  1. It certainly was an easy gig playing this bass, thoroughly recommended.
  2. Most of us on the Punk/Oi scene use a Sansamp or the like in order to try and maintain our sounds. I think the main area for the need for this are bands whose bassists use gain/drive, especially 3 pieces where the bass is in some ways doing a rhythm guitar job. Luckily these preamp/DI pedals are pretty good and provided there’s not too much low end they seem to be really easy to work with - many sound men seem to be really happy that I’m using one and often mention that it makes their job easier.
  3. Agree, I want the FOH to be sending the sound of the whole band to the audience, the sound we have worked on in order to create our sound. If any one part is changed it’s doing the band, but mostly the audience that has paid to see them a dis-service.
  4. Well, used the MIM Player Precision at a gig on Sat, no wrist/hand aches or pains, just done a video with one of my US Precisions and the aches and pains are back. I’m afraid I’m gonna just have to do the sensible thing, which is gutting but the very reason that I love my US Precisions is now causing me aches & pains. Bah!
  5. It will be Liam, just did a video shoot where I used one of my US ones and my left hand/wrist is aching/painful again. So the brain-of-Lozz is gonna take charge of this one, and push the heart to the side, MIM Players it be!
  6. It always made me laugh that both Anarchy In The UK and God Save The Queen by The Sex Pistols were banned, yet they happily played Pretty Vacant, where Johnny Rotten clearly says it as vacunt.
  7. Good advice re the electrics, I’ve just had mine changed in an MIM Precision. I’m not sure whether it’s all in the mind but when doing this the sound seems more defined. Who knows but they’re certainly better, more reliable parts.

  9. Update to the update: Used the Player at the gig and it went fantastic. In the past when I’ve used basses other than my US Standards although they’ve been ok I’ve not felt entirely comfortable. Tonight I did. That for me says it all, and am very happy with this result.

  11. I’ve used an RH450/210/112 stack and it sounded great, plenty of power and a nice core tone to it.

  13. Yep, decided that’s my plan, just going to use the new MIM Player for June and see how it goes.
  14. So update time, regular strings fitted, and had the Graphtec Nut fitted, plus an upgrade of pots/Jack/cap - thanks to our very own @gary mac for that. Should add I get Gary to do all the work in my basses now, not only is he a gent and his work great but there’s a Pie & Mash Shop just down the road😃 Also added a Hipshot 3-way string tree to save the sometimes pesky A string rattle. First outing for this bass tomorrow night, will be the first time I’ll have used it with the band but sometimes you just have a sense of confidence in an instrument and I have that with this one.

  16. Rotator cuff muscles control that movement, and when playing up are very painful. As has been said see an osteopath, they really do work wonders.
  17. Yeah think I’m gonna bite the bullet and use it. Looking forward to Sat, should be a good evening/gig, great line up.
  18. As you`ve said that you`re not keen on chubber-necks, check out the new Player Precisions, much slimmer depth necks on these. I`ve just scored one, bought it primarily as my bass for flying with (so as no damage to expensive, no longer produced range of US ones that I like), but have been so knocked out with how good it is and how comfortable it is to play I`ve given myself a real question by buying this bass. As in, do I just move on my more expensive US ones and buy another Player? Gonna use it for the next month exclusively to make my decision, as gigging/rehearsing rather than using at home is the leader on my basses, that`s how I find out what suits, but whatever conclusion I come to I`d recommend taking a look at this range.
  19. Great basses, had one of these as my first proper bass - cost £450 way back in 1987 which was over a months salary for me. Worth it though, gigged it regularly for the next 4 years without backup and it never let me down.

  21. It appears that she wants to be “taken seriously”. Maybe it’s not that at all and there’s another reason, one which we may never know, but until then, well serious Vic she will remain.

Def not, I know that due to only playing gigs with FOH that a couple of 112s would be fine for my on-stage sound however I just can’t do it so have a 410 (plus a 210 for bigger gigs/stages and videos). It might seem daft, but on the originals scene many of the punters see a band using little amps and think that they aren’t a “proper” band. If you want them to take you seriously you have to play to their conceptions, no matter that we all know that a Class D amp/Barefaced Compact for us and a Fender Champ for the guitarist is all that’s actually needed.
  23. That’s my set-up, with an ABM210 EVO IV to add in for big gigs and posey video shoots. I agree, the EVO IV range in general is a step up.
  24. That’s a very good point Chris, and probably why it’s so easy to soundcheck us - the soundman probably swiftly realises there’s little point in polishing a trud.
