1. Having owned 7 basses at one time and slowly shaving it down to the two I actually play, I can see the appeal of one bass and if it weren't for the fretted/fretless thing I may well have ended up there myself. Actually I wouldn't because I know for a fact that there is a #3 out there somewhere!
2. I have a lined fretless that I had converted from a fretted originally. Went for maple lines against a rosewood board because it looks nice and I know I most likely wouldn't put the time in to really get to grips with unlined. With that said it is now my most played bass so who knows, maybe I was foolish? If lines are good enough for Bill Laswell, Jaco and Juan Alderete then I daresay they're good enough for me.
3. Pretty much all the music I buy now is digital downloads, mostly through bandcamp. Our house isn't massive so I haven't got room for an enormous CD library any more and I kind of enjoy being able to purchase music from bands all around the world and enjoy it straight away. Plus I think bandcamp's royalty policy is fair and I have a lot of respect for their transparency about it compared to Amazon and iTunes. Another small thing that I enjoyed was that I bought an album on release and a couple of months later received an email from the artist thanking everyone that purchased along with some information about how the album was made. Not necessarily something every artist on there does but the framework is in place for a much greater level of intimacy with the artist than buying a CD off Amazon.
4. Did any of you current Helix owning chaps use the POD HD series previously and if so did you find it a major step up in terms of quality? I only ask as I currently have the desktop bean thing and whilst it's alright this latest update is making a Helix look very tempting...
5.
Chunk Systems Brown Dog does a nice synthy/gated sound.
Double +1 for this! My favourite fuzz ever, though sadly discontinued. They do crop up in the US occasionally but usually for $$$.
6. No mention of Don Caballero yet? The American Don album is basically the blueprint for every math rock album that followed! Other top pop picks are: This Town Needs Guns (now TTNG) Cleft Tricot self-evident Yona Kit American Football Faraquet
7. Another concurring voice here, Mark is indeed a pleasure to deal with! Pedal arrived lightning quick and well packaged, what more can you ask for?
8. Good to see love for Boards of Canada, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Secret Chiefs 3, Slint and Bark Psychosis! My top picks would have to be: Shellac; Steve Albini's current band. Noisy, melodic, complex, punk. Well worth a million listens. Ui: Funky post rock that owes as much to ESG and Liquid Liquid as it does to any rock group. Tortoise: are they classed as obscure? Definitely classed as unmissable. Estradasphere: a million miles a minute genres hopping madness. Self-evident: Math rock but with tunes and vocals. Faraquet: Like Self-evident but they came first.
9. To the chaps that have used Danny's service, how did you get a hold of him? I've tried using the email on the website but it appears to just bounce back... EDIT ignore that, looks like he got it as I had a reply within the hour!
10. Just remembered, for the Netflix users amongst us there is a 4 part documentary on the history of hip hop from the very beginning up to the G-Funk explosion that is well worth your time. Covers the early big names and the guys that didn't break through so you get a taste of a diverse bunch of artists.
11. There are a few albums that I would have to heartily second; Public Enemy, Dr. Octagon, DJ Shadow (and also Avalanches as far as the plunder-phonic instrumental thing goes) Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. I cannot stress the importance of Wu Tang Clans 36 Chambers though. There is a reason that album took them from nothing to corporation-level big! Also the first batch of solo albums from GZA, Method Man and Raekwon and Ol' Dirty Bastard's two solo albums. At the time pretty unique production values that gave a unifying aesthetic and created a clan. Slightly odder picks for me would be: cLOUDDEAD Dâlek
12. Some stuff gone, still got a ways to go! I am of course open to discounts for multiple purchases and will consider trades. Chance your arm, what's the worst I can say?
13. EDIT: Unfortunately I'm forced to call time on this sale due to some issues with regards to posting equipment. It's a fact of life living on an island rather than on the mainland but in this sale alone I have had one pedal completely lost in transit and one that has been seized buy HRMC for VAT payment having already prepaid it! I have (hopefully) made good with the buyer whenever an issue has come up because I don't want to see people losing out when they take a risk buying gear online, even on the best used bass gear marketplace in Europe! TL,DR; HMRC and Royal Mail aren't my friend even though I played real nice with them and selling pedals has become really stressful when spreading joy and noise should have been the order of the day! Thanks to everyone that bought a toy, hope they bring you loads of enjoyment. DOD Meatbox - £100 SOLD Sick little subsynth/octaver. You all know what this is about. Used maybe 4 times at home? DOD Gonkulator - £100 WITHDRAWN Splendid little ringmod but I now own a Moog. Fuzzrocious Rat Tail - £75 WITHDRAWN COG Custom 'Colonel Richter' - £150 SOLD Picked this up through the forum as well. Absolute steal for the money, I'm only looking for what I put into it so whoever picks this up is getting a phenomonal bargain. Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe - £180 WITHDRAWN I might change my mind on this one, beautiful filter and fantastic for synthy sweeps with an expression pedal. 14. Just when I thought I was at the tail end of FX GAS! Had a meatball clone a few years back that I couldn't make heads nor tails of and would still like a chance to rectify that situation.
15. Bought a 3leaf Octabvre from Rhys, top bloke to deal with, you should buy things from him too!
16. Just received the 3leaf You're Doom I bought from Mikkel, top bloke to deal with and the pedal got across Europe in what must be record time!
17. I LOVE my VB-2W! Easily my favourite pedal purchase of this year, something that is this strange shouldn't sound so good.
18. Took a punt on a set of platinum a little while ago, not really expecting them to beat out my current favourites (Kalium) but I must say I was very pleasantly surprised indeed! Really smooth feeling, not too zingy and the string to string balance is very even. Would certainly be interested in their take on a flat wound string as well.
19. I had a Robot Factory Meatwad that I couldn't get on with at all and also foolishly sold a Chunk Systems 00funk along with an Aguilar Agro. Not bad pedals at all but they just weren't a good fit for me at the time. Would really like to get them back in actually.
20. Currently own 2 of the waza craft line (DM-2w and VB-2w) and can definitely see myself getting this one. Boss are knocking it out of the park with this line!
21. Bought a Boss OC2 from Kevin and it was an absolute pleasure! Great communication, really quick postage what more could you ask for? Deal with confidence!
22.
To the OP, I've had both the Mastotron and the Oxide and both work wpvery well with active bass
Ooh, the Oxide is good too! Pretty versatile as it does a passable Brassmaster impression as well.
23. Yet another vote for the Brown Dog. A beast of a fuzz, I've never left the house without it!
