1.
funky clefs
I have copyright dibs on this ok.
 2.
I've often wondered if this arrangement makes more sense if you play fingerstyle. I think the logic behind the other setup (eE aA dD gG) was that if you played with a pick, you'd strike the octave strings first on the downstroke - so if you played with your fingers, you'd strike the bass strings first. On the other hand, it's probably easier to fret the octave strings if you can see them on top of the bass strings!
That's why I had the "reverse" sense fitted, to make it easier to play fingerstyle. Worked for the plucking hand, it's hard work either way for the fretting hand!
 3. What a fantastic song though. Never got the hang of 8-strings. I had a Shergold double 4/8 (search around basschat enough, you'll see it a few times) and found it difficult to play. The set up was EeAaDdGg, octave strings in the lower (physically speaking) position.
 4.
Alto and tenor clefs were both in there.
Oops I didn't notice that they weren't centred on the same line.
 5. 11/15, incl some guessing. Most mistakes from not knowing what the funky clef is that's neither bass nor treble. Any clues?
 6.
Yes, that would be useful. I started off by bending down to turn the volume knob down to fade out. Now I use a 2nd volume pedal after the Ditto.
You can almost get enough traction on the big central loop level knob to turn it with you foot given a grippy enough shoe, but it's not reliable. Doesn't your second volume pedal affect your non-loop (direct) signal as well?
 7.
Unless you're gonna use the reverse/half speed effects, which to be honest are a bit gimmicky and something you'd maybe hardly ever use, I'd go for the normal ditto which for half the price.
I found the X2's additional button an improvement over the single-button er, X1. Now what I'd really like to see is is a "fade-out" option for the looped signal, or preferably an integral loop volume pedal.
 8. I have a strap for each bass: mostly Planet Waves with the moving shoulder pad, although my main bass (Geddy Lee sig Jazz, black and white) has got the Eagle Mountain SRV103B as seen on the cover of Texas Flood. (I copied Tom Herbert from Polar Bear/Electric Ladyland etc before realising SRV used one as well) All secured by Grolsch bottle washers of course
 9. The first song I learned all the way through was Metallica's "Enter Sandman". Here's some tab which looks ok, but has been annotated by someone with limited spelling skills: http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/m/metallica/enter_sandman_btab.htm
 10. Hi, My band Velcro Pelmet (https://www.facebook.com/VelcroPelmet) are playing what we hope will become a monthly jazz night at the Tooting Tram & Social in Tooting, SW17 (2 mins walk from Tooting Broadway tube station). We play a mix of jazz fusion originals and reinterpreted versions of material originally by the likes of Miles Davis, Weather Report, Mike Stern, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, the Jaco Pastorius big band, Pat Metheny and others. Supporting us this time are Recommended Units (guitar and saxophone-led groove jazz with a modern edge) and The Young Scientists (jazz, blues and surf sounds). Admission is a rather friendly £3. More details on our attached events page: https://www.facebook...24569734318784/ See the Tram's web site at http://tootingtramandsocial.co.uk/map/ for location. As this is hopefully going to develop into a monthly thing, we'll be on the lookout for bands to join us on the bill (or headline if you're really good). If you're interested, send me a PM with some info about band and links to youtubes, soundcloud etc. Thanks! Tony
 11. Like! Specially with that pickguard.
 12.
Thanks, glad you like it ! I've trimmed down the effects that I'm using, I realised I wasn't using most of them. The only effects on this would be my TC hall of fame reverb using the Steve Lawson tone print. There's chorus too, which is an mxr. I have a TC flashback delay too, but I'm not sure if I used that on this. It was an improvisation. I'm going to write it out later, I'm happy to put a copy up if you want ? It's all played using an ebow, except for the melody bit. The ebow has a switch, the high bits that sound like cries are with the switch in the down, away from you position. Play the melody first, I usually have at least a 4 bar loop, that gives plenty of scope for improv and avoids it sounding too repetitive. I have some videos that I recorded last week, they kind of show the process. A lot of it is down to how you hear what you're doing. I tend not to think bass.
Thanks, would really like to see the written-out version. Do you use volume pedals for fade-in and outs? Or is that the effect of the ebow? ps is "An Ascent Ending" a nod to Eno? pps oh scrub that I've just read your Soundcloud profile
 13.
Lots of reviews and info on looping here - http://www.loopers-d...t.com/loop.html This is something I recorded on my Ditto earlier - https://soundcloud.c...d/25052015-live
Nice! can you tell us what "a few effects pedals" are, and how you constructed the track with the looper? I've not much further than "play the chords for a 12-bar" and solo over the top.
 14. I had a Headrush. Great pedal and you get the echo/delay functions as well, but the looper is limited by the short loop time - 24s or 36s depending on settings. I traded up to a Ditto X2, you get 5 minutes loop time there.
 15. I bought Muri's MXR Bass Octave Deluxe - a great pedal, an easy and quick transaction and personal delivery too. Good job!
 16.
Hope she enjoys this.
Thanks! Sorry to say though she wandered off muttering something about "landing fields" and "behind the fretboard" making no sense
 17. After twenty-five years playing, I'm still struggling with the following: - getting the guitarist to shut up (ie stop playing when not needed) - getting the keyboard player to turn down - getting the drummer to play at the right tempo It's not all bad news! I've succeeded with singers, I only play instrumental music these days
 18. What's double thumbing? My wife is curious.
 19.
Johnny Depp was a musician in South Florida long before he went to L.A. and became an actor.
Also, you didn't see me round 'ere right... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/254513-denmark-street-hype-or-tripe/page__view__findpost__p__2673765
 20.
Have found Wiki mentions of Depp playing guitar & drums, but can't find bass.
21.
Yup.
What am I missing? anything apart from general awesome guitar solo?
 22. Lianne is an old friend of Later - she was on a few times when her last album was out (and that's how I first heard of her). First time I've seen her play bass though! Check this one out from a couple of years ago. Hot Sardines were great, didn't like John Misty though, my sincere beard-o-meter was in the red.
