1.
Who is Anil Prasad? Both articles read like they're written by someone that doesn't understand either the flow of finances through the music industry or general consumer spending habits.
http://www.innerviews.org/about.html - he's on facebook if you want to join in the debate there as well
2. Here's Anil's follow-up article suggesting a new streaming model: https://medium.com/@...le-453d4a9b34c2 The first listen is free, then... "Rent the track for one play for 10 cents, much like putting a dime in a jukebox. Or buy the track for $1, which then makes it possible to both download it, as well as stream it forever at no additional cost. Or, stream the entire service’s catalog for a subscription fee, but at a much higher price point than Big Music — potentially $40–60 a month." (Big Music = Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play etc)
3. Which brings me on to Trevor Horn - anything with him behind the desk (and occasionally bass) gets the thumbs up from me: as well as Propaganda, there's Frankie, ABC, etc. Here's Trev with Propaganda at a "Me and My Mates" gig at Wembley. Alan White from Yes on drums. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fEDeyWQqoE
4.
Saw Propaganda in the 80s with the mighty Derek Forbes on bass.
Any idea where and when? My second ever gig was Propaganda supported by Then Jerico at Hammersmith Palais, Nov 1985. Didn't know the Kevin Armstrong/Simple Minds connection!
5.
I hate to disagree but Stevie Wonder in the 80s included such (IMO) drivel as "Happy Birthday", I Just Called to Say I love You" and "Ebony and Ivory". Each to his own obviously but no amount of post production will rescue this tosh.
Yeah but also Do I Do, Master Blaster and Go Home, which crops up in this nugget of 80s joy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGzWqAc16l0
6. Yep, agree here on set everything flat to start with, and roll off the bass frequencies if needed. Also, tilt the amp back to decouple it from the floor, this'll give you a bit more idea of what's actually coming out of the speaker. Book yourself an hour before rehearsal with just yourself in the room to listen at volume (not loud, but more than bedroom volumes) and experiment with the amp's EQ to see what frequencies you like or dislike in your sound. Watch some footage of bands with bassists whose sound you like, and see if you can clock their settings, or dig them from interviews with your favourite artists.
7. I bought Stu's Quad Capture box - fast and easy transaction, and delivery couldn't have been quicker. Thanks!
8.
Have half the bands being mentioned done anything even vaguely interesting in the last 15 years? Or are you all just after an easy life churning out popular songs to an adoring but ageing audience? There's plenty of new bands from the last 15 years that I like but few with bassists. So, for me it would have to be the Birthday Massacre, or failing that I'm perfectly happy with the musical choices I've already made.
Nobody said it had to be a new band
9. Very good! it reminded me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_kloG2Z7tU Which then also reminded me of this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T-DcSAIagk
10. I also send a message like "let me know when its arrived and I'll be sure to add positive feedback" in the hope that a buyer sending that message will leave feedback at the same time. It works about 2/3rds of the time.
11. Rare to see one so close to the doghouse! (it's a cello isn't it? a passing pedant just mentioned)
12. Greetings from just over the border in SW London!
13. +1 for Shadows, look out for What Duck Done as well.
14.
looks great, can't attend tonight but will try to attend one of the subsequent shows
Cool! Will update the thread when I've got a bit more info, but we're set for August 2nd.
15. It's tonight! We're expecting our support band Selectric to be obn at 7.30, then Velcro Pelmet at 9.30pm. I've had multiple threads merged for this ongoing night, in case anything is looking odd. I'll update this one thread to advertise future nights at the same venue.
16. I saw them at Wilderness last year, and they were pretty good. Missed the Glastonbury set though, so rummaged on the BBC site and er oh hello
17. Thanks! It's a well-established venue but it's a new thing for them having a regular jazz-themed night. Velcro Pelmet - helping pubs serve beer via the medium of jazz-rock
18. Check out my update in the Gigs forum for details of this month's event on July 5th - and drop me a line if you're interested in appearing at future gigs.
19. Thanks Thomas - I'll be sure to update the forum for the next night, hopefully August 2nd.

21.
They did that at Manchester last night - a comprehensive romp through all of the albums (only exception was Antipop) as a trio, then the Wonka set. Encores with the cellist and percussionist were brilliant!
That's what happened at Brixton as well *drinky drinky motion*
22. Some pictures from Brixton... https://www.facebook.com/o2academybrixton/posts/10152894126797019
23.
Although there was some cracking xylophone & cello solos.
Yeah, they got the biggest cheers at Brixton as well - they really made a difference tbh
24. Setlist now available at http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/primus/2015/o2-academy-brixton-london-england-4bc9773a.html Did anyone else hear an Oom-pah** version of La Villa Strangiato in the interval? ** as in German brass band, not Oompah Loompahs. At how many other gigs does one need to make this distinction?
