  1. I’m not even starting a pun - I’ll just get my coat and ...Kingbass out of here...
  2. I’m with Dan Dare on the PJB cabs - great sound, but take some drive. There is no substitute for speaker area when it comes to output (everything else being equal). Personally, I’d go for a lightweight 2 x 10 cab (preferably 8 Ohm, so a further one could be added for those stadium gigs 😉).
  3. I’d start a band with just double bass & piano - who needs guitar 😉
  4. Sounds to me like there is a mutual ‘not fussed it’s not about the bass’ in the band. Wouldn’t work for me...
  5. Tom Scholz Bass Ace headphone amplifier, including original headphones. In fully working order and very good condition. Price reduced to £12.50 which includes postage. This is the original pre-Dunlop model. Not exactly hifi quality, as these units are notoriously noisy. The original headphones aren’t particularly great either, however, you can use your own (no bluetooth I’m afraid 😉). Minimalist operation (no power switch - just plug in), with single volume control, mid and treble boost - simples! I’ve owned this from new, but don’t have a box or manual for it. Battery (single 9V) operation or power adapter operation possible, although the mains adapter was an optional item at the time (not supplied). Very usable for quiet practice.
  6. I did a similar thing, using a crappy cassette player with phono out into my little Mackie desk. From the Mackie, I took another phono out to my Tascam digital hand held recorder (into the aux input). Worked a treat, as the Mackie allowed me to adjust levels to get a better signal to noise ratio.
  7. Thank you for the endorsement. It could be yours... 😉
  8. Hello MrProud, battery drain is listed as 160mA in the manual, giving about 3 to 4 hours use on alkaline Duracells, depending on conditions (volume level etc). I’m somewhat disappointed with the noise from the bass buddy through headphones, with the graphic and volume pushed to full. It’s fine for practice, but I wouldn’t be happy using it to record. I’m very much open to (low) offers.
  9. For sale my Digitech X-Series Bass Synth Wah Bass Envelope Filter. Complete with box and manual, in unmarked condition. I’ve owned this from new and the unit has only been out of the box a handful of times. Never been gigged. Fully working order. Price reduced to £59, which includes postage.
  10. Roberto bought my AI Amp head. True gent, great communicator, perfect transaction.
  11. Welcome - you're never too old to start the bass journey. Enjoy!
  12. Now sold - thanks for looking. For sale, PJB Bass Buddy, which I've owned from new since 2007. It's in reasonable condition with a few minor surface scratches, where it's been sitting in a bag with some of my other stuff. Everything works, although there is a hiss on the 630Hz and 2.5kHz graphic slider when pushed to the top. I did have the unit serviced some years ago by Synergy Distribution, after it got more noisy. Comes complete with box, carry case, power supply, kettle lead, and adapters as shown. Price reduced to £35 including postage, due to noise / hiss at higher volume / graphic setting.
  13. It’s all about the rigidity of the “system” which the string is connected to. The more rigid the instrument, the longer the string vibrates and the more efficient it is at producing harmonics. A through neck carbon graphite bass typifies this, a bass made of jelly will produce no harmonics whatsoever (but will taste good - if you like jelly, vegan options available) 😉
  14. A stack to beat all stacks! Stunning!!
  15. Impressive collection - that’s a serious amount of low frequency wattage!
  16. Happy New Year Yves, enjoy your time here. Good call on the Trace Elliott gear - wish I’d never sold mine (I struggled lifting it into the car).
  17. Just returned to the forum following a hiatus. Now taking a low key ‘bedroom approach’ to bass playing, having left my band a few years ago. looking forward to joining in with the chat again. Wil
  18. If your slapping stamina is like that of djordje stijepovic, you'll have no problem with the obligatos I found the pirastro obligato tension slightly higher compared to thomastik weichs. The obligato is a great string and very versatile imo, and fine for occasional slap. The other option is to get the thomastik solo set, slightly lower tension compared to weichs when tuned to concert pitch, and still good for pizz and arco, as well as fast slapping.
