  1. I ordered some a while back, then read the reviews, none of which were favourable so I sent them back. A great shame really as in general I find D’Addario strings very nice to play, would have been great if they lived up to the expectations but many of the reviewers said that out of the pack they just sounded like dead rounds so they were going back to their Elixirs - which is what I currently use.
  2. Dunlop Ultex 1.14mm Triangles. Give a nice modern sound and being triangular 3 picks for the price of 1, plus are nice & big so easy to grip. Only downside is the colour - not too easy to see if one falls from grasp onto a dark stage.
  3. I always put my tuner & Sansamp at the foot of the cab so they’re out of the way, so I reckon what you’re looking to do will work fine.
  4. Just got in from a gig at The Dublin Castle in Camden. Was fortunate enough to find parking right outside, so all good there. 4 bands on so a bit of gear sharing, decent sized crowd who appreciated all the bands. Load out not too bad considering it was 11:30 in a packed pub. Overall it was the first gig I’ve really relaxed into in this band - which is only the fifth one I’ve done, and with a different set list at each - just felt more at ease, which was nice.
  5. That’s awesome, love that gig, watched it many times
  6. For me once their singing is out of key on a regular basis. Someone like Elton John has been sensible enough to realise he can’t sing at the original pitch of many of his songs so has dropped the keys to suit, but many sound horrible, trying in vain to reach highs they’ll never get again unless someone hits their toes with a hammer.
  7. I don’t have it on very high settings but the Ampeg SCR-DI is excellent for adding a touch of drive that really works in the mix. I doubt in the mix that anyone would even know there was any drive there but it just smooths out the sound and helps the bass sound less clean & sterile.
  8. Went to a gig last night. Two of the three bands didn`t have bass, just relying on the low end of the guitar. One band had just drums & one guitar who used multi-effects, plenty of low-end. The other band had drums & two guitars using Kempers, again plenty of depth to the sound. They both had a better overall sound than the band with the bassist. OK it was a small gig with only vocals (I think, may have been some Kemperage from the main band) through a very small vocal PA, but the sound was much sharper/clearer. I hope this isn`t a worrying sign of things to come. Edit - I forgot to mention, they were chuggy-metal-type bands, so maybe the genre makes this easier to do without bass, can`t really imagine Motown or ska without a good bass.
  9. I have my action quite low (I use Elixir steel rounds 45-105), recently put a set of Dunlop 45-105 flats on and no changes required.
  10. At present my punky/psychobilly band, The Spacewasters will be playing at The Dublin Castle, Camden this Saturday 17 Sept, supporting Pussycat & The Dirty Johnsons.
  11. I would invite you and the seller to sit at the negotiating table to agree on a price
  12. I had the rear ported 410 - think that’s the HR? - and it sounded great with the Little Mark Tube I had.
  13. Love The Fleece, great venue to both play and watch bands.
  14. I put it to you that it was his right to own this instrument
  15. I must admit I`m liking my Jazz on the front pickup, bit of drive, sounds great.
  16. For some irrational reason I hate it when singers shout “show me those hands”. I just wish everyone would open their palms and hold their arms down by their sides. Well it would still be showing the hands if looking at it logically.
  17. I think aside from one song I play in one band I could easily use a 3 string bass and forget about the G.
  18. Just hadn`t got round to it yet, similar type of instrument mentioned, subs paid up in full
  19. I bought a fiver last year, didn`t find the switch to be as difficult as I expected but I did find that I was hardly using the low B so moved it on. I`d def get another if the music I played required it. I did find that when I went back to the 4s I found them both more enjoyable and to feel like a childs toy after the size of the neck on the 5.
  20. Yeah I have to admit that over the last couple of years I have learned to play some material that I would have previously thought was beyond me (Led Zep, Rainbow, Deep Purple type stuff).
  21. For me the talent is more telling of the person who created the lines/music in the first place. Though I don’t for one second deny the ability of these kids who can play these complex basslines, I just wish I could!
  22. If anything, given her sense of duty and to carry on regardless, I think she would have preferred events to go ahead as planned.
  23. Yeah was a kind of shakeup that affected the whole world, maybe I put everything a bit off kilter. Thinking on the content of this thread I did play both earlier and although I found the Jazz easier to play I enjoyed playing the Precision more, which to me is quite telling.
  24. I’ve used both the Boss TU2 and the TC Polytune, stuck with the TC due to it being both smaller and with what to me is a better display. But for most of my gigs I just use the TC Unitune Clip, I don’t need the Poly function so the Uni version is fine, no issues with it at all.
