  1. Glad it worked out for you 😁
  2. Looking forward to this, hopefully be interesting
  3. I think it matters more in bands that are mainstream famous and doing it as a career, less so in others.
  4. Yep, my main gigging bass for my last band has a good few knocks, I bought it with some of them and have contributed to the rest. I bought a bass with knocks already there so I wouldn’t be precious about it, being on the punk/Oi scene it was fairly inevitable that bits of gear would take a knock or two.

    BDDI Harshness

As per the good advice from Tech21, take a look at the Presence control, it really adds sharpness, pulling back on that, then adding on the Treble control gives a much smoother more pleasant top end.
  6. Hang on in there Dave, I experienced similar when I bought my 2015 US Standard Precision, it had a far chunkier neck than I’d played before and my fretting band was cramping for the first two or three weeks I had it. And also similarly I put up a post on here and was advised to hang in there, so did and all was fine as I got used to it.
  7. A feeling of relief, not that I’m out of it but that because I feel so much better within myself, even after just 6 or so weeks. Which was my main reason for leaving so it shows me I made the right decision.
  8. I’ve just left my band, we set up 6 years ago and have got to the point where I could no longer continue with the punishing schedule, so a replacement was sought, and he’s doing well. I was asked yesterday how much weight we booked for my bass on flights, I replied and asked where they were heading this time - Athens. I’m glad to know that they’re still going from strength to strength, that was another reason for me leaving, to not stand in the way of the progression. It was all done amicably, though more difficult than we anticipated as we had to remove me from the business, re-register the business address and buy me out. Who said punk was about rebelling eh?
  9. I’d have ticked ‘All of the above’ as well, it depends for me on too many variables. At present the band I’m rehearsing with does Highway Star by Deep Purple, and the actual bass line is ridiculously over busy imo. I can play it fine but it’s too much so I dumb some parts down a bit. On other songs I’ll do backing vox so again will keep it pared down a tad.
  10. You could have bluffed it and asked him to listen to your playing if he ever wanted to make anything of himself.......
  11. I’ve not watched the vid, but seeing as I don’t earn my living from music I’m amateur - with the most professional outlook on it all that I can manage.
  12. Yes, please do tell!
  13. Rather bizarrely for me although I have no guilt in owning decent gear, I’m planning on keeping one cheaper bass for any possible gigs and only using my more expensive ones at home and for the rehearsing-but-not-gigging-band I’m currently working in. I may end up standing in for my old band again and if I do I’ll just take a Mex Precision along. I don’t see it as a step down as I gigged a Mex Precision with them a fair few times anyway.
  14. Same experiences with my originals band v old covers bands. Originals audience full of serious customers, top-boy football hooligans yet not a bad word (aside from the lyrics). Covers audiences usually made up of the local hard man and his friends doing their best to keep various South American cartels in business. The usual disparity between those who are hard and those that think they are.
  15. That’s a great job on that fretboard, nice bass too, congrats.
  16. Worked with one of those, he really was inspired once he started but could never remember where the solos were meant to be. After the second chorus. In every song. Not complicated.
  17. I’ve been a confirmed steel-rounds player for years, the most comfortable of those that I found was D’addario Pro Steels. Otherwise I’ve been really impressed by Ernie Ball Super Slinkies.
  18. I have with amps & cabs, gone from boutique lightweight expensive gear to regularly affordable Ashdown gear (which I prefer the sound of), but not basses. I have gigged with Squiers and MIM Fenders and in all honesty the ones I’ve used have been more than enough for my needs, but the more expensive which I have I prefer.
  19. Awesome, the combination of the Celestion Heritage & Vintage speakers is an out & out winner, serious amount of cab at this price.
  20. You’ve got it up to a great finish, congrats, when you get a good one you get a good one.
  21. I just love playing live, so whatever other circumstances there within whatever bands framework, well they generally fall away once I’m up there. Not in a gigging band at present mind.
  22. Some people just won`t say what they mean...……………...
  23. That`s my plan, get down to 2, one with flats one with rounds.
  24. Not exactly but I can see where you’re coming from. I’m doing classic rock at the moment and with keys and humbucking guitar the Precision was a bit “bulky”, all getting a bit congested. So the tighter more focused sound of the ‘Ray sprung to mind but didn’t want that real toppy high end, plus one set of flats, last me for a good while.
