1. They're expensive, but EVs are the way to go. Our more basic rig uses EV SX100s, various amps and stuff, and through that we run a 4 piece folk band and it's brilliant. When it's out doing rock gigs, add another amp and a pair of subs. Couldn't recommend EV any higher though.
2. Mine've never let me down either. When putting the strap in, sounds silly but make sure you push the button in whilst doing so. I realised that when I did that there's two clicks, not one and they never come loose.
3. It's like that with a lot of basses. I'm still looking for a bass that literally does it all, but i don't think it will ever show up, or if it did, it would cost silly money. When I'm gigging with my rock band, for a long set I'll use two basses. Fretless Corvette and it was the Wal, but it's now the active Corvette, just set differently, just because they give completely different sounds. One sounds completely different to the other. If I'm doing something like a folk gig, I'll nip out with the fretless and the 'leccy double, or for something more funky, just the fretted Corvette will do the job And they say guitarists have ocd
4. Just for a bit of extra beef if anything (or Quorn for the vegetarians ) The fretted Corvette in the same thread as the fretless I only got a few weeks ago for around £500. It started life as a passive, and then it was sent off to John East for a once over, including a passive to active conversion, and to be honest it's just the business. There's a much more dynamic sound than I get from the fretless.
5.
Damn I hate you £350 is killer although that does seem right after looking at what similar fretless Corvette's have sold for on here. So when you selling it to me
Yeah, that was including postage from Isle of Man too!! And a Warwick gig bag, although both Warwicks live in Hiscox cases when I'm out gigging. Found a slight problem where they don't fit in my new car though I'll consider selling it when I'm wealthy enough (or can tempt my dad into) to get a Wal fretless. Got a fretted one which is killer it has to be said. In all seriousness, upgrades I'd consider would be a guild, overwater or an active corvette fretless. But I'd need a lot of tempting. It is in all fairness my main gig bass so has a bond with me, as do other people and their instruments I would highly recommend you get your hands on one.
6.
Just checked out your fretless Corvette. Man that is perfect, just what I would get. Stunning. Is it active or passive?
It's passive . 1999 german model. Strings are shot, but ordered some new ones for it, sounds amazing with flats though, shot or not. It's amazing what you can pick up on ebay for £350
7. I've got a pair of Warwick Corvettes, fretted and fretless (see bass porn), and to be honest, the fretless I find is a completely different beast to the fretted one. The fretted one I find is a lot easier to get a bright, poppy tone from, and slaps really well too if needs be, where the fretless is much more civilised. Out of the fretlesses I've played, it has to be one of the best and most accessible as I use it as my daily for rehersal, gigs and studio work, and with the right strings, they sound beautiful. In short - highly recommended.
8. Cheers guys I think the grain's a bit different from other bubinga Warwicks i've come across. It really does light up under stage lights though and looks even better. I'll see if I can find any pics where I won't be infringing the photographer's copyright
9. sorry about the rotations. Photobucket strikes again
10. '99 Fretless Corvette. Bubinga with a Wenge neck and Ebony Board '00 Fretted Corvette. Swamp Ash (violin oil finish) with an Ovangkol neck and Wenge fretboard. Also got a John East preamp with EMGs '83 Wal TR1 (so i'm told!) with Shedua facings.
11. Chris Wolstenholme playing his Status S2. FIT!!!

My new baby

Cheers I saw it and it just stood out, and it plays better than it looks. I've got a Bubinga fretless too, but since Bubinga has a different grain for every bass, the distinctive grain pattern just lights up under stage lighting, and it looks absolutely immense
13. Had it just over a week now, but finally got round to cleaning up. Will get some more pics eventually, and some of the others. Got the fretless bubinga version of this too as my main bass, but came across this one with a John East preamp and EMG pickup upgrade for £500, so snapped it up
14. I find it easiest to just go at it with confidence. As you first start, it'll sound iffy as it does with most people including myself, but I kept going at it, until i was confident enough to gig at it. I'm now at the stage where since I loved my fretless so much (Warwick Corvette), it became my main bass which I use as primary bass for gigs and a lot of recording. I'm at the stage where my fretless playing is better than fretted. It'll come, don't worry about it
15. Yeah I'll try and get some. Got to get some of the Warwicks and Wal too to post up too. Got some nice plans for it though. Uprate all the hardware, new pickups, possibly a varitone or J tone, and a Roland GK3B pickup.
16. Ah nice, I had a nightmare choosing what scheme to go for with mine. Black with black plate or a tortoise shell? Sunburst with plain or tortoise shell or coloured with the same combination of plates. Ended up going for a sunburst one I'm a bit picky and like to see the wood I'm playing.... good job my main hacks are Warwicks and a Wal haha
17. Fair enough, i wasn't expecting it too. A bit of drilling won't hurt and the new bridge will cover up the old holes anyway Which finish have you got yours?
18. I've got 8 so far. There's a marine coloured Overwater Jazz that's been on ebay (may still be there) which I'd love, or something like a 5 string Warwick Corvette or Thumb. Fretless or Fretted. Oh and another Wal too.
19. Just out of interest does the Badass slot straight on? When funds permit, I'm trying to decide whether or not to go for a Badass as the one it comes with is crap. I also agree with the beautiful neck comment, and the overall balance when playing is really well. If anyone is looking for one, I got mine from purpleturtle music for around £250 brand new.
20. I've got one, spare / project bass. For the £250 it's a good working bass, but it's cheap enough to tweak, so there's money left in the budget of an american fender or similar, to fit better pickups (the ones it comes with are crap!), better machine heads and a new bridge, such as Badass II or a KSM. To cut it short, if you don't intend to do anything with it, you can do better. As a starting point for an easy project, it's pretty good for the money
21. I've got a 5 string Grind BXP. Got it a few years ago to serve as main gigging bass, give the Wal a bit of a rest. Picked up on ebay with hard case when looking for a good, solid and reliable 5. natural finish with thru neck, rosewood 'board. It's a lovely piece of kit, and I'm gunna miss it as it's now up for sale.
22. Absolutely love it. Not terribly difficult to play too which is another bonus.
23. Fair enough, that said I'm trying to get hold of a double gig bag for not too much money, so paying postage wouldn't be much of an issue. I'll see if I can find out average postage costs the M25 area is a tad far away, I'm based in Rochdale, Manchester
