The most successful band I’ve been in was an originals band which I joined at 48 and left at 54, played 50+ gigs a year, festivals, toured overseas, albums released by record companies (tho not signed to them) etc. It’s never too late, tho at 56 I now acknowledge my limits a bit better - hence why I left the above, but I’m still in an originals band. So don’t give up hope, and even if taking a few years off if you have a bass you really connect with put it in its case under the bed/on top of the wardrobe, at some point you’ll most likely get the urge to play again.

Same for me Mick, great single, the rest of their material largely passed me by.

Afraid I used a box every time Ped, they’re not gonna get broken but a box offers some protection against cosmetic damage.

Strangely I’ve found that using a thinner pick, around 0.88mm gets me a sound fairly near to finger style, anything more and the sharpness of the attack makes it evident it’s now a pick.

Re new amp or go for the modelling stuff, well if you can guarantee you’ll always be going through the PA from now on then it might be worth a try. That said you’ve got that great BF cab, so in your position I’d sort either a new amp or get that one fixed, then have a preamp/DI pedal in the chain connected to FOH at all gigs. Pedal doesn’t need to be switched on unless needed, so a Behringer BDI21 would be ideal, cheap, sound great.

I rather like Zephyr Song too

Kermits bass maybe…..

Agree, nowt wrong with supporting home grown businesses, but for me I’d be wanting something “extra” if the price was more than a comparable item manufactured elsewhere. Dr Martens spring to mind, their UK made boots are of a much better quality than the overseas made ones - with a price tag to reflect this of course.

If I were nearer I’d love this opportunity, good luck with the search -
Is Charlie stopping gigging? Or is it just non-UK gigs they’re stopping?

Will Vintage Guitars Be Worthless When Boomers Are Gone?
Lozz196 replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
I went to a local luthier for a bit of work on a bass and he had a ‘59 Les Paul in. I didn’t go anywhere near it in case of any accidents or clumsiness on my part. -
Or maybe The Popular Peoples’ Cradle of Judas….

I reckon they’ll always be desirable/collectible, whether or not it will be quite as much as currently is another matter. I started playing in Dec 1980 so have always thought about a Precision made then, but given the prices doubtful I’ll ever do anything about it. -
Whilst we never managed 100 a year, 50 was enough when all over the country & Europe, I still shudder at my 2018 work-load too. Combining 50 long-distance gigs a year with a full-time job and being in my mid 50s was just too much, something had to break, and it was me!

Handing out cctv footage is now covered by GDPR, not sure how long this has been the case though.

Looking for a strong but lightweight bass flight case
Lozz196 replied to jazzyvee's topic in Accessories and Misc
When we toured I used Hiscox cases (also used them for going in the hold on planes), they certainly protect the instruments and in comparison to the Fender hard cases seem a lot stronger as often you see Fender cases with damage, not so often with Hiscox. -
I think I could adapt to all sorts of restrictions on my left fretting hand, but put a bass on me left handed and I’d be all over the place.

Bass Player Magazine - Subscription offers
Lozz196 replied to casapete's topic in General Discussion
I’ll be cancelling my subscription then, I’m def a “wait at the door” kinda guy. It’s a real pleasure not knowing exactly when it will appear, and then when it does sitting down with a cuppa and reading all things low-end. Plus finding where @Doodhas managed to place his immortal “shut your pie-hole” line in his article is all part of the fun.
