  1. Yep, those freebies can be very persuasive
  2. Me too! Looking forward to seeing our pal Davey Rimmer (who attended the SE Bass Bash last year) doing his thing on bass with the Heep!
  3. There are likely two allen key locks (either side of the bridge). With both loosened, position/adjust your saddles to a comfortable height and set the intonation moving saddles forward/back accordingly. When happy, re-tighten the allen screws either side of the bridge. :) Tonepump Jr is a less dramatically eq-changing/boosting/cutting preamp than it's bigger brother - the Tonepump.
  4. Yep, I got a couple of those cases too!
  5. Used to have one of these - it was great! Moved to a modular set up with RBI/RPM but miss the simplicity of this. GLWTS!
  6. Good work! And your drummer 'swings' which is great for your groove :)
  7. Andertons in Guildford (30 min train from London Waterloo) usually have 3 or 4 Spectors in stock. Plenty on their website too so if there's any particular ones you want to try then ring them in advance and they can get them into the shop for you from their warehouse...
  8. Eddie Jackson with Queensryche on the 'Operation Mindcrim'e album - particularly the tracks 'Eyes Of A Stranger' and 'I Don't Believe In Love' - Gorgeous grinding Spector NS2/GK800RB tone! Tiran Porter with the Doobie Brothers - classic flatwound/pick thud, particularly on the albums Captain & Me, What Were Once Vices & Stampede. Guy Pratt with Toy Matinee. Ocatved Stingray goodness and groove for days!
  9. Yep. Epiphone have stolen their thunder across the board. They've made some cracking vintage Tbirds recently.... and (for guitar) some of their LP's, Explorers & sig models have been astounding quality/value for money instruments!
  10. Glad it worked out........ for now........ but he won't change. Within weeks he'll be back to his old self. There's plenty of half decent guitarists out there...... you should still get rid!
  11. Bought my first proper Spector from there in the late 80's/early 90's. A beautiful (used but mint) cherry sunburst US made pre-Kramer Spector NS2, in its case...... I had only just started work so they were good enough to take a deposit and let me pay it off over a year! The day I went in with my dad to make the final payment and take it away will always stay with me and started the big love affair of my life with Spectors. I can still remember opening the case, the look of the bass and the smell of the case/polish.... Ah, good times.... Still have the bass too!
  12. That mid period where his songs were written by BA Robertson, Alan Tarney and Terry Britten was awesome... Some fine bass playing too by Alan Tarney!
  13. I'm sure Cliff really enjoys recording/performing and that is what keeps him doing it, so good luck to him! However, there is bound to be a financial implication. Not only did he not write any of his famous material (so never ever benefited from performing rights monies) but the monies from sound recordings runs out after 50 years so his most legendary late 50's thru 60s hits will no longer garner him a performers' sound recording royalty either.
  14. Great review! But one BIG omission.... the 'Chunk' control! This one little control has such a huge effect on the overall distorted tone by adjusting the dynamics and harmonic overtones in the sound....
  15. I tried an NG2 thru headphones at a trade show and LOVED it - sounded awesome! A couple of months later I ordered one. Got it now, it looks fabulous and the fan frets are no problem.... I just can't get THE sound I want out of it through an amp though..... :( As soon as I put it down and pick up my Spector I'm back in my happy place. There's THE sound that that oozes authority, clarity and grind....! I also find the Dingwall bridge uncomfortable when playing with a pick - a little sharp... YMMV
  16. I've recently started depping for a very busy 8-piece function band who have a habit of mixing up their set constantly. For anyone depping it is a nightmare trying to keep up during the changes etc so they have all instrument tracks on backing tracks and can select which ones to keep/lose for each gig according to who's depping. I started my first gig with them, my volume turned up and playing along..... but as the gig went on I gradually turned myself down and faced the drummer (pretending to groove hard) while miming to the tracks for the rest of the set! lol! I started with best intentions, but ultimately the battle was too hard and rather than play wrong notes/miss sudden cues I just went for the easy option..... I've done a couple more since so my miming skills must be awesome and the band leader has thanked me for a gig well done each time!
  17. The Spector NS1 was designed in 1977 so a few more years than that....
  18. Welcome to the club! That's a beauty you have there - congrats!
  19. You can bet that the quality control is a tad better too
  20. Welcome to the light side!
  21. Absolutely fantastic instrument! You'll love it - especially if you like the jazz-like neck dimensions of the Doug Wimbish model.... A word of advice - the Tonepump preamp is very hot so if you feel it is putting out too much signal use the internal trimpot on the preamp box to turn it down a little :)

    Hello

Welcome Derek..... good choice with the Spectors!
  23. One off Euro factory build arranged thru distributor Korg. Stuart and the US custom shop had no hand in it by all accounts...
  24. Ah, you've gotta be quick.... they probably realised they were making no profit! lol!
