1. Holy %**t, my first bass was one of those! If I had any spare cash, I'd have a haggle with you
2. 30 years 3 months 2 weeks ago I started playing bass, although I did take a 9 year break to concentrate on guitar So many high points: Some great and memorable gigs, met and played with some great folks. The best points are those when the whole band plays really well and it all just feels effortless. Reminds me of what I love about music. Lowest point: Music O-level practical. I'd been playing the school's Fender P for three years regularly and I'd been practising my prepared pieces on it for weeks. Walk into the music room - the head of music had part-ex'ed the Precision for a Thunder 1A. Neck felt wrong, active electronics sounded wrong to me and I just went to pieces. Muddled my way through the prepared pieces but the sight reading was hopeless.
3. For a touch over £100, I'd recommend an Ashdown Electric Blue. You see them in the FS section here for about £120.00 Like you I often DI straight to PA or use provided backline. The Ashdown has been great for rehearsals, jams and smallish gigs though. Had it 5 years with no problems.
4. Another one that was apparently 8 weeks (I only knew for two days though) Another happy customer and saving for a Midget to go with my Compact
5. I'm pretty sure that is the amp section of a combo in a home made sleeve. Potentially nothing wrong with that. But if you're new to amps, walk away.
6.
But surely the same wattage going into 2 cabs will be louder than 1 due to moving more air? (put in a very simple way!)
Normally, yes. But thanks to the impedance selecter on the OTB you can get fill power at either 4ohm or 8 ohm loads. 500W into the efficient Barefaced cab = Loud 500W split between the Barefaced (now receiving 250W) and the not so efficient isobaric cab (also receiving 250w) = not so loud.

obbm's feedback

Enquired about a Speakon to jack speaker cable on Wednesday, Paypal'ed on Thursday, Arrived on Friday (recorded delivery and I wasn't in - my fault as I know it was coming), collected from sorting office Saturday. Top quality, great service, very competitive price. I'll probably carry on making my own signal leads (I enjoy it, and getting it wrong isn't disasterous - just go back, find the dodgy joint/short and fix) but for speaker leads (too chunky for my puny iron - I did try, and getting it wrong could well be disasterous for the amp) OBBM is the man for me.
8. I've been making my own for years (van damme/neutrik). Having (at long last) gone from a combo to a head and cab I needed a speaker cable. CHecked out costs of parts - decided to try OBBM instead. Emailed Wednesday, Paypal Thursday morning. Delivered Friday (recorded delivery and I wasn't in). Collected from sorting office yesterday. Top quality, great price and service. Converted.
9.
Thats minimum so 16ohms will be fine just quieter, 2ohms melts stuff flames and shiz! Not so good.
Only with SS heads. With a valve head, unless it has 16 Ohm tap, it will do damage.
10. I've got the Pitchblack, but if I was shopping today the Polytune would also be on the list as would the Turbo Tuner. When I was looking at tuners, I was told the DI on the Strobostomp wasn't terribly good. Nic
11. Just found out that I'm not in Notts, actually just over the border in Stanley, Derbyshire. Will PM you both with more details.
12. I should have mine up in Notts in a few weekends time for the weekend if you don't get the chance to try one before then
13. Morrisey's bassist had the coolest. Was it a Hayman?
14. I was going to suggest an ART DI box. The DI of choice in my favourite studio. Not bass specific, no amp modelling/sim, just a good quality DI. ART Active DI
15. That is beautiful. What's the story with the thing where the strap button would normally be?
16. love the colour combination, great choice
17. I hope so Clarky - the head only arrived today so not had a chance to try it out at anything above minimum volume. Tomorrow night's its first outing at a rehearsal. Can't wait
18. Thanks, it's a great bass. Bought in a rush because I found myself unexpectedly bass-less a few days before a gig, but it sounds great and looks good too.
19. At last I have a rig to be proud of and I've finally worked out how to use the wife's camera - From left to right we have - Ibanez RB 950 circa 1984 EHX Bass Blogger Boss CS-3 (soon to be modded with Monte Allum's Opto+ kit) Modded EHX Bass Balls Korg Pitchblack And brining up the rear are my new Barefaced Compact and Hartke LH500 I'm very happy, but still want a nice P-bass. It's the one sound the Ibanez won't make (and they're also the epitome of Coooooool).
20. Compression with dirt coming an increasingly close second
21. Just ordered a Hartke LH500 to go with the BF Compact. Now I've just got to wait until Tuesday to try both out Must go and buy a speaker lead now.
22. I think I've only ever owned 1 bass at a time and never had more than two in my possession. Nothing against having a collection, just never needed more than one at a time. Do have two guitars though one is a twelve string.
