I trawled this site for a long time to get the right compressor for me. Finished up with an Aguilar TLC which I've been using religiously for 3 years now!
I've tried a LOT of compressors over the years including rack mount and pedals and I swear by my TLC! I wouldn't have anything else for on the move and it takes something special in the studio to make me switch.

All my dealings with them have been nothing short of perfect. However, I did feel a little self-conscious when I went into the Newcastle branch recently to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 and there was ZERO background music and as soon as I started playing, I was VERY aware that the staff and customers who were about were all listening in. Slightly awkward but a minor niggle IMO and only my view. Others might like that kind of atmosphere!

Lovely looking bass but that god awful '120th anniversary' 12th fret inlay just puts me off all the 2014 Gibson models!

In hardcases apart from the one I'm loving at the time. That one is out in a stand in my front room next to my bass chair :-)
Does that mean the 200 model has the same power section as the old 300W Shuttle, and the 500, has the 600W Shuttle bits/bobs? Cheers, Ewan
Just checked. It appears that all Genz Benz and new Fender Rumble amps use the same Bang & Olufsen designed power sections, so Genz Benz innards are now in rumble amps :-)

We sell more Squier jazzes than precisions but more Fender Precisions than jazzes... And people wonder why they can never find what they want in stores. It's no wonder when the store has to predict trends like that lol!

I'm just a drummer with strings most of the time... Unless the guitarist tries to be too flash, then I head beyond the 5th fret and show 'em how it's done!

I love the smell of carnauba wax, polish and lemon oil! I could spend hours cleaning and restringing my basses!

Melodic arpeggios and triad combing for bass
skej21 replied to timbo1978's topic in EUB and Double Bass
If it's half as good as '60 melodic eludes' it'll be worth every penny! -
your shop wouldn't have a lefty one in stock or can you order one in skej ?
I'm pretty sure that would be a 'no' on both counts I'm afraid! I'll let you know though :-)
Thanks again! Well, here is the Utility Bass being utilised:
This photo is amazing. The bass looks great. The look on your (bass) face suggests that there is someone just off stage loudly questioning the utility of the utility bass! (Or a group of yoofs have just kicked a football into your garden!) Be gone, utility doubting heathen!!

We have a Gibson SG Standard bass (2013, cherry) in the shop and it's bloody lovely and a constant source of GAS. If I wasn't so averse to short scale id have snapped it up as it's going for a silly price! However, after seeing this, the walnut version is STUNNING! I might have to put my hand in my pocket and order one!!
I used a Rumble 75 tilk back combo a few week's ago and was suprised by what it could pump out, sounded nice although I used my Behringer DBI21 to goose it If they've just intergrated some of Genz know how to make sure the D-class power module and power supplies are good (which it sounds like they might by Eude's comments about using the same power sections as the higher rated Genz stuff, then I think these should be pretty nice amps, the sound clips sound very nice anyway
Had a word with one of the guys from Fender about these at work. Theyre basically all the Genz Benz innards (components) repackaged. Looks like a really nice little range to me :-)

My gig (tonight) was awesome! Great vibe, one tiny error, loads of dancers/audience members getting involved and I was packed up in the van by 11:30 PM! Perfection.

The "it's on the telly right now" music related thread
I just watched it, well worth it.
+1 Truly engrossing. I ignored the postie and someone else at the door because I didn't want to pause it lol! -
I really like the SR300 but as it's been mentioned quite a lot im going to throw the ATK 200 into the mix. Same quality but with a totally different pickup/tone! The new 2014 ATK200TP is coming in at £289! Bargain!! http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/u_eb_page14.php?year=2014&cat_id=2&series_id=56&data_id=105&color=CL01

Fred 'Sonic' Smith of Television (and original bassist for Blondie before replacing Richard Hell when he left Television)... I also think that Este Haim is a great bassist. She really drives the band and adds an extra dimension to the band. A very similar mould to Tina Weymouth.

Just get one of these. It has all the right Allen key sizes for Fenders (including the elusive Bad Ass II adjustment Allen key size!). Perfect for the old gig bag too :-) http://www.gak.co.uk/en/cruztools-groovetech-multitool/54133?gclid=CLW1372xvLwCFSbnwgodgDMANw
High street outlets stock what they know they can sell, and fretless - even in its heyday - was the minority choice. You can't criticise retailers for being conservative about their stocking decisions, as I'm guessing most can't afford to have money tied up in stock they know they'll struggle to shift. Could point at a few fretless basses currently in stock with retailers that, if the items had been fretted versions, would have flown out the door, but, fretless, have been hanging around for months on end (and, in one case, sitting in stock for around three years). Run a poll, and see how many of the members actually play fretless. I'd guess at fewer than one in twenty.
Exactly this. I tried to get some fretless basses in our store to try and accommodate more bass players and extend the range. The 3 or 4 players interested wanted a good quality fretless (which is understandable) but NO retailer is going to test the market with a £1200 US Fender Jazz fretless. So by introducing entry level fretless basses, those interested simply turned their noses up at them (as they were sub £400 fretless basses) and it took an age to sell them as it's a niche market to begin with. In fact, it's very similar to lefty instruments. Nice idea to accommodate them but often hard to have a good enough offering to get the sales to justify the retail estate. All that did was justify to management that fretless basses are not worth the space on the wall or having the money tied up in. We then introduced the Epiphone Jack casady which is proving hard work just to keep in stock. You have to stock what people buy (regularly!). It's that simple.

I read it as 'TR'... It's a 'T' written in the same font as 'Tanglewood'

These are the rules (Bass players, see No. 5)

13. Don't expect musicians to agree with ANY of these... They have far too much ego to believe its relevant to them! -
It's the feel that works, doesn't matter if a sander did it rather than skin
Damn right! A sander just puts thousands of tiny scratches into the body VERY quickly, as opposed to my arm which does it slowly over thousands of hours. The outcome is the same.

If it's anything like other US manufacturers, it'll be warranty in US & Canada only but a minimal warranty (usually a year) through the store. Martin & Co are the main example I can think that do this - http://www.martinguitar.com/guitar-care/warranty-information.html I suppose you should check the warranty blurb on the brand website.
