1.
My 13yo ABM 300 has just popped it's valve stage, but still sounds awesome and ashdown are happy to fix it for me. If you think about how often cars are repaired, I'd say 13years without trouble makes them pretty reliable.
That's good for you but mine wasn't, Ashdown were not interested in any repairs or servicing when I emailed them, this was around 2008 or 2009 though. I switched to Genz and never looked back, I also wanted to go for something lighter if I had to buy a new amp which I did due to the intermittent fault on the Ashdown and as I had plenty of gigs coming up, I looked at the super fly head but lets not go there! Lol
 2.
As much as I hate limiters, I have to deal with them quite regularly. My band loves to play at a decent volume, but when faced with one of these we find the limit of the limiter in soundcheck, back off a tad, and here's the clever bit - we stay at that volume for the rest of the gig! I admit, playing quietly sucks, but we are proof that it can be done. No resetting the limiter and looking stupid. I know plenty of so called 'pros' who just can't play quietly when neccessary. They drive me nuts. It isn't hard, and the band can actually swing at lower volume levels too, and less feedback issues to boot.
I don't like an overly loud band so I agree but like others I've encountered them where you couldn't even have an acoustic jam and just use a pa for vocals, the quietest function band wouldn't be able to avoid tripping in those venues. Our drummer has an electric Kit and they are king really for sound limiter gigs, set the snare volume and tone to stay in the amber and match the band to that.
 3.
My 13 year old ABM300 has never once given me any trouble , not even a crackly pot or anything. Has always sounded great during the many many gigs and rehearsals that I and friends who I've lent it to have done with it. I think that says something.
Mine was sold as spares or repairs on ebay at around 6 years old.
 4.
I think in reality our favourite players would sound like themselves on any decent gear within reason. I have had a selection of basses and amps, I always sound like me! (Terrible mostly). How much of massive bass rig can a mic pick up and pass on to a totally different amp and pa speaker arrangement eq'd by someone else at the other end of a stadium in some cases, I'll bet there was a di combined with the mic even just for emergency drummer knocked the basd mic stand over moments! 5. Looks like an old fashioned can opener! Handy for opening a can of worms then....lol
 6.
Ask if you can bypass it and just have them keep an eye on it to see if you should turn down or not.
They are usually fitted due to complaints to the council from local residents, the council will do spot checks, if found bypassed (you cant bypass them, only plug into a kitchen socket or similar) the venue loses its entertainment licence on the spot.
 7.
That's the opposite of my experience. That's also the opposite of my experience.
I have found the evo to be more wooly and the mag tighter and more suited to active basses than my old evo was, ive had some very nice sounds from a big mag combo at a jam night, id still di clean to the desk at a gig large enough though so no one is hearing my amp anyway.
 8.
When I saw From The Jam earlier this year, Bruce Foxton was using his Ashdown stack (410 + 810) and it sounded amazing. I need light gear so my Markbass set-up is ideal, but if I were looking for a set-up now, after hearing Bruce I`d be checking Ashdown gear out - and if it were light enough, no doubt buying it as well.
Were you on the stage? If not did they have an ashdown pa?
 9. Awful devices, certain frequencys upset them more than others, snare drum being number one but I have seen them trip at volumes levels not much more than you would have the wireless on in an old folks home!
 10. No he isnt they are mediocre pretenders remember
 11. Ive said it before even as an early uk built evo owner, I think the mag range sounds better.
 12. It is all stage dressing, proper pa wedges will always be better than a bass amp on a big stage, other than flea who puts a 4x10 on the guitarists side of the stage I cant think of any big stage where the bass amp is spread out like that, do you think you would clearly hear an ampeg 6x10 on the far left of the stage at download if you were a guitarist on the right hand side with a drum kit in the middle? Those big rigs are more for us pub giggers to think they must be good as x uses them than they are for backline imo. Im considering taking just my 300 watt genz head and use the di from now on, whatever a roadie wants to put behind me is up to them
 13. If someone like Pino owns a bass like that but never really made much use of it to me it almost confirms it not to be a great bass, collectable novelty because he can, I probably would have one of everything if I could too. To me the only basses worth extra over any other of the same model needs to be one a player is known for or used on a famous record and the actual one not a copy or signature, the stingray used on another one bites the dust would hold more value than one of john deacons many P basses being rarer and used on a worldwide hit for example, an identicle stingray owned by Sting that he has never been seen playing live with or used on a police album for example id pay 0 pence more for than from a seller on basschat.
 14. It's hardly raining on the parade, it's not like you have evidence that they were not playing their instruments or anything, you don't like them we get it.
 15. Yep I agree booboo, the drum mix is brilliant just listen to how sweetly the hi hats cut through without being ear piercing. Everyone sitting just right in the mix and what they chose to play, Deacon is a master at placing a tasteful run just in that one gap in the song without sounded like a failed lead guitarist!
 16. Even I have to look close to realise the Ray is a five string, which I like, very versatile look for a fiver imo.
 17. Even the guitar amp is wired inline rather than micd up which is why it is side on, I put it right after for visual effect! Lol
 18. The log burner is great, feedback you might say? Electric double bass and electric drum kit so we can go as loud as we like! There is a 1600 watt peavey power amp and a pair of passive Mackie tops for front of house out of shot.
 19. Crazy how cheap our gear looks under the ghetto tent, there is a few quids worth there, the Jobeky drum kit and control modules alone are worth a fortune yet it all looks like crap from a jumble sale because of the shack, my lighting rig never left the van....
 20.
You need to make an album called 'Sell Out'...
Ha very good
 21.
PS - Does that say Sue Ryder? Basschat have already raised a lot for them by buying ALL of their old bass stock.
It was the first thing I thought, well second after wtf! Actually third because second was "what the f*** is that horse doing roaming around!".
Great charity Sue Ryder, I do stuff for them in my spare time. Well done for trying.
yep im not saying the charity is bad and the organisers were trying their best too.
Ive done some charity gigs which have been fantastic fun, and some that have not, but arguably there was a decent amount of money raised, so I suppose thats fine, as I thats why we agree to help So I guess the question is, did they raise a decent amount to make your effort worthwhile, by the look of the tarpaulins, I think I know the answer, but I hope I'm wrong?
£250 I think.
 22.
I must admit that looks hilarious... I now worry about the charity gig we're doing on 4th July....
Is there a marquee provided? Lol
 23.
Is it my eyes or does the front of the kick drum say 'Judas Trio'? Divine retribution? Nice basses by the way!
That is our tongue in cheek bit of fun as the band is made of judases (judi judass judas'?) Lol
