1. Metallica have made some great records, im not sure large festivals are the way to introduce people to your stuff, they never do a band justice (for all )imo. I always enjoy a band more if I know how the song goes to fill in the blanks of a poor mix when watching tv or at the venue regarding massive shows like that. Metallica metallica is brilliant from start to finish both musically and production wise, ok you might not like them Dingus but so many proper die hard music fans cant be wrong
2. I didnt know about the thekla, I had a very heavy night on there before the last refurb!
3. Dolly Parton's set "well practiced" is probably the best place to leave the whole miming topic
4. 5.
maybe music is different from Art but if you right something don't you own it regardless of what you do (or part of it in a band). Proving it is another thing - but say you do something with these songs and some old bass player comes out the woodwork and can prove they wrote say the melody to the song... well then it's his melody. There's a load of stuff of my old band on iTunes/Spotify which I had to sit down with them and discuss who wrote what of everything - not a fun process!
Without some form of copyright how can he prove it though, if that were the case why would anyone bother to copyright it in the first place? Some form of demo with a printed label giving the band member names etc, dated and kept in an unopened envelope with a royal mail stamp would be absolute minimum required for anyone to even try and make a financial claim afaik. I have some stuff that is proper copyrighted under licence via the company that pressed the discs, it was free for a non commercial act at the time up to a maximum number of discs. That was before the days of youtube and mp3 players etc so I have no idea how you can protect stuff now, nor do the massive bands that are trying to stop it.
6. The Louisiana used to be the best place for that sort of gig http://www.thelouisiana.net/ There is also the old duke but its more Jazz based stuff, bit of a hippy dippy hang out, I love it! http://www.theoldduke.co.uk/ The Thekla is really cool too, if you dont know it it is an old cargo ship in the dock that is an indie club/live venue http://www.theklabristol.co.uk/
7. I would say if nothing was kept copyrighted at the time you could do what you want with them, thats why you want to do it and copyright them now I presume just in case they hit the big time? If so you have kind of answered your own question I think? If the singer still speaks to the previous members then maybe they should discuss his new band recording their songs but legally I cant see you have an issue if you recorded them and made fame and fortune especially if the singer wrote the lyrics rather than me just nicking your ideas and releasing it for example? It might be worth giving them a thank you mention in the sleeve but then does that leave the door a jar at a later date I dont know?
8. I'm fairly competent at setting up basses but I have hit a wall with mine so any improvement will only come from a professional. I have got my e string down to about 10mm and the bridge is well centred other than that it needs pro work. Unlike electric bass you might have a slope on the end of the finger board too so advice can only be taken so far compared to setting up a P bass for example, more knowledgeable folk here can explain the finger board curve.
9.
lol Pete. I did play a fretless on a couple of tracks.. not the same I know.. I guess I could of played up the intonation a bit more
Lol
10. I can certainly make a little A4 page to put next to it so you all know exactly what you are trying out, no problem and as a total novice looking to try other basses and string types/tension it really would help rather than people constantly having to repeat it to everyone, good call
11. Get a double bass, you can spend at least 3 full days just trying to get a useable sound without terrible feedback
12. I don't know about the vocals but Jeez do any of you think she was playing that fiddle? Come on then digital camera experts why was the guy on the right playing in time when hers wasn't, my bow technique on DB is terrible but I can tell you that's not how you bow a fiddle! No mic, no wireless Kit, no piezo installed...
13. Cool another convert! Get into Geoffs lessons discover double bass.com. That should keep you busy along with all the experts on here, I couldn't of got where I am without them, which isn't very far to be fair but it sure is fun!
14.
15.
i also use in ears, sounds like my Ashdown rig coming through them.
Are they still under warranty? Lol
16. I always miss the fireworks
17. I think they are the better of the budget stuff (crazy aint it £1000 for a budget bass lol) sound post pushing out the back does not sound good though?! I have got the setup the best I feel I can without taking the nut and bridge feet etc beyond the point a pro could shape whats left so I will get a pro job soon, to be fair to gedo they can only do a general setup, they dont know what style of music a player will be using it for or their personal preference, amplified or arco acoustic only etc. I cant fault it as such, no rattles or funny shaped finger board etc
18. I was trying to work out what she was playing and what she wasn't?
19. Just watching the 1975 at glastonbury, two ashdown rigs with 8x10 cabs......molded in ear monitors
20. Status Edit for tablet went crazy and didnt post for two hours!
21. You can even buy fake serial numbers on ebay if you really need the other logo on the front?
22.
I would like one WITH a Fender decal... so there.
http://www.croxguitars.com/decalbass.htm knock yerself out......
23.
Leaning your bass against a wall is no more likely to cause damage to it than it would a baseball bat. It's just a lunk of wood What's more likely to have caused change to the set up is humidity. Especially if you haven't played it in months: winter to summer. Just give it a quick set up (adjust the bridge saddles, tweak the truss rod, etc) and it should be fine.
Dont touch the saddles!!! Saddle heights dont change between the seasons, all you want to do is get the neck back where it was when it played well before by letting a little relief back into the neck. Unless you are doing a full set up, changing string type/gauge or adjusting to your own taste then the truss rod is all you should ever need to adjust as the seasons/climate changes
24. Thats a proper Flea bridge too rather than what people often call a Flea bridge being the ones with the mute bridge without the mutes, yours is a proper offset to the right with the strings running inline affair, very nice and quite rare
