I have used my 1x15 EV Diesel exclusively (on its own) for the last 9 months or so. It is by far the most "complete" sound I have ever heard when using a single cab. Not particularly heavy too, unlike its 2x10 brother! Steve
Thank you Steve..... yep, this is a serious bit of equipment isn't it?! These EV loaded cabs really are in a completely different league to the later celestion/generic speaker loaded Mesa cabs.... Mike Brooks popped around for a jam the other day & he also commented on the range of tones this cab can reproduce...! -
Having recently bought a Mesa cab off Mr Cetera, I can confirm that he's a top bloke to deal with, and these cabs really are the absolute business.
Thanks Shaggy! I appreciate it. Yep, there's just something about these older EV loaded cabs.... -

Sadly, I've decided to move on this great cab as it's really not getting used outside my music room and it deserves to be played LOUD & PROUD! This cab should need little introduction.... but I will anyway! What we have here is a classic Mesa/Boogie Diesel 1x15 Cab with bass port & casters. It is 400W at 8ohms and is loaded with the fantastic & highly desirable 15" EV speaker. The tone of this really is quite something.... it has all the thunderous low end you would expect of a 1x15 but being the legendary 'EV' it gives a focussed, tight projection more commonly expected of 10's or 12's! This would make a perfect compliment to another 8ohm cab (2x10, 1x15 etc) but is also superb in its own right as a stand alone cab. I've also heard it in use with a double bass and the sound was a revelation. It's pretty well used and has some scuffs but they are only surface. The edges are reinforced/rubber covered and the cab itself is in perfect working order. I'll try & get a better picture up shortly.... but here's one for starters.....

Warwick Thumb for sale - Back up for sale due to non-payer
It's still advertised at £600? Put it on hold or withdraw it maybe if you have a buyer lined up with £750? I can definitely relate to the financial woes of being a student but as soon as you had your buyer lined up at £750 you should have put the bass on hold and told the guy on the phone that it’s sold pending payment and it’s a wasted trip. That’s my 2 pence worth anyways.
+1. You should mark this as 'sale pending' and withdraw the £600 price you have advertised. -
Spector, for the Pantera, Metallica cutting pick tone. Dave Ellefson's also used one with Megadeth in the studio. although you can get a usable tone from most basses if you put steel roundwounds on and boost the high mids.
+1 to Spector for any of the classic early 80's - late 90's rock bass tones.... Eddie Jackson (Queensrche) Rachel Bolan (Skid Row) Gene Simmons (KISS) Jason Newstead (Metallica) Dave Ellefson (Megadeth) Flea (RHCP) Kip Winger (Alice Cooper/Winger) Pat Badger (Extreme) Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) Mike Starr (Alice In Chains) Rex (Pantera) Geezer Butler (Ozzy/Black Sabbath) Phil Soussan (Ozzy) Ian Hill (Judas Priest) Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith) Bruce Turgon (Foreigner) Melvin Brannon III (Dan Reed Network) Jamie Stuart (The Cult) Chuck Wright (Quiet Riot/House Of Lords etc) Jeff Pilson (Dokken) Francis Bucholz (Scorpions) Ricky Phillips (Bad English) Kasim Sulton (Utopia/Meat Loaf) etc etc
This is a relatively common question and from my own experience and what I've read from other people, soundwise, pretty much anything goes. Some metal types use Precisions, loads of metal types use Spectors or Warwicks, others go for Ibanez, some Music Man. Metal is such a broad genre, that it totally depends on what sound you're going for.
I agree.... for more trad stuff I'd suggest a Precision, for a more grinding/growling tone I'd suggest a Spector and for a more toppy/clicky Nu-Metal tone I'd suggest a Warwick....
Being an owner of both designs yourself, do you find significant differences between them? I'm not doubting or querying your guidance, it's just that I had a Spector Euro a couple of years back and the neck dimensions weren't massively different to a few of my Warwicks. Main difference I found was that the early Warwicks had a smoothed/rolled fingerboard edge and the Spector was quite squared off (similar to some of the recent Warwicks that I've tried). <edit> Ooops sorry I genuinely thought you had a Wick in your collection at the minute
Actually I've always fancied a late 80's/early 90's Streamer with EMGs..... I played one once and it was lovely.... Tbh, Spectors seem to have had a variety of neck profiles over the years. They went through a period a few years back when their necks were rounder/thicker (more like Warwicks) but they have slimmed down again now.....

Superb story...... Nice looking lady too!
I quite like the fat Warwick necks, but... Have you thought about a Spector - similar style to the Warwicks, but very different necks. I'm sure I read somewhere that Warwick pinched the streamer design off of Spector, but I may have made that up.
True, if you liked the Warwick but not the neck then you need to check a Spector Euro/LX Warwick didn't pinch the design, they licensed it for a short time from Stuart Spector/Ned Steinberger then just stopped paying.....! I believe a settlement was reached some years ago for their illegal use of the design...
