It looks like I can see the speakers in situ. And the background looks surprisingly like a rehearsal studio. And the cab is listed in the bass amplifier section. Very shrewd selling tactic! Bound to start a bidding war. I would guess that it's faulty, and the flippant description deems the cab to be 'sold as seen'.
Exactly. He cant be bothered to google 'ampeg'!!! Not big, not clever and Id call it dishonest A
Yep, seen that one a few times. Think my all time favourite has to be "Its a Wonderful Life". Has a lot of personal meaning to me, and alongside David Niven, Jimmy Stewart was one of my favourite actors.
Would you believe Ive never seen it!! Supposed to be quit dark and gritty isnt it? Its usually the case with classics where they drop into parady and derided but when you actually watch them they is far more to them than the cleche they are made out to be. A
still a bloody good film either way, nowt like a good classic weepie!
Dare I mention Good by Mr Chips (The original of course) A
One of my favourites too. But wasn't it released in 1946, 4 years after the yanks had joined in and a year after the war had ended?
Your right!! I must have misread it somewere or was about another film!! Hmmm Ill have a search for where I saw it A EDIT: Good old Wiki: Anglo-American relations The film was originally suggested by a British government department to improve relations between the Americans in the UK and the British public [sup][10][/sup] following Powell and Pressburger's contributions to this sphere in A Canterbury Tale two years earlier, though neither film received any government funding nor input on plot or production. There was a degree of hostility against the American servicemen stationed in the UK for the invasion of Europe. They were viewed in some quarters as latecomers to the war and as "overpaid, oversexed and over here" by a public that had suffered three years of bombing and rationing, with many of their own men fighting abroad. The premise of the film is a simple inversion: The English pilot gets the pretty American woman rather than the other way round, and the only national bigotry is voiced by the first American casualty of the Revolutionary War against the British. Raymond Massey, portraying an American, was a Canadian national at the time the film was made, but became a naturalised American citizen afterward. Hey I was close (ish) A

Cant help with the music but A matter of life and death is my all time favourite film ever!! Call me an old softy It was made as a propaganda tool to get American sympathy before they jouined the war but still its an amazing feat of cinematography and the love story is sublime. Oh and yep the music is very haunting particularly the 'going up the stairway to heaven' piano bit. Which I think your refering to. And finally..... I do have a bit of a soft spot for Kathleen Byron: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathleen_Byron Just sayin A
And before anyone says "try putting it on sale" it's not mine ... I've seen it for sale locally and it looks like a bit of a bargain. Natural finish, maple neck with blocks and a j-retro (or something that looks very like one, 3 stacked knobs, 2 mini-toggles). It's not something I'll make a move on (the j-retro is interesting but I don't play 4s anymore), so I'll let on where it is later ... if it looks like a bargain. Andy
Any update on this baby? A

Multiple bass projects - it is all Basschat's fault!
apa replied to mcnach's topic in General Discussion
Hee hee, Know how your feeling mc....... erm....... nach . Thankfully my GAS is nicely staggered. As Im doing one the next one is in my head. I have a totally bespoke one in mind and a strange hankering for a Jag!! but the urge is subsiding at the mo. I came to BC with 2 and now have 11! I think Ive found an alternative and cheaper way of feeding the habit though. Its, shall we say, on a 'smaller scale'. Watch this space ........... Nice stuff going on in the mcnach whittleshop though. You do have the holidays coming so should be productive and a way to burn off all those mincepies A -
here i am tyring to find the funds to upgrade my squier J to a nice pair of wizards as my christmas treat and now i have J-retro GAS too
J-Retro and Wizard 64's - a potent mix A
Relevance... relevance... tch... who cares about relevance when it looks THAT good! I could argue that illustrates what a J-Retro looks like. But I won't. And... it's mcnach mcnach mcnach mcnach! Not mcnaSh...
OOOOhhh do I hear the mcnashing of teeth from mcnach?? Pity the sockets and switches are soldered to the PCB or you could have gone all black like my Rosie A

That IS very pretty mcnash. BTW remind me what the relevence of those pics to this thread where again?? A
Have you tried the DiMarzio tapewounds? Interested to know where the GHS ones sit in relation to the TruBass and the DiMarzios.
Ill bear those in mind. Not in the market for a set at the mo but when I find an excusse............. A

Bigbeatnut I recone that bass is at half price. I summise the seller (Im guessing its not a music shop from what youve told) looked at the Squier name and just about new enough to think its a cheap copy that only kids play. Who said you cant get a real bargain these days (Right thats the bit to keep me on topic ) Jose I too pondered a black plate but never got round to it. BTW unless you have a bench drill it may be a little dodgey trying to widen holes in steel plate 'free hand' at that diameter. If its only a mm or so I would get some dowel and course emery cloth. Will be slower but you wont end up with either a propeller on the end of your drill or a hexagonal hole! A
Natural and maple, duncan designed... it seems it's probably a Squier Jazz "Vintage Modified" series. I bought mine, used, for £180. To buy it for £160 I'd say it's a great price. That's with the stock controls. If it indeed as a J-Retro then It's a tremendous bargain. Funny, I have a J-Retro that I'm going to put on my VM Jazz.
What mcnash said including the price payed and the bit about putting a J retro in a VM (Parallel lives or what!! ) A

Slightly OT I suppose but they are technically flats. I would recommend GHS Nylon Tape wound. I thought the Roto Trubasses were good but the GHS are less 'plasticy', more earthy sounding. Basically a softer string. If thats what your after of course. A

This happened to me when the site changed and I posted about it (Somewhere) I get the 'google adds' thingy if you hover over the back button. I also have to press 3-4 times to go back. My solution is to right click and open in new tab. Its an inconvenience that only happens on this site. Im on Vista and XP. A

When I was looking for a fretless acoustic the major stumbler was the fact that they all seemed to be short scales!! I believe the crafter is? The only two I found that where not silly money were the Ashbury and the Harley Benton. I plumped for the HB and just skipping over the minor details of the side dots being in the fretted position and the neck strap button was on the Lefty side Its actually not a bad little number. Strung with GHS Black Nylons it has a very woody sound. I was actually sold on the Youtube vids of it. A
The difference is that Mr Hill has Papal dispensation to tote 'exotic' instruments. OIC! Ouch! I think your best bet is as I and icastle say, Get yourself another set of standard bass machine heads and replace just the broken bit. These things are mass produced and I doubt that Stagg used something special. The winder style and more importantly the cogg is exactly the same on my Ryders, Hohner and Fender as on my Stagg so Its an 80% chance you'll hit lucky with another standard set. Couldnt be easier to replace. Just take it off the head and unscrew the big central screw on the cogg. To be even more certain try and buy a set that has the same style where the 'ear' is attached to the shaft. A BTW count yourself luck. I have heard tell that the whole heads can snap if dropped Actually I just took a wilkinson machine head apart and compared the bits on my Stagg. They are idential apart from the string post profile. You will have to keep the original post because the wilkinsons are too high, as I said in my orig post. Drop me a PM if you would like them at a reasonable price
-
erm no sorry. I did do a quick google but nothing came up. Your best bet would be to contact Stagg UK or a dealer! A
Hi all, I've knocked over my Stagg EUB and broken one of the tuners completely in half! any ideas where I can get a replacement? Many thanks Craig
Just a quick idea: When you say you have 'broken one completely in half' do you mean the winder? If so you could buy a new set and just replace all the winders if they are the same size and thread. Then you keep the string winding bit and know they will fit. Just an option A
