Sought after basses of the future?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Number6's topic in General Discussion
No doubt about it !!! Vigier basses and guitars !!! Also Grand Master basses !!! http://www.grandmasterguitars.com And I am not biased at all. But also the usual names that have got away with selling sh*te for decades so I suppose the sheep will always pay more for these basses.
They all look rank to me, I'll stick with my sheep bass thanks -
Sought after basses of the future?
Hmm, probably Fender and Gibson custom shop models if nothing else. In about ten years I would suspect that 1980s Fenders will become sought after even though they not highly thought of at the moment. As said above as well, any original bass made by a 'boutique' luthier before they retire: Fodera, Sadowsky, Ritter, Carl Thompson, Mike Lull etc.
It would be interesting to see what the uptake of the bass guitar figures have looked like over the past forty years, I'd be amazed if they aren't falling, the supply and demand for high end boutique basses will surely not pan out well, even on a forum like this today they'll be people who have no idea what most of the basses you mention are, imagine that projected forward. The only way a Lull jazz will be worth more than they are now will be when a new Fender Jazz costs over £4k with inflation imo. -
Sought after basses of the future?
stingrayPete1977 replied to Number6's topic in General Discussion
I can't imagine the youth of today fighting over anything particularly interesting bass wise, high prices tend to be driven mainly by nostalgia, those who really wanted a Rickenbacker in the 70s are now in a position to buy one for example, working on that logic eBay will be full of listings for old iPhones and such things. I'd imagine the safer money would be on main stream instruments rather than anything special, the kids into proper bands now and in the future are going to be the slightly retro loving ones I'd say, if I was looking to invest it would be a 66 jazz or a 50s P bass rather than something like one of BRX's Gus basses regardless of the playability, I wouldn't use an old Fender anyway as they all have a string missing -

Advice on amplifying an acoustic bass guitar please.

I've given up with mine, it never leaves the house and I've fitted a mag pickup to my double bass -
Facebook is not a place for people who take themselves or life too seriously. It will drive them mad. My weekly bin update gets a huge number of likes and comments. Some people get it and some don't. I don't think people should slam it as a terrible thing just because they don't partake in it. I moderate a huge social group, I don't want to be close friends with 540 people as I only see some of them occasionally but I do need to exchange information and ideas with all of them on a regular basis. Some of those 540 people don't get Facebook either and are constantly complaining about the background noise. It's like going to a pub and complaining that someone at the table next to you is talking about Eastenders but you're talking about Football.
You lost me at bin update? Photos of stuff in your bin?

They are all red hot on information sharing these days too.
Interesting. I've never been there, though have driven past a few times. What's the parking like?
It used to be four spaces out the front, three of which blocked the only disabled bay and access to the hotel next door, ah clever developers. Mind PMT isn't much better.

I un friended and unliked everything on mine so it wouldn't have anything other than friend requests if they did ever reactivate it, I did the full delete on mine where you have to not log on for two weeks.

That's his image done for.

Fingers crossed, looks well clamped up, patience required, no peeking!

80's brands that tried to kill your bass playing.

I started on an Avon SG copy bass, awful tone, played terribly, terrible neck dive, susceptible head stock joint, horrid neck profile, body was too heavy but still had the neck dive, no where for a strap to attach properly and topped of with a thick red globby varnish, it was just like a real one! -

White Hart pub in Cannock 1999 (the band was formed in 1989! Lol), a Sunday evening for a crate of Becks I think. Bass Collection SB320 Peavey Foundation as a spare. Peavey TNT 120 AMP I can't recall the pa but I think it was a borrowed Peavey, probably 200 watt at most wit just tops for vocals. Gretsch drumkit that's still busy with the drummers covers band. Epiphone Les Paul and a Marshall 80/80 amp. No lights and one mic I think. Ace fun! -
They need this for an online licence check code. This is fairly new since the paper part of a driving license became defunct.
That's not their job though is it? You are supposed to do it and give them the temporary access code. I suspect in that case it's so you can do it on their computer if you haven't bought the code with you? -
If I tried a new bass in a shop that went head down on a strap I'd put it back without plugging it in, that said I dont think I've ever tried a bass on a strap in a shop, luckily all the Thunderbirds and Rickenbackers I tried were dogged with other faults so I never got that far, they look nice though

Bugger!

I had a 78 Ricky on loan for a while, I don't know why they didn't just put the bridge on the opposite end so you could play it the other way up!

stingrayPete1977 replied to Grangur's topic in General Discussion
You can electroplate stuff at home using donuts of donor metals, a battery charger, buckets and solutions, I have always fancied having a go but it looks a bit of a faff tbh. It does however end up with an anodized finish much more suitable for a bass bridge. Powder coat is a bit clunky all told. -
There's no rule to say you cant buy another if you do feel the urge remember, I have thought about slimming down my elec bass collection in a kind of reverse of your situation where I can see me looking for more upright stuff in future and less electric band stuff. Good luck whatever you decide
Limited numbers... but it's easy enough to do. Blast the coating off existing hardware and powder coat. Hipshot would probably send you a bridge uncoated cos they seem awfully nice chaps.
Someone wanted one the other day and I suggested that but afterwards I replied thinking actually powder coat might be too thick, it's not great on anything detailed like saddles, Also it's quite soft so saddle screws would sink into it even if you just did the main part? -
Oh right, odd as they were correct, lol.

What was that stuff popping up during The 1975 slagging them off, ironic or disgruntled employee?
