1. Lovely! I didnt know they could have a pressed solid top, it looks very similar to my romanian Gedo other than mine has a curved back, how can I tell if its pressed rather than carved? Ta
2. If its a barefaced check the feet and handles are still there! Lol only joking See how the owner looks after his/her gear as that will be a good indicator of how they will have treated the cab when in use regarding overloading it or throwing it about. Chromatic scales holding the notes are best imo for finding that frequency that gets anything loose to rattle, dont be surprised to find a note that makes something in the sellers house rattle, my bedroom doesnt like A#
3. Anything with two 12 inches in it is going to be popular on the internet!
4. Yep that all looks cool, nice.
5.
That has just given me an idea for a screenplay. It's about 2 bass players who take a bit of a shine to each other...........................
Haha, it would have to be big red X and someone who only likes fenders that turns him in the end!
6. Id say there were a lot less 5 string basses in the lime light when the SR5 came out, EBMM were already playing off the Stingray name with a bass that bears little or no resemblance to a Stingray which people will have identified by the single underslung tuner, still a first port of call when trying to spot a bass in the shadows of a dimly lit stage for me is that single tuner glinting. The SR5 should have been called a Silouhette bass as its bassically a bass version of the EBMM guitar and with 2 tuners underneath but the Ray connection would have been lost other than the humbucker visually. Which does the blue SR5 resemble most the Silo guitar or the Stingray classic? 7. Strings and things are cheaper than the replica ones too!
8. Can I have one eye put in on it's side then?
9. I don't like the way they look stacked if they are not all the same width, height I can cope with .
10.
Lol... I've now got a Contour 500 210 combo wining it's way to me from Mr Stickley. £319. Crazy.
Be rude not to, I have used the 1x15 version, it was really good!
11.
Mines older but it's tolex
Looks like mine is a proper vintage version then, it's getting more collectable as the thread goes on
12.
I'm thinking of the same exact thing. I want to sell my 3 basses to get a 55-94.
I think it will happen one day although I will keep my black SR5, its worth the least but is my favourite bass so it can be the spare to my future 55-94
13. I have noticed that the resident experts on here are quick to tell everyone not to use mismatched cabs even though a 1x15 and 2x10 was a very popular rig for a long time yet the most popular mismatched rig I see now is normally some kind of Barefaced mountain of various cabs piled up with some on their side etc?
14.
The Stingray Classic is a FANTASTIC bass.
Yep and this one is almost half the new price! Wicked
15.
See? Rounded...

See? Rounded...
Cool , I like it, that said I like the look of them all
16. Food is always good, waitress thing just a bit weird. l8rs
17. I still prefer rat fur even if both were in mint condition, although it wouldnt stop me buying a cab either way.
18. I wish I had filmed you and Greg at your gig so as to let people here understand why you are all wireless or maybe just clueless PAT testing and food later then, see you in a bit
19. If I ran henry hoover over my 5 year old cab it would look like new, once you rip tolex or the Barefaced finish (maplins pvc ) thats it ripped forever or stuck down with glue etc. Give me rat fur anyday, it must help damp the cabs too the same as people say about PA cabs?
20. I am warming to the s version then
21.
Dan Berglund - for making the complex appear simple...immaculate timing, versatility, and just the vibe he brings to the music ! Not found a single defining clip but love his work with EST
The pizz tone on this to me is the holy grail that electric bass players want but will never get, I dare say getting it on DB is probably a lot harder than he is making it look!
22. Totally different drivers afaik so they may sound totally different to each other, rat fur on the outside which I prefer too.
23.
As you can see from my sig I own a number of basses from various manufacturers, so am in a position to compare my Rickenbacker to the likes of my MMs, Fenders, Status etc. Personally, I have no issues with playability of my 4003S. Okay, it is not a 'typical' Ric, in that the upper edge of the body is rounded off as opposed to sharp-edged as found on regular 4001 and 4003 basses. For some, a slab body may be uncomfortable, but you don't hear many players complaining that their slab bodied pre-EB Stingrays are hard to get on with. When playing finger-style, I tend to rest my thumb either on the upper edge of the scratch plate above the neck pickup or on the neck pickup surround itself. No problem. When playing with a pick, I rest my hand on the treble pickup cover. I don't have the option to remove the cover as my Ric has a magnetic Horseshoe pickup, and don't want to tamper with it. No problem. Fair enough, the bridge isn't the most brilliant piece of design work, but personally once it's set up I don't fiddle about with it. No problem. On the plus side, there is an inbuilt rubber mute in the bridge which is very easy to use in my experience - better than the MusicMan mutes which have biodegraded on one of my basses and fallen off of the other. Neck-wise, my Ric has a thinner neck than my MMs and Fenders - I don't own a Jazz bass so can't compare the profile, nut width to a Jazz - and have found that I get much better access to the heel end of the neck due to the fact that it's a through neck. Much easier to play up 'the dusty end' than the basses I have with big chunky ended bolt-on necks. I also have no issues with neck diving, unbalance or weight of the Ric either. See, there are some BCers who think Rics aren't as bad as they are made out to be.... PS: this is the only Ric I've owned in 30 years of playing, so I'm not some blinkered, drooling Rickenbacker fanboy either.
But the slab on the stingray has a very rounded profile rather than a razor edge to it.
24. You might have been better off with the older version Conan, which would probably have cost more! Lol
25. Everyones ears are tuned differently and the frequencies they want are different too, quite a few people shifted the barefaced cabs on for either a Genz neox or some form of bergantino because they were too muddy and couldn't get the top end zing, maybe the top end zing is at the expense of the mid so people requiring more mid will prefer the barefaced cabs, equally anyone using a more mid focused bass or an active one might prefer something else.
