1. Don't go as far as having a set schedule (listen to this many new bands a week etc.) But always have an ear open for something new. I have a Spotify account that I use mainly for work which is a great way to find new bands but if I come across something special I make a point of buying it. I've sort of come the other way from when I first got my job at the tender age of 19 and spent a few years buying approximately 5 albums a week, every week!
2. On the one hand this seems to be the antithesis of Fodera's usual output but on the other hand this is going for pre-CBS prices. If I was going to splash that sort of money on a P-bass then I would probably go the way of a proper hand made instrument rather than something that was designed to be built as cheaply as possible...
3.
Move it on and grab this Atelier Z short scale off the u-box which I'd say would be pretty nice
Saw that this morning on there, makes me wonder if I really need short scale?
4. What ones are good? I've got an original Boomerang and while I do very much like it,I'm kind of looking for something a bit more capable. I would ideally like something that can run more than one loop with good sound quality and not requiring a PhD to use. I've essentially narrowed it down to a Boomerang iii or a Pigtronix Infinity but am I forgetting anything? Cheers in advance!
5. Well, I'm glad I don't listen to anyone before I have uploaded my track. As a wise man once said, there ain't half been some clever b@stards!
6. Here is my little contribution; https://soundcloud.c...66/solar-ascent Thrown down in one fairly short session (and can't you tell!) but wanted to grab inspiration whilst it was upon me. Look forward to checking out everyone else's efforts now.
7. Many thanks Dad for taking the time to write such thoughtful reviews for all the pieces, it must have taken no small amount of time! It really added to the competition (from my point of view anyway) rather than just having a vote at the end. It lends authenticity and reads like the sidebar reviews in a proper music magazine. Bravo.
8. Just bought a COG pedal from Paul. Packaged better than when you deal with an actual online store and all in all a top seller!
9.
I'm currently using an Eventide Space, which is more of a multi-effects, the reverbs are amazing. It's expensive though.
+1 this really is one hell of a reverb unit! Really good for bass as well with the ability to apply the reverb to certain frequencies and keep the low end clear of mud. Shimmer and Blackhole settings are worth the price of admission alone.
10. I'll chip in my meagre contribution at this point. https://soundcloud.c...-tree-cried-out Couple of fluffs in it but overall pretty happy with my first attempt at this sort of thing.
11. It's a domestic Japanese model, pretty sure they aren't exported to worldwide dealers but they are available if you order them from the Japanese stores that ship internationally.
12. She's a beaut Mikko! The clear pg on quilted maple looks really smart.
13. Arrgh, they're making an Edwards Stream now? That's not fair on my poor wallet. Quite the looker too. I've heard a lot of good things about the old J4 basses, are they really that good?
14. I really like the Wonderlove I picked up recently, gets pretty syrupy for me. Xerograph Deluxe is cool although I wouldn't reach for it as a traditional funk filter, you can coax a decent DOD FX25 impression. SA BEF Pro does a bit of everything, you can get a pretty convincing bit of quack out of it as well a laser noises.
15. A real shame, probably quite an underrated but nonetheless massive influence on hard rock and metal. Hearing Overkill for the first time as a young 'un was mindblowing and his drumming was truly relentless and pounding. Can you imagine the Thrash metal scene blooming without him?
16.
Never seen an ESP bass for sale sadly, I love my ESP Alexi though.
ESP Japan basses turn up very rarely in Europe, as far as I've seen. Guitars more often, had an LTD Alexi which was very nice, the fullblooded one must be lovely. Fretmeister, was it the blood crack one with the hockeystick headstock? If so, colour me jealous! The tuners on the Amaze are cool, you see them on quite a few Japanese basses, especially Bacchus and the like, no idea of the make mind but a lot nicer than the elephant ears we are normally subjected too...
17. Never previously been one to past pictures of basses (never thought my gear was worthy of comment) but acquired these two fellas over the course of the past year and am pretty darn pleased with them to be honest! First up, an ESP Vintage Four: Came with Seymour Duncan Antiquities and a D-Tuner as upgrades. Lovely vintage tone as one would expect from the pickups. Best Precision I've played, just nudging out my '82 Ibanez Blazer. Secondly, an ESP Amaze: Beautiful neck, was a bit of a punt as I only ever played a (really) cheap jazz a few years ago that I absolutely butchered (frets ripped out, old nut exploded so tried to fashion one out of some old plastic) as a teenager. This completely eliminated any hesitation I had about Jazzes. The proper MIJ ESP is massively underrated, I would happily put it up against any of the big names and in my experience these have bested MIA Fenders and Musicman. Just to finish off this post I will include a family shot including a couple of skinny stringers (PS those aren't my shoes next to the rack!)
18. ESP stuff is the bomb! I've now got 4 MIJ ESPs and they are definitely worth the price tag, that said I would always recommend looking for them second hand as their resale is (undeservedly) quite low and even importing from Japan can work out quite a bit cheaper. That said, I wouldn't say no to a camouflage viper. Don't worry, not going to swoop in on that one, my better half would be none too pleased!
19. And they have a sale on a few of the expansions as well until the end of the month. The reggae one is particularly nice.
20.
I have just had a few emails from toontrack about upgrading to EZ Drummer2 , I think I will have to pull the trigger in the next day or so
Do it! I upgraded myself a week back and it is such a leap forward. So intuitive, it makes EZDRUMMER 1 look a toy.
21. Heard him when I was seriously getting into bass, bought a magazine that had a lot of different tabs in it and between a Rage against the Machine song and a Blink 182 song there was a tab for 'Portrait of Tracy'. The notation was unlike anything else in that whole issue and I got the album to find out what the hell it all meant. His solo albums have always impressed me as he was acting as much as a composer as a player and for me that is where he always shone. TL;DR I prefer Portrait of Tracy to Teen Town.
22. Never met anyone in person that even remotely likes this album. Which is weird because it blows most metal albums out of the water.
23.
There are some lovely basses (and playing) on that. My favourite was the rapey-terrorist version of Ronald MacDonald at the end. Just because he/she/it is a good player who shows no restraint at all and just goes for it. Something I would do if I were less inhibited.
Mononeon seems pretty cool, he does weird duet videos like one where he plays along to a woman eating a really hot chilli. There is also a short concert video of him leading a group through a set of microtonal soul/funk which is worth watching.
