Hi stingrayPete I do agree there are some amazing separates out there. But a great 500W head and separate high quality 2x12 cab for £600 all in? I'd challenge anyone to find me high quality separates at that price that could go head to head with the GK or the Fender combos? (And plenty of bass chat comparing different amp heads and cabs, so I thought it would be great to hear a bit more about folk's thoughts on the combo options). Thanks Ramirez - good to hear a contrary view about the Orange cleansound issue...
Well you said £1000 not £600 and the orange is £900. I have a genz 'combo' 1x12 and shuttle 6.0 head, the head is removable though, in fact I purchased it as a head and a neox 2x12t which is a proper gigging cab and head, I purchased the cab off here a few years later to make it back into a combo, it would see off a fender rumble no problem on its own or like the markbass put another 1x12 under it for a full on 2x12 600 watt, the advantage being im not tied to the head but I can carry it in one go, it even has a fold out tilting foot built in,weights nothing.

Some people dont like Cort on a moral basis, but they make some good gear!

I just would not even concider one for a class D style head amp, 59lbs for a 2x10 combo that is always going to be limited by the cab, massive 2x12 orange combo for nearly a £1000 what ya been smoking! How much more time does it take to put an amp on top of a cab and connect one speaker lead?

I use a stagg electric upright and a very small 1x10 cab and shuttle 3.0 amp for my local acoustic jam, it goes down very well compared to just using a jazz bass or similar. -
Good stuff let us know how you get on, are they active basses or just passive? if it is an active version dont be affraid to sink the pickup into the body reasonably far on the E side and adjust the G side to where it sounds balanced, they have more than enough poke to not need the pickup really close to the strings, you often find there is a point where the output gets better as you move it further away plus it gives more room for slappin'

Sounds like the sort of guy that says you can hear the difference between eveready and duracell batteries in active basses....
-
They kind of look like Barefaced cabs anyway
Oh dear;( maybe I should offload this..
I like that! -
Tbf we dont know what the fee is, if its as good a gig as suggested thats great but will need a huge pa, even a good pro function band pa is going to struggle over jet plane engines! If it can be done with a few Mackie tops, pair of subs and a couple of monitors its going to be a lower key event imo.
-
I'm not trying to get your back up Silvia and my earlier posts were in jest but as I said to happy Jack via pm never have I done one of these gigs where the band provide the pa, I know it's sorted so hopefully we will find out more, maybe the band were hiring the pa for the venue as an extra service? Still massively odd in my experience of this type of
Thank you Adam, made my day worthwhile. Hope all going well on your road to stardom. Jealous, moi? Agree with much you say, however, they do have some purchasing power with their couriers for obvious reasons. The point I was trying to make is if I wanted a £180 bass, it would cost me the same for delivery as something that would come in a small jiffy bag (no comments discreet thank you ). So for something small, that is in fact quite a lot cheaper, it makes little sense when I can get the same thing from the UK, higher price, cheaper postage, no currency waffling about. Time to leave Mr TBird alone, enough perhaps? MrPete1977, is that the Button Moon just down the road from Highley, where I will be all next week?
Postage is free on items above about £165 but is now €15 on anything less which is good for an amp or lights etc, we shouldn't really be buying items smaller than that from Germany IMO anyway. My button moon is in Staffordshire
One of the reasons I won't order from Thomann. 10 Euro postage oIn a bass bridge weighing what, 30/40 g? It's a bass bridge, not the bloody Tyne bridge
Have you tried to post one to Germany? £8 including the packaging costs on an item often 3/4 of the price anywhere else seams fair to me, there is obviously a cut of point, plectrums and small items won't be worth it but for anything larger I've never seen lower prices and bigger purchases are free postage, my Stagg was £299 with free postage yet my local shop has to pay £369 to get then in before adding their cut, my double bass strings were £135 at thomann £150 everywhere else.

As soon as you mix speaker types and sizes you can be hearing all sorts, the single larger speaker might be doing all the work and giving a great sound while the smaller one is quietly being ruined, adding an extra identical cab would probably give you a similar result to what you hear when adding the 15" possibly better. Also a crap 4x10 will always be crap where a top end 2x10 would handle the low B better for example.
Apologies to the OP for the complete thread hack! Pete, you are a bad bad man, it's even more tempting now!
Hhmmm I live near Chesterfield and visit Bristol quite often, (long Ashton and Clifton areas)

They were around only a few years ago with the gig bag option etc, the basses are identical other than that, I paid extra for my blue pearl SR5 new in 2010 then they released it as an option on these in the £999 version!

It is a shame when a brand annoys you but dont let it ruin a good bass, the EBMM forum is a joke and I have seen people sell basses because BigPoppa annoyed them but I like their basses not their CEO
No but it is in there small print that the item must be returned in its packaging its not really so much about the strings I am annoyed I just found the answer I got indicated they did not care that is what has annoyed me
I am 99.9% certain that makes no odds and 100% certain it does not in the UK if the item is faulty, if you take something back because its not what you want then that is correct as the shop can sell it on if you dont ruin the box, if its faulty then the packaging makes no odds and you are proving that you are not trying to get a free set by offering to return them, they may or may not want them or argue over who pays shipping.
God damnit Pete, don't tell everyone!!!
Lol, if it goes for £550 it will be the biggest ray bargain ever!
