1. From reading some of the comments I expected him to be awful. This fella is rather good! I wish I was the drummer he isn't...
2. I wish I still had my Trace 4x10 150W combo, way more grunt than my current class D affair supposedly rated at 500W.
3. I used to play arco on an NS eub. I wouldn't spend a fortune on a bow, given it's not going to make a marked difference to the sound on eub, unless you're planning to use it on an acoustic db in future. A 3/4 db bow would be good to start with.
4. I'd recommend buying the parts from the for sale forum here on Basschat, as and when the bits come up at the right price. That's what I've done and I just need some pickups now. It may take longer, but is more fun
5. If you're hankering after an upright tone, there's only one solution imo. When you first start out, it won't sound anything like what you hear on a recording. It'll take time and lots of practice to develop a good tone on upright.
6. If you're using it as a shop front, I would condense the site down to one page. This can contain all the relevant info, contact details and links to the various social media sites. Links to your music demonstrating what you sound like is a must for me. Like the black & white theme, and would stick to a couple of sharp, snazzy pictures of the band. One sharp, stylish page is better than several very 'average' pages imo.
7. I wouldn't dismiss non-bass combos. The Samson battery powered Expedition range is very good value, small, and you can take it anywhere. I'm looking to get one for small gigs and outdoor venues.
8. I presume you've checked the obvious, such as sample rate settings?
9. Just like it's fretted counterpart, a fretless needs to be correctly tuned. If the saddles are not in the right position, tuning will be out as you move higher up the neck. Obviously you can compensate for this on a fretless, but it will make it much harder to play in tune, if the intonation is not where you expect it to be. Check the harmonic at the 12th fret position against the fingered ('fretted') note. These should both be in tune. When you play a note on a fretless with your finger perpendicular to the board, you can go from slightly flat to sharp by slightly rolling your finger back and forth, if that makes sense.
10.
Well, were going to have to agree to disagree on that one. That's like saying a concrete neck would feel the same as a wooden neck if it had the same finish on.
I have and use both, and to me there is no difference in 'feel'. Perhaps you should try a few graphite necks and see what you think
11. There is no perceptible difference in 'feel' between a graphite or wooden neck, it's all down to finish.
12. Received a Jazz pickguard from Nick. All as described, speedy and smooth transaction. Top chap!
13. At home I tend to practice through headphones or powered speakers via my computer. If you have these facilities you won't need an amp. Just a thought
14. I have the Obligatos on my Stentor and they're a great string for pizz, very stable, great tone. Similar in tension to Spiracore Weich's. Can't compare them to the Eva's though. If your bass is really that quiet, get it checked out, as suggested previously. It depends on the 'acoustic setting' though, as DB can be difficult to hear depending on who you're competing with.
15. They're very easy to fit. I used the ABM's for my first Jazz clone project. Couldn't be happier.
16. Both the ABM and Status monorail units are great, no issues to report
17. Through body stringing increases the placebo effect.
18. They are Kent Armstrong, and look the same as those fitted to my Strata.
19. I've used both a Realist and a Bassmax. My preference is for the Bassmax, which I currently use, as for me it's more resistant to feedback and easier for live use. Sound-wise it'll be a case of suck it and see, as different pickups respond differently on different DB's. Mine's a Gedo with ply back/sides and solid top.
20. Phil Jones BigHead, or a small Mackie VLZ mixer.
