1. A drum amp sounds perfect for bass imo. These will be full range to cope with anything from kick to cymbals.
2. It has to be Dune Tune by L42, or is that too 80's?
3. If you know next to nothing about Jazz basses, you best get yourself out there and try a load. That should give you an idea if it's 'the one' for you before blowing a load of cash on the ultimate one. Just a thought
4. Someone must've posted the wrong picture...
5. It has lots of newish non original parts, and the neckplate serial number indent appears a bit 'thin'. The lack of proper date stamps on neck and body don't help.
6.
Not sure about that... they certainly have a character IMO, but not like other (less subtle) pickups. I love EMGs and have a set in my Geddy Lee J
You're spot on, that's what I was trying to convey. I'm currently using a set of JVX's on my Jazz, and want to get a standard J set for my next project. Great value from Thomann currently.
7. I'd opt for EMG's. A good allrounder, and excellent for studio use, where low noise is key. These probably have less 'character' than others, but therein lies their strength.
8. Start with some new strings and a good setup. Play it for some time, which might give you further clues as to possible upgrades.
9. A lot of the 'growl' is in those pickups combined with Geddy's playing style.
10. It could even be painted plywood or chipboard Definitely not a fancy wood.

GK Warmth

A raw gnarly sound can be diwn to the speakers, especially if there's also a tweeter involved. Temper the treble and get some warmth in the midrange.
12.
Any idea what Rob would charge to fret this??? Could open up the possibility for those who don't do fretless...
Might be worth asking Rob for the cost of a separate fretted neck. Then you'll have two necks (better than one)
13. Start with a simple basic pattern, and change it slightly, by creating some accents, to mark the changes.
14. That was great. The guitar really did it for me...
15. Very nice. Love the bass sound.
16. Phil Jones BigHead. You can always stick it through your computer speakers if you want to practice unplugged, and you can record directly to a DAW.
17. Purchased a Jazz body from Graham. Excellent seller, highly recommended.
18. The Noel Gallagher signature would devalue a cheap guitar.
19. Also worth considering are the Presto Nylonwound Ultralites, on Thomann for about £85. They're very stable and nice and easy to play both pizz and slap. A very well made string.
