1.
So he should, that "There goes Rhyming Simonon" album is rubbish.....
Are you taking Simon or Simonon?
2. Loads of great bass sounds and artists in here I'd never checked out , thanks for that. I guess I'll have to echo my thoughts on this choice.... a P-bass with flats, tho he plays it well http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzyj3Wxhjr4
3. Cool, I plan on buying tickets when they go on sale here next week for the show they will be doing in August. It's going to be a long wait
4. Interesting topic and something I'm trying to work out myself. I have seen Wobble live a fair number of times and he's normally been galloping with both fingers and.. I recently started having bass lessons (after 30 odd years of playing) and my Teacher picked me up straight away on my only using one finger most of the time to play, I hadn't even realised it myself till he pointed it out! I think on my part it was/is lazyness and have now made myself aware of this and tried to go back to using a 2 finger technique. With Wobble I don't know why it is, but I do know he's dead tight on his rhythms no matter how many fingers he uses.
5. I will try post pics once it shows up. Thats one bass for sale that I don't have to feel too guilty about splashing out on lol.
6.

Nice, I'd guess that's made something after 76, if thats the serial no on the headstock?
7. I was born in 64 so normally I'd say the 64, but in this case I'd like to own Norms old bass even more.
8. Well done, you kept it pretty tight. I think I'd of got lost lol.
9. Ok so I was a bit bored today and maybe spent too much time looking at old videos on youtube.. but Whilst I always had a crush on Suzi Q in the 70's and loved her leather look .. seeing this maybe impromptu bass solo from her back in 2009 makes me feel she never really gave a lot of love to her bass playing. 10. I'd add Jah Wobble and Robbie Shakespear, more by their groove/feel than sound.
11.
What's the fingerboard material?
It's a nice yellowed Maple
12.
hey guys would these:- http://www.ebay.co.u...76#ht_540wt_721 be the right length etc to get for my Fender Classic 50's P Bass?
I'm sure they will fit if the bass is toploadable, La Bella don't reccomend string tru. I myself use the slightly lighter FL version.
13.
Just ordered a set of La Bella medium gauge Deep talkin`flats. I sooooo want to be a flats-player, as though I`ve used Rotos for years, and certainly can`t find any rounds to better them, there`s still something missing. I think it`s that rounds twang, and to get a thump from them, you have to wait til they`ve died. Keep your fingers crossed for me, fellow Basschatters.
Good choice Lozz, I have all my bass's strung with the FL's. They take a week or 2 to break in and then start to keep on sounding better imo. I even prefer the slap sound I get out of them to rounds.. (I don't slap much, but for the odd bit of a song)!
14.
I just got a 1977 Precision, Don. Vintage white, which after 34 means yellow. 10lbs in weight, plays and sounds fantastic. There some definate mojo about the older ones. Only problem is, they cost an arm & a leg!
Yes I saw that bass! and it might of been what kicked off my lust to try find something just like it. So I can blame you lol. Hopefully something will turn up here at some point where the seller is willing to ship.
15. This thread is giving me even more lust to try get hold of an older P-bass.
16.
Can't watch the vid at work, but I really like Hadrians, would love to see the Chinese one & Berlin's was a classic.
17. Check out whats hanging on the wall! Don't ask me how I came acrosss the link lol.
18. This week I got to try out my new 600 with the band. @ 4 ohm through my GB Neox212t I didn't have to set the master past 10 0clock with the gain and volume sat at 12 to get a fat, warm and articualte sound. Lots of power left in the tank should I need it. I had been using and was happy with the Shuttle 6, but now find the extended rounder low end I'm getting with the 600 nice as well as being able to dial down the gain and get a pretty clean uncolured sound if needed as well at least to my ears. Nice amp! 600 or 900 good choice np.
Here we go, that's the 62' Pre CBS I throw in. For all the other basses, please PM if interested, thanks
Nice! Just out of curiosity and if you don't mind the question, how much might a bass like that be worth?
20. I can't really help you decide... but can tell you I have been using a BG500 for over a year and a half now and had no real problems with it other than the little preset buttons falling out. Which has surprised me as I have been half expecting it to clap out, as I'm a beleiver in you only get what you pay for. I'd say it's pretty good value for money, has a lot of features and you can get a wide range of sounds out of it, it's also pretty loud and I had no problems with it keeping up with the band 2 fairly loud guitars etc. It has now been demoted to my home practice and standby amp, it lacked a little bottom end for the sound I was after and also the DI out on mine seemed to distort the signal post eq (not sure why that was)! All in all a decent budget amp.. and if you buy from Thomann I know they have a decent returns policy, so I'm sure you'd be covered if you didn't like it. Btw when I was looking at buying a combo I was also looking at the GK stuff and would of probablly bought the 212 combo if it had been available... Good luck.
21. Ok so just a follow up on this. My replacement Streamliner 600 just turned up in the post today a quick test (with some suggested settings from TB) and I think I'm going to like the warm fat sound I'm getting from this amp. I have to wait till band practice next monday to be able to put it properly through it's paces but it's got the potential so far to have no regrets on swapping it out for the Shuttle 6.0
