I think you need to introduce him to a claw-hammer Tim

Although I love the Shirley Bassey songs Chris Cornells You Know My Name will forever be my fave.

That’s a strange one, I wonder what the thoughts/reasons behind that were

I think this was during Covid and he was following the science….

That’s what one of my fave bands, Booze & Glory were doing last time I chatted with them, still had full backline. They said it really helped rather than the hope/expectations of relying on monitors.

I recall an experience in an old band I was in. The guitarist wrote a song and I added in my bassline for the intro which was 8ths on the root note. At the time he asked can you do this/that etc, so I tried but decided to stick to my guns on what I’d originally come up with. Said guitarist then decided to record the song (without the band, just him, for our website - this was him all over, sadly). Grudgingly (very grudgingly) he admitted to me that after trying many things out on the bass he realised that my 8ths on the root intro were what was right for the song. It was a rock song with a killer guitar riff for the intro, what he’d originally wanted was something like Flea bouncing up & down all over the place, whereas as he found all that did was get in the way of his killer guitar riff.

Not so sure about playing but I’ve certainly got better at understanding what the bass should be doing in a song, and can usually bring up about 3 different bass lines/ways of playing the song, try them and hear which is right. This maybe due to having been in originals bands since late 40s and taken a more active role in songwriting since 50ish.

Doesn’t matter imo, there are no rules that beginners have to have cheap equipment and only experienced players can have the expensive stuff.

I had a group of mates like that in the 80s, most of them came from fairly privileged backgrounds, didn’t want to work so were perpetual students, all thought that the world owed them. I often thought it would be funny to see how they would have got on in their beloved USSR.

Yup, plug in play, lose myself in the moment, whatever was getting to me goes whilst playing, sure it’s still there but def diluted after an hour or so.

Def my preferred choice, however sadly no longer an option. Bah

I’d rather see a band play the song as it was recorded. Fair play adding in flourishes, runs etc, that does make for more interesting but I’ve seen some bands where the guitarist played a solo far more intricate than what was recorded, however this detracted from the song as the solo was a major feature of it. To me that is like singing different words in a different melody. I think we’re quite fortunate, as are drummers that we can add a few bits here & there without it being noticeably changed.

Playing a 5 string with only 4 strings. Where to leave the "void"

I think in this case I’d get a new nut and have the BEAD where the EADG strings would normally be, simply as they’d be easier to reach on the neck. -
As all of my gigs are through FOH from now on I’m just using my Sansamp. If there’s a provided amp then I’ll plug into that, if not then it’s bass through the monitors. Not the preference of my ears, but of my back.

Congrats, I’ve been looking at these for a while, get lots of good write ups.

First thing I did when I moved into my place was tell my neighbours that I’m a musician, that I practice at home but never before 10am and never after 9pm, and that at any point if it’s too loud just knock and ask me to turn down, it won’t offend or annoy me. Probably helps that I practice at regular TV volumes but they’ve never asked me to stop.

Ashdown ABM 600 Evo IV Problem - Power but no sound.

Have you tried pushing the Mute switch in/out, just in case that`s sticking? If it`s not that give Ashdown a call, Dave Green is pretty good at determining faults by what`s described to him. -
Not tried to work Kid out but Back On The Chaingang is def one of my faves to play.

Adding in the same cab again and keeping all eq the same in most cases sounds like a big addition on low end in my experience, as quite simply it’s doubling the sound. It makes it twice as big so it seems that there’s more low end.

Not sure about now but my last band (I left 3 years ago) used to sell a lot of CDs. I suppose it can depend on genre and age of the associated fan base.

In my last band we charged £8, dunno if price has gone up as I left 3 years ago. We used to sell a fair bit, and even back when we started in 2014 there were bands selling theirs at £10 or more. I always thought less than a tenner, it’s that subliminal message of getting change from a note, even if it’s only £1.
