1. So, the band I'm in, Whitechapel Murders, did a music video a while ago. I got to thinking that as our line up consists of two bass guitars and drums it may be relevant to the interests of the fine members of this forum. Admittedly, we do make a pretty loud racket and it may well not be to everyone's taste but hopefully some will dig it. For the technically curious, the guy recording us only used three mics and a hand held camera to capture all this, done in 2 takes to get various cuts and stuff. Anyhoo, check it out if you fancy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWrRjuLyCPA
2.
Saw your bass so joined up, but not the best on these kind of things. Got a SR506 and SR605 to see which configuration I wanted to pursue as I'm getting back into playing again. Had a really nice Ibanez 4 string back in the day, but have now settled on the six, which I was going to customise and upgrade, but your bass might be the answer as I can't stretch to 2 or 3 grand for one I'd really like. Is it still there an where are you based.
Hi there, The bass is still available. I'm based in the Channel Islands so postage is a must but hey, I've included it in the price! This has to be one of those stupid-good basschat deals, I've tried to sell it locally with no luck so people with the internet get free postage. Now that's fair!
3. Bu-bump. This is a steal folks! Take advantage of my better nature.
4. Pics! Including images of the offending nut. Currently have it tuned DADGCF and there is no issue with regards to stability as far as I've noticed.
5. So, people that are in the know can tell you that Ibanez churned out some boutique-quality basses for a while and this is one of them. Let's take a look at the specs: Ibanez BTB1206E Prestige at a Glance: Flamed maple top, maple/mahogany back with natural finish. 5-piece BTB6 Prestige thru-neck design with rosewood fingerboard and abalone off-set dot Inlays. Bartolini custom pickups and 3-band EQ. Mono-Rail IV bridge and Neutrik locking jacks. Mahogany Body and Flamed Maple Top Mahogany is revered for its sweet sustain, smoldering tone, and an acoustical range that extends all the way from deep octaves to a singing upper register. Mahogany is also valued for its color, grain, stability and high-strength/low weight ratio. A real plus when you have to stand up and play for hours at a time. Visually, the curly pattern of flamed maple is breathtaking. Acoustically, the wavy fibers reduce the long grain stiffness and vibrate more freely - the secret to the bright, clear powerful sound. BTB5 Neck and Rosewood Fingerboard The 6- String Ibanez BTB1206E Prestige features neck-thru construction. The Ibanez BTB1206E's 35" scale offers tight tension with no flopping, superior articulation, and excellent sustain. Perfect for 5-strings and detuned 4-strings. An off-center line shape makes the upper fretwork on the Ibanez BTB1206E as easy to play as lower fretwork is on a standard neck. The Ibanez BTB1206E's Rosewood fingerboard offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain complimented by Abalone offset dot inlays. Custom Pickups and 3-Band EQ Bartolini pickups custom-designed for Ibanez complement the 35" scale of the BTB1206E Prestige bass. Bartolini pickups provide deep, warm tones while retaining treble emphasis. The Bartolini active 3-band EQ features fully independent bass, treble, and mid controls and a mini switch for quick mid-frequency adjustments of 250Hz, 500Hz, and 1kHz. 18-volt circuitry provides much greater headroom than found on standard active EQs. The Ibanez BTB1206E also features the Mono-Rail IV bridge, which offers even greater string-to-string isolation and easier string changes. High-tech features While the BTB1206E is traditional in style, it's completely up-to-date with the most sophisticated high-tech features such as Neutrik locking jacks and Ibanez Mono-Rail bridges. The Ibanez BTB1206E's new Mono-Rail IV Bridge offers even greater string-to-string isolation and easier string changes, and the BTB1206E's Neutrik locking jack means that you can get completely carried away without getting unplugged. Ibanez BTB1206E Specifications: BTB6 Prestige neck-thru 5pc. Maple/ Walnut Neck Material Flamed Maple top/ Mahogany / Maple back Body 24/Medium frets Rosewood Finger Board Mono- Rail IV bridge Bartolini Custom Neck PU Bartolini Custom Bridge PU Abalone Off-set Dot Inlay SN : Hardware Color Bartolini 3-Band (18V) Pretty impressive, huh? I really loved this thing when I got it, growled so very nicely through a Marhsall VBA400. Unfortunately I've realised that all the Claypool worship I did as a younger man is not really my bag these days so this bass doesn't get the use it deserves anymore. In the interest of fairness and full disclosure the bass is in very good condition bar the B string slot on the nut where I filed it out to accomodate a larger gauge string (.175!) so I'm going to knock £50 off what I was originally going to ask for and put this up for £375 posted Pics up later.
6.
Hi - Any pics yet? Have you been reading the Discworld novels? - "Cut me own throat Dibbler"???
Ah, thought I'd forgotten something! Pics will follow soon. I spent a lot of my formative years reading Discworld, still have an almost complete collection boxed up somewhere. Every now and then a reference will drift up from the ether, can't whack a bit of Pratchett!
7. 00funk is out the door! PMs are replied!
8. Agro is gone! Come on folks, you can't repel bargains of this magnitude!
9. Bought this as an addition to my band's rig hoping to add another dimension, unfortunately it doesn't really sit with what we do. Great synth for dance/trance or any other variation of that sort of thing. Would be pretty good for a covers band as well, I'd imagine but what do I know? Used it 3 maybe 4 times, if it's received more than 2 hours total playing time I'd be surprised. Retails at £509 (that's what I paid anyway) and you can take advantage of me by taking it off my hands for £300 posted in the UK! What a steal, I'm practically cutting my own throat here! Pics will go up later. Includes power supply, manuals and probably a whole load of bubble wrap.
10.
where are you located mate?
I'm based in Jersey, which would make collection awkward for the fine folk of Basschat, I suspect. But then what better excuse is there for a holiday than buying pedals abroad? Doesn't work with my missus bit it could for someone else! PM's replied.
11. My first sell off didn't quite work out as intended so let's have another go. Here's what's on the block: BOSS DR-3 Drum Machine - £30 It's a drum machine. It goes thump and whack. That's as far as my understanding of drum machines goes, I tend to work with PC programmes. Comes with PSU and maybe a couple of awful attempts at writing drum patterns if I can't figure out how to delete them. BOSS DF-2 Super Distotortion and Feedbacker - SOLD A distortion pedal, obviously. Contains the feedbacker feature which is the selling point of this, IMO at least. Hold down the pedal and the pedal sustains the note for as long you can keep your foot on it. It's like a vintage EHX Freeze, put your hipster friends to shame! Chunk Systems Agent 00-Funk - SOLD Super funky envelope filter with a whole host of.. ah, you all know what this does and it does it very well! Since buying it I realised that whilst I love Bootsy's sound I don't like playing with envelope filters myself. Zeibek Geminidrive - SOLD A bass overdrive, nice but not crazy distorted enough for me. Aguilar Agro - SOLD A very nice bass overdrive. Going for the same reason as the Geminidrive. Doesn't replace the HM-2 in my heart. BOSS MT-2 Metalzone - £30 Pretty good for guitar, helps you get that classic Slayer tone which is one of the better metal tones IMO. Does that scooped unpleasantness as well. Zoom 607b bass Multi FX - £30 My first foray into the wacky world of effect and I haven't looked back since! I also haven't used this pedal since so now you can buy it. Prices don't include postage and packaging but I'll give you a price for that if you like. Also I have a Boomerang+ phrase sampler if you're interested, I'm open to offers on it.
12. So, up until very recently I've been using a Marshall VBA400 into 2 Marshall MBC115 cabinets. Worked fine for a couple of years then the amp started distorting at low volumes. Sent it to a tech immediately and apparantly there were a couple of dirty points and he swapped a couple of tubes round. Worked perfectly from there and he also noticed that the ground wire had become disconnected so he re-attached that. Fast forward about a year to last week, we're practising on Wednesday in preparation for a gig on Friday night. Halfway through our practise one of the speakers blows. Most annoying but it's not the end of the world, I can run on one cabinet and stack it on top of the broken one (which was not connected) to get a reasonable on stage sound. Friday night rolls around and on the 3rd song of our set my other speaker blows! There's no way I can DI my signal as the PA used in the club could not take any more inputs (drums mic'ed but we ran our amps slightly louder than we would have with a DI but still not even pushing half the volume our amps were capable of). Sound guy suggests I plug into a spare 4x12 Line 6 cab that's on stage, it's a 4 ohm impedance and everything seems to be fine, finish off the rest of the set with an admittedly tinnier sound but nothing notable. However, come load out time when we pick up my head everyone notices a horrible electrical burning smell coming out of it. At no point was the amp turned on without being attached to a cabinet so I'm not really sure what the issue is. Now here comes the point of my ramble: any ideas what could have happened with my head? The cabinets I'm not bothered by as they were pretty cheap and nasty and I was getting round to replace them but I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get the head fixed? We've got an upcoming gig early next month and I'm looking to replace the lot and then best case scenario have the VBA400 as a backup head. Local store has an Orange Bass Terror 500 that looks pretty nice but no cabs to go with it. I know that vertically aligned speakers are more efficient and I was looking at the Ashdown VS 212, which appear to be designed to be vertically aligned and ported (very similar to the Barefaced Super 12s) and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or could vouch for their quality? Sorry for the incredibly long post, looking forward to anyone's help!
13.
Bumpy.
PM sent
14.
Ill take the agro and the gemini if you take paypal?
Paypal I certainly take. PM me your details so I can work out a proper postage quote for ya. Forgot to mention, the AGRO has a strip of velcro down one side if that makes any difference to you?
15. So, after about 18 months of trying to find a pedal that would satisfy my distortion/OD needs better than my HM2 I've got to admit that there's nothing better out there (for me). And so my loss is your gain as we have no less than 5 (!) pedals on the block: Blackstar Dist-X: £65 Really nice pedal, has a wide variety of very usable tones for the tube lover. From warm OD to all out distortion this covers all the bases. Comes with power supply (16V, no less) and box. Barely used, once in the shop and once at band practise. Aguilar AGRO: £50 Strikes me as having similar aims to the Catalinbread SFT, trying to replicate the sound of a driven Ampeg SVT. This does it a bit better IMO but am looking to get the AG500 head so it's surplus to requirements Boss Metalzone: £25 We all know what this one does. I quite like it but it's surplus to requirements. Made in Taiwan. Boss DF-2 Super Distortion & Feedbacker: £50 Quite a cool little pedal, this one. Features a so-so distortion and a "feedbacker" setting. Basically hold down the pedal whilst playing the note and it will sustain it indefinitely. Kind of like the EHX Freeze. Made in Japan, hence price. Electronix/Zeibek Gemini Drive V2: £50 Cool OD pedal with built in clean boost / blend. Has tone and gain mods. This is not pictured as it is at my practise space but can upload if necessary. Prices do not include postage, which would probably be about a fiver. I'm based in Jersey so unless you're a fellow Channel Islander then I wouldn't really be able to offer a trying session.
16. Got a second hand VBA400 with 4x10 and 1x15 as my first "pro rig". Best £550 I ever spent, love the thing. Plug a Stingray into the passive jack and I've plenty of glorious growl and in the active jack I've got a clean tone that is deep and authoritative. Not sure about the SVT killer tag myself, as the other bassist in my band uses one and we have very different tones, the SVT seems to be a touch more present in the high-mids whereas the Marshall has more low-mid and bass response, to my ears at least. It's still one hell of an amp and not that heavy in the grand scheme of things...
