  1. Just shows what a good forum this is
  2. Agree, I love Tech21 gear but I’ve always found their stuff to sound like a Sansamp (which is a great sound imo). I adopted the same approach on the eq with my PF500, just sounded great. Similarly agree re the cabs - I think the voicing really adds in to the Ampeg sound, maybe their low end - not quite so low as many others.
  3. There`s certainly a lot "more" in those ABM EVO IV amps.
  4. Nice review @Muzz, I’ve been looking for a reasonably priced lightweight Precision with J-neck for gigs, will check these out.
  5. I had the Ampeg PF500 and thought that - aside from lack of gain - did very well. I’ve currently got the Ampeg SCR-DI pedal for home use and really like it.
  6. Nice one. I played one of these at a gig in around 89 and really liked it.
  7. Elixirs. I get about 8 months use from a set before they dull.
  8. Pretty much my approach too
  9. Nice sounds there Jack
  10. I think the main question here is why is it so important to said BL & wife for her to play the bassline to the song on her keyboard rather than other melody parts.
  11. Calling all Sires……….
  12. Yes, played very well but for a short set they could have put more “bangers” in
  13. The Darkness at IOW currently on, as good as ever
  14. That Precision looks great
  15. I found when I tried this that the 4ohm didn’t sound noticeably louder but it did sound more “alive”. It was ages ago when I did it so can’t remember which amps/cabs tho.
  16. My way of learning put it up on Youtube then try and play along. In general I also look for tabs/playalongs so that any runs or fiddly bits are there in front of me. From there I juts play along repeatedly over a period of days/weeks until I`ve got it. I find that especially when it`s a song that I`m not familiar with I have to do this as I`ve got to learn the song itself, not just how to play the bassline.
  17. That`s great @neepheid, I`d love to see that happen
  18. Tis indeed a skill that`s often overlooked. Sometimes, in my bands of yesteryear, I shudder at what people thought were good set-lists, and especially at what people thought were good encores. Sometimes even the arrangements of the setlists were questionable. Being able to work a good set whilst playing is def a skill.
  19. I`ve found that the best way to deal with this is say no, I`ll pay for goods but I`ll work out what the fees are (there are paypal calculators for this) and add it to the value I send so that you receive the full asking price. I`ll not deal with anyone who then backs away from this approach.
  20. That’s very interesting, I might well try a set of those
  21. Think Rotosounds that have had a days playing to dull down that completely new zing. Thats Elixirs out of the packet, and they stay like that for some 6+ months. If you need that really bright new zing it’s worth trying Warwick Red Label steel rounds. I used to use Rotos but needed that new zing and got fed up with having to change strings so regularly, read that Warwick Reds were good so tried them, used to get 8 to 10 weeks out of them as oppose to the 3 weeks I got from Rotos.
  22. Check out the Aguilar DB599 on Youtube, it`s not super driven but adds a nice amount of "extra" if that makes sense.
  23. Mesa Boogie?
  24. I’ve recently switched to Fender heavy tort triangles from Dunlop Ultex triangles. They give warmer slightly more traditional sound than the scooped modern sound of the Ultex.
