1. Okay, some of you may remember that I restored this beauty of a bass: http://basschat.co.u...an-restoration/ It's still absolutely incredible, but it's far too good to be sitting as my backup. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, I know it's not the cheapest FNA you'll get, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the best. About the bass, it's 2000 model, flamed maple cap with ash body, with a tru oil (very solid!) and wax finish. Electrics are humbucker and a jazz pickup, a switch which lets you get various different configurations out of the pups, as well as a blend pot, and a 3 band active EQ. The nut was uprated to one of the brass ones, it's had a new barrel jack fitted and the gold knobs were replaced with genuine Warwick articles. The next is very smooth and very fast, and has a nice profile and feel to it. It sounds absolutely incredible. Main reasons for sale are as stated above, on top of that my car died recently and I had to buy a new one, and selling this on will cover a nice chunk of the deposit on the new one. I'm in Rochdale, cash on collection would be nice - I'm also willing to post at buyer's risk and expense. I'll only post it insured though. £1000 or serious offers... the worst I could do is say no
2.
Im trying to recall how we used to do it Bill, as I remember we used to speakon out of the power amp to the the passive tops and then xlr daisy chain to the active subs rather than a dedicated line to each (now) active speaker from the mixing desk, would that make any difference?
And there lies the problem, the subs would have not been crossing over and putting out the correct frequency. No crossover, no thumb... you might get a bang though when you blow the amp in the sub.
3. I can't think of any logical reason. I run HK Actor subs with passive EV tops, and I have no issue at all. I do run an EV system controller between the desk and the power amp for the tops, and the sub outputs are from the back of the controller - I imagine this has some influence on the crossing over. How were they wired? Do you have a sub output on the desk which is dedicated to the subs? How were you powering the tops?
4. Entirely dependent on the time of gig I'm doing / load I've got. Both cabs just have Roqsolid covers, they're a given. For gigs where I'm taking myself, the amp head has it's own little flight case where the amp and leads for it are. I've got a small holdall which carries leads, spares, iPad holder and such, and then the bass goes in a Harvest leather gig bag. I'm on the lookout for a mono bag for my pedaltrain too. If I'm going in a van / plane, everything's the same apart from the bass which goes in a Hiscox or better, and the Pedaltrain has a flightcase.
5. So I'm having a bit of a clear out of gear that's knocking around the house / in my lockup that doesn't really get the use it deserves, and this is the first victim of the cull. It's an absolutely lovely Aria Pro II SB800 lined fretless, with period (I don't think it's original) case. Setup to be as low and fast as possible, without rattles. Also got some nice flat strings on it too. I haven't actually gigged it since purchase over a year ago. It lives in it's case under the bed and it's shame it doesn't see any use. For it's age, it's in excellent condition with only a few age related marks which are hard to photograph. The worst (which I have a pic of) is a chip in the lacquer at the very top of the head. I guess the best way to describe the instrument is as 'unmolestered' The bass is located in the Manchester area, and collection is preferred. I do drive up and down the country on a regular basis though for gigs, so meeting can also me arranged, or postage at buyer's cost / risk. Price wise, I'm after £600 and will consider sensible offers. 393736EE-3995-44BF-89A1-DF80DD6CFBEC_zpsirrti3s9 by Dave Butterworth, on Flickr B7C8687A-5DA1-4757-BAF5-1F48B74679B4_zpsnbvou55d by Dave Butterworth, on Flickr DAFB2699-77E3-426D-A249-1FE27F7E2B4F_zpscnor9wuc by Dave Butterworth, on Flickr 9F79A6C7-2D01-46D4-AB6F-04813C29C708_zpsmmg55sbp by Dave Butterworth, on Flickr
6. I'm pretty sure these have been around a while now. From what I can tell, Chinese manufacture and not a patch on the original stuff. Think late Trace Elliot gear.
7. I never thought I'd see the day, but I've decided that I'm going to sell my Warwick Infinity. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it, I've just got my eyes on something else, which I'd have to shift this on to pay for. So, about the bass. Made in 2006, Ovangkol wings with an AAAA birdseye maple cap, and 7 piece through neck. The electronics are the MEC three band EQ, with single coil and humbucker, which can also be split. It also has an ebony fretboard with stainless steel frets. Condition wise - it's in very very good used condition. It has some buckle rash as you'd expect from a working bass, but there's no chips or dents etc. Tt was originally an oil finish until about November 2015, when I had it professionally clear coated by Brian Eastwood (if you haven't heard of him, look him up). It wasn't a cheap job, but it's not a cheap bass. Whilst it was in, I also had the hateful barrel jack replaced with a proper, locking jack from Neutrik. The nut was also replaced with a Just A Nut III brass. This work was all done just before I jetted off to the other side of the pond, where it endured two months of solid playing, for around three hours a night minimum, 7 days a week. It never missed a beat, I never had to get the other bass if something had gone wrong on it, and it's worked very hard ever since and has never let me down. The build quality is absolutely impeccable. It comes with it's original issue flight case and the handbook pack from new. I'm based in Rochdale, North Manchester and collection is preferred, though if buyer covers shipping, I'm willing to package up properly and ship fully insured to the full value of the instrument. NOW £2250
8. This one joined the stable today Had the head a while, the cab is new (To me) though.
9. I found the Mono was great, I had a single and then a double one... then I got to the point where I couldn't be arsed with the weight of carry two basses every where, and after time and many many gigs / sessions, it does start to look tatty. I ended up moving over to Harvest, they ain't cheap, but as far as I can tell, they're certainly one of the finest in the business. If the bass it going in the back of a van, I'll pop it in a Hiscox. Same if I'm flying too, Hiscox or flight case.
10. I'm gunna add to this! Had the Model 126 for a while (my first gigging amp was a 470!), picked up for peanuts as was untested and didn't have a mains lead on it - a week with my mate who's an amp tech / electronics genius, and he said it was all okay, absolutely safe and put a new mains lead on it! As for the cab, I've just been down to Hampshire and back today to collect this 406... getting it up the front steps to my house with my old man wasn't the most fun of tasks
11. Decided I'm gunna keep this - got a nice cab to go with it
12.
Tell him from me, next time you see him, his dad was a great darts player! ;-)
It crossed my mind first time round
13.
Was that, by any chance, Bobby Brooks? I've worked with him too. He's absolutely brilliant and it's almost freakish how similar he looks and sounds like his dad.
That's the one! When playing, you could shut your eyes and imagine it was his dad! Such a nice, down to earth guy too. I'm looking forwards to working with him again.
14. I get on very well, and have performed with Jackie Wilson's son... does that count?
15. I'm with Allianz, got around £12k worth of gear insured with them for worldwide cover and I pay £20 a month... is it really worth the risk?
16. Cheers Andy, I'm always up to negotiation if you fancy it Also weight wise, it comes in at 4.1kg.
17. Sorry for the late responses guys, it's 34" scale, I'll pop it on the scales shortly and let you know!
18. Cheers man Still my go to bass! Also treated myself to a gorgeous Harvest Leather bag to go with it!
19. Bumpity bump. I'll also look at trades, particularly interested in synths!
20. Aye, I prefer oil too, but this one had to be done for purpose and functionality over aesthetics sadly, but, it still looks absolutely lush, so win win!
21. Well, now I've finally finished up the polishing after this one was lacquered back in November, I can finally show some pics of it! 22. It's all subjective to what people like really. I'm a Warwick player mostly, and I love how mine look, but I know others hate them. There are also Warwicks I hate how they look, and people love. Things I don't like? Single cut Pointy Rickenbackers Purposely roadworn (just why?!) Some colour schemes just don't work for me. Generally speaking, I'm pretty open minded! I never liked the looks of Ps, but some grew on me, and I love my CAR P with a tort pick guard, but I know I wouldn't like it with a different guard (maybe a pearloid white)... But if I had it in a different colour scheme, chances are I wouldn't like the tort!
23. I've just purchased a Harvest Leather gig bag, safe to say, nicest gig bag I've come across! The bass doesn't move at all, and the protection is incredible! Obviously it's no hard case, but I certainly prefer it to Mono!
