  1. I have one of these for my Guild Starfire short scale. It's very well made and a good bit of kit.
  2. I use Ernie Ball Slinkys, Gareth. I find them really quiet, especially after a couple of hours of play.
  3. I recently bought a Fender Kingman for the same reason as the OP but also to use in an acoustic band as an alternative to my DB. It does need to be mic'd as you'd expect for gigging but for a practice/jam it's fine. The jazz bass neck is a revelation on an acoustic bass and I forgot what a unique sound an acoustic bass with bronze strings has too. I had one of the Washburn AB10's before which was great, but the Kingman is much better for me.
  4. Wow. That sounds like a clue on 321 🤔 I'd definitely be going home with Dusty Bin.
  5. If it's Will from Bass Bros for sure I'd 100% trust him. He's sold a number of basses from me (as well as sold me a number of them) and he's a decent genuine guy.
  6. "As new", apart from a great big ding on the body. "upgraded"- I've changed the pickups, bridge, tuning pegs and dicked about with it so much that nobody else will ever want it. "from a pet-free home". It's not a carpet, it's a bass and maybe actually you'd be a bit happier and fulfilled in life if you had a furry friend anyway.
  7. S'manth sold me her Roland Cube which was delivered incredibly quickly and was exactly as described. Thanks again S'manth. Highly recommended
  8. Just being silly. The fact your head was hidden by the PA Speaker made me think of the blacked out faces on old army photos 😄
  9. Lovely basses. Are you in the SAS by any chance?
  10. The Guitar Guitar isn't the biggest store but the guys are helpful and friendly.
  11. I think these AV's are a newer iteration of the old AV basses. The ones I've seen I've been really impressed with and they seem to be pretty faithful reproductions in terms of fit and finish. The AO's were slightly different in that they weren't year-specific (I.e. not 62 or 64, but 60's) so they were a bit of a mash up of all years and any variations. Similarly they did away with period correct neck radius and a few other things. I liked them, but they weren't really vintage reissues as such.
  12. I always think playing your hit(s) must feel a bit like this:
  13. The other alternative is earlpilanz on EBay. He's made some pickguards for me in the past. He asks for the original to be sent to use as a template but he's very quick and the quality is excellent. It might be worth dropping him a line.
  14. If you do, there's a good template for fitting the bridge cover someone on Talkbass posted. It saved me some trepidation when I fitted the cover on my P Bass!
  15. They're also known as The Boner due to the well, long horn. I recall they were a late 80's- early 90's model.
  16. Great stuff I always love seeing your builds
  17. This was a bit of a spur of the moment decision but after seeing it on Thomann's B-Stock page at a very good price I thought I'd chance my arm. I've been looking for a lightweight bass for a while now due to back and hip problems as a result of lots of rugby and recently tried (and returned) an Epiphone Newport. I had bid on a Pelham Blue Jack Casady recently that sadly was withdrawn but was unsure of how the body shape would sit on me with a 34" scale neck. Anyway, I had one of these Guilds before and foolishly decided to move it on, so when one came up in Pelham Blue and weighing in at under 7lbs I decided to go for it. It arrived today and after a bit of minor tweaking (mainly pickup height) I strung it with a set of TI Flats which "just" about work from a length perspective (slightly too long on the G) it's ready to go and sounds great. For a B-Stock instrument I can't see a mark on it. After a break from short scales I'm really pleased the way this one hangs on a strap.
  18. £2,999 for a Stingray. I love Stingrays but that is just nuts...
  19. Amen Brother from another Mother. I'd definitely add Knockin On Heaven's Door to my list of "only if you pay me danger money" songs.
  20. Been there seen it and done it, sometimes without even trying the bass out in its original spec. Goodness knows why, I guess it's a case of idle hands and good old peer pressure. It's something I stopped doing a good few years ago and certainly don't feel any of my basses are any worse off because I haven't dicked about with them. Whatever floats your boat though but must admit, if a bass is advertised with countless mods I generally leave them well alone (especially if the original parts aren't included).
  21. To be honest I hadn't noticed that on the Sandberg, but then I'm not that observant and only found out last week my wife didn't work at Woolworths anymore.
