp big guy who ran it had a rare Who EP which was rediculously priced because he didnt want to sell it! A -

Ah the hours spent in Phase One waiting for the bus home in Wrexham. Then there was Cobb Records (Sister shop to the one featured in the video for 'Rockferry' by Duffy). Then later Jamming with Edward in Harrow. Theres one in Glasto I pop into from time to time. They still have their place. They wont die. Just change with the times. Stock the stuff people want to buy and they will live. Just like pubs. A -

Thanks for that ikay. I know, the worlds full of those style ones. I want the open back with a skirt style like the Hipshots. To be more precise its to put on a 5 string fender style head but as 5 in a row rather than 4+1 thanks anyway A
-
Hi Im wondering if there is a cheaper alternative to the hipshot ultralites? Same style preferebly. Im willing to forgo the weight advantage. Its more the size and style. This is the one I prefer with a 1/2" shaft: Cheers in advance A

Congrats So whens the interview for your profile? That Neil Buchanans quit an interesting and versatile all round good geeza. A -
Very similar to the OP but on a somewhat down market level. Been through the acoustics, rays and precisions and have come to the conclusion that a Jazz is my thang. From the growl for rock to the burp for funk to the smooth for jazz. Not got or want an old real one but hey Im happy. A

I've had a think. Is it the done thing to have a piezo go through the eq stage along with the mags or as I perceive it, as a seperate channel running in parallel and then coming together at the volume/blend stage? A
