1. Anything with active electronics. To my ears, very few sound any better than a good passive bass. So I'd rather keep things simple and avoid the need for batteries.
2. Hi from down the road in Tunbridge Wells! Put up a post in the "gigs" forum when you're playing. There's not enough live music round here.
3.
Nice, sweaty gig on Saturday at the Grey Horse in Kingston. Clauster's band (Run Leia Run) were good fun. Never have guessed it was their first gig in 9 months. Not a bad crowd at all and we played well and with vigour. Lovely warm up for our forthcoming big gigs. My suit needs a clean....
Great gig for us too. Thanks for letting me use your TC rig. GAS central right now, not helped by the singer repeatedly telling me it sounded fantastic
4. On the basis of having been a BCer for a few years now: surely what the bass-playing public really wants is a multi-volume work on the relative merits and overall greatness of Flea and Mark King.
5. After yesterday's rehearsal, you need a new category - noisy, crap and better suited to a pursuit far removed from music
6. I had the Exar TaBASSco for a short while. I found the Exar's footswitch a bit odd - it needed a very deliberate press to get it to switch. After one rehearsal, it went back as I got fed up with it not switching when I wanted it to. It might have been specific to my pedal - my guitarist uses a few Jaques pedals that are similar and has no problems.
7. Fatboyslimfast bought my Ashdown combo. Struck the deal at the weekend, he'd transferred the money by Monday morning and was great with communication throughout. Highly recommended to anyone considering doing a deal with him.
8. I recently found out that Ray Mears went to my infant school. Musically related, half of the band Suede - Matt Osman (bass) sat at the desk in front of mine at Junior School, then Brett Anderson (vocals and now solo artist) I knew at 6th Form College.
9. Have you got the amp against a wall or in a corner? If so, trying pulling it out into the room.
10.
The ACME Low B2 112 has a neo driver, and available in both 4 and 8 ohms. That is why I posted it up earlier
Lower in sensitivity than the Midget though I believe. So the 3db advantage gained from having a 4 ohm driver will be couter-balanced by the loss in sensitivity.
11. Hi, Once again it's time to play find the drummer Run Leia Run is an originals band. Style wise it's rock/punk/ska. Follow the link in my sig and it'll take you to some tunes. Four piece line up (guitarist, bass, drums and singer). We don't discriminate on age or gender, but we're all late 30s chaps. Tend to gig in Kent, Sussex and London. Rehearsal and writing takes place in Lamberhurst (west Kent). The current incumbent of the drum stool has gone back to college and is finding it impossible to get to rehearsal/writing sessions. Being originals, financial reward is based entirely on how many people we get through doors to see us, so if you want to make money out of music it helps if you can also help with a bit of promotion. If interested, PM me on here please. Thanks for reading, Nic
12. If I read right - You've taken the speaker connection out of the Ashdown "head" part of your combo, and plugged that connector into the speaker out on your Hartke. Yes, this should work just fine.
13. My first proper bass was one of the Hondo copies, loved it. Eventually passed it on to my brother when he started learning bass.
14. Ashdown MAG heads and cabs can be snapped up on here for less than half your budget. With the rest look at Squier Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe ranges, or if your tastes lie with something more modern Ibanez or Yamaha.
15. My first two basses came from Bells.
16.
It's a very nice bass and I'm not a P fan.
I'm calling first dibs then
17.
There may have been a Beta 10b (16 ohm) at some point, but it's not currently offered.
I hadn't realised that Eminence don't offer them anymore. They can still be found over here.
18.
Good question. None of the drivers recommended for it are available in 4 or 16 ohm.
According to my plans, the Beta10 was a recommended driver and that has a 16 ohm variant.
19. It's been a good while since I've used mine through PA, but I'm pretty certain the master volume doesn't affect the DI level. I have memories of having to signal our sound guy to mute me at the desk when re-tuning between a couple of songs in our set.
20. IME Fenders vary a lot in weight. If you've been put off by the weight of one, try and find a shop with a large stock of Precisions and keep trying them until you find one that feels comfortable. I don't know if you've tried the SG yet, but if you can, try one with a strap standing up. I've heard they're a bit neck heavy, which over an evening can be more tiring on your shoulder than a heavy bass that balances well.
21. Good stuff, a mate is just finishing off his BYOC Large Beaver - he's really enjoyed it and it sounds great
22. have a look at the BYOC Forum, bass section (I think it's the last section in the list of forum). The Optical is the recommended one there and I think the same conclusion was reached on Ovnilabs too.
23. Great choice WoT! SiverFoxNik's RB V's are among the best sounding basses I've heard and imagine the IV must be similar
