1.
Sorry to kinda resurrect an old thread but an old friend of mine had an Infinity fretless 5 string bass in natural hanging on his wall. I was over his on monday and he just gave it to me. Being a 4 string fretted bassist, 5 string, unlined fretless scared the hell out of me but this bass is really easy to play. I might give the pick ups an upgrade to something like some EMG HZs or whatever then use it on some of the slow parts for my bands album. Might have to be a cheat though and add side markers for the fret lines...
Cmon now, you know the rules, pics or it didn't happen
2. Hi Acidbass, keep your eye on the Facebook page and/or the website, soon as all i's and t's are dotted and crossed we'll announce them there mate
3. Hi, I play in a Kate Bush tribute called Cloudbusting, we are based in the SW, and sadly our drummer of the last couple of years has decided that the band and its schedules are too much for him, forcing him to hand his notice in. We had a fairly rigorous run last year and ended up travelling up and down the country a lot, this year we are also in the process of booking a European tour, but refining the UK dates so hopefully the zig-zag travelling will be kept to a minimum. We will also be returning to Scotland, and across to the Emerald Isle too. We are now of course on the lookout for a fairly committed drummer to join us. A decent knowledge of Kates material would naturally be extremely useful, though not strictly an absolute necessity. We aren't a young band by any stretch of the imagination, so have enough experience to not overlook any player of any age, we are all in our 40s and in some cases early 50s to give an idea though. Any drummer joining us would have to be able to commit to future tour dates, have own kit and transport. Now, I realise this is a forum for bass players, but you never know eh? If you can or know anyone who might fit the bill please show them this ad and ask them to get in touch. many thanks, dave some links to our stuff - https://www.facebook.com/cloudbustingkatebushtribute/?ref=bookmarks https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCGUjIaiB5KW7lQWmnI_srgA http://www.cloudbustingkatebushtribute.com/
4. Yeah yeah, I know but the site needs to know if theres issues with certain browsers does it not?
5. Hi, got a new laptop after all the smoke escaped from my old one, as to be expected it runs Windoze 10 and its new browser, Edge. Finding it difficult at times to do anything on here with it, are the site admins aware of issues yet? Typical problems - write a reply and click post, a bar come up telling me somethings happening and after a while stops, yet nothing has happened. Post still visible in reply box but hasn't been posted. This can happen a few times and the n the site freezes. Click refresh and the site goes to what I can only describe as text only, formatting gone haywire. Close browser and try again and all is normal....for a while
6. From a bit earlier in his career, Suffragette City is a cracking bassline to play IMO
7. Well of course theres always the "presents to wrap" excuse. failing that, try the Monty Python "Having a rather heavy period" excuse
8. My main squeeze is a Squier Standard series PJ, has a nice thin jazzy neck
9. I seem unable to read the word 'Guiter' in my head in anything other than a Hillbilly drawl. Anyone else have this problem?
10. Thrash. Glam = Glum
11. Another band in the same boat here, must be something in the water. We'll be putting ads on milk cartons soon, so if anyone knows a decent sticksman in the SW shout up
12. Ouch! That sting's
13. This is no good. Links! we need links for gods sake! Wont somebody think of the children
14. Tony Butler is an incredible bassist IMO. Our sound guy knows him quite well, and is a thoroughly decent chap to boot I'm told
15. Depends on what the overall sound is you are looking for. I played in a very heavy one guitar band and would try and fill out the 'rhythm guitar' role as well during the leads solos as it felt empty otherwise, yet other one guitar bands ive played in had a lighter feel so I was able to just be a bassist IYKWIM
16. I'm also a fan of the Antigua finish, it does seem to vary a bit though between basses, some have more of a green hue than others, Ive noticed. This one is rather nice, but sadly for me I haven't the funds for it at the mo. Have a bump on me tho
17. "Well, twist my nipple nuts and send me to Alaska." I've restrung it (dropped all the saddles back to zero height and started again with the set up) and set it up again. It now sports a nice sensible amount of relief and a new set of Status flats and is already 100% easier to play . Im astounded first of all that I hadn't noticed the neck bend situation, and secondly by how much of a difference just the little tweaks Ive done so far at your suggestion has made. Old dogs, new tricks and all that. I haven't even touched the nut yet. But I can see that further improvements could be made there, so may still attack that at some point. For now, I'm enjoying playing this thing again and for that I thank you all
18. I probably could Kev.....lol New Status strings arrived and last night I picked up the bass to go about re-stringing. Had a quick peek along the length of the board and discovered that its got a lot more relief than i thought, how i never spotted that i dont know. Anyway, heres a thing - after Id released the tension of the strings, the neck went from excessive forward bow, right through straight and out the other side to a small degree of back bend. Ive never been shy about adjusting truss rods but Ive never seen one do that before, do you think maybe theres an issue with the neck? I gave the truss rod a tweak last night, shall revisit the bass later and see whats occuring
19. Ah yes, the ultra rare bassless head
20. Inspired by own thread (ever the narcissist, I even think that songs about me) lets hear your entry for the longest lasting gig shirt competition. My own effort is a long sleeve sweatshirt from the NOFX Soul Doubt tour, purchased fresh from their gig at the Princess Charlotte, Leicester one sweaty evening in 1992. Still hangs in my wardrobe though doesn't get worn so much these days if I'm honest. So that's 23 years. Anyone beat that? A prize of the dust that my least hardiest gig t-shirt became to the winner. Ill get a pic up when i get back
21. About to set off on the road for our last gig of the year ( well planned one anyways) We would really like to hit next year with a more professional approach and set up, and so over the winter break I want to sort out some merchandise. Ive bought loads of band t-shirts at gigs over the years, Ive been really disappointed with some of it, whereas its gone once through the wash and came out no bigger than a beer mat, whereas other stuff Ive worn to death and had years of use out of it. Oddly enough, the one thats lasted best is a NOFX sweatshirt from thier 1992 'Soul Doubt' tour, still going strong, if a little tattered. Punks not dead. Anyone got any links where we can source some decent quality gear? we are thinking the usual t-shirts, beanie hats, key rings, mugs etc TIA dave sprocketflup
