1.
Yes, I did reply to them to point out that they shouldn't be doing this. I've been working in web user experience for over 14 years now and honestly thought that the days when an online retailer would email your password to you were long gone. They shouldn't need a customer to point this out.
Oh I totally agree but things dont improve if we don't help each other (which you did ). That is a bit worrying though!
  2. Have you mentioned this to them? Maybe they aren't aware and you could help highlight the issue and prevent any misuse of information too
  3.
I reckon the short answer is it's an elf and safety issue! Anyone got a Midget for sale???
I have... His name is Little Mark (the third)! If he's unsuitable, his dad (Little Mark II) may be available...
  4.
It's because if you don't use proper bass bins, all that bass can't get out of the desk properly, where it builds up to excessive levels and causes untold damage. Simple electrical engineering principles!
Ah, so that's what they call 'bass ghosting' which must have something to do with Phantom power?
  5. To be fair, ask her and her dad to explain the scientific justification they have for making this obscure statement. They clearly THINK they know why your bass has blown it and will be able to explain how the bass can affect the PA in detail to you Either that or you'll call their bluff and get to watch them stumble and squirm before you emerge triumphantly with a 'it can't be me because...' statement, informed by the mighty knowledge of Basschat. Also. Please film and post the latter
That 75 is lovely. In fact perfect.
Thanks! Obviously I agree lol. The only thing that's nagging me is the white scratchplate... I think parchment or mint green would be more subtle/suitable/vintage (as the binding on the fingerboard has gone creamy over 28 years!) but that's the original 'plate so I'm not sure I want to change it :s

    Jazz

Here's a picture of my three jazzes. My Geddy Lee, '75 Reissue (refinished by BassDoc) and '62 reissue. I like jazzes
  8.
Thanks for the pointer! Off to YouTube I go...
I've just tried to find it and it's gone. It is up in individual tracks still but not in full. Here's a great little acoustic number (which isn't much like the rockier stuff)... http://youtu.be/BzoVLDdHwW4
  9.
Yeah stick to the smaller stuff nowadays myself - did go to o2 Dublin a few weeks back and was BLOWN AWAY by Zac Brown... Stevie Wonder in the same venue a few years previous was a disappointment so it may be the act as much as the venue...
Zac brown is great! He is really pushing a band on his record label who I actually prefer: Blackberry Smoke. Their whole live show. 'Live at Georgia theatre' is on YouTube. Check it out, I think you'll like it
  10. This will be a good thread I like a standard 19mm on 4 strings but a 16.5mm on 5 strings as I tend to play more technically on a 5er (and I'm looking for a 5er as my next purchase!)... Subscribed!
  11.
Hang on a mo, if I'm thinking this through, do you work for Banks in York? If I remember correctly, I was in York when you had the natural one in stock and stupidly I thought 'I'll go back tomorrow and try it' and we didn't have time. I'm always in York (just because its a great place!) and I might be there again soon. Do you have any more in or coming in? Cheers
I sure do! I don't think we'll be getting any more of the EB14s in unless it's for an order due to various stocking reasons. We used to have an awful bass selection until I started lol. Mainly ibanez gsr200s and that was all. I've gradually talked them into getting some nicer stuff so we now have stuff like US standard jazz bass, SR1200, Jack Casady, fender precision , fender mustang, two SG basses and a few others. I'm also pushing for some TC electronics amp stuff too :-) One day my bass domination will be complete!
  12.
For £ 800 or so with that stunning case...it's crazy !
It really is! We had two of the 4 string EB13s in last year (natural and sunburst) and they were just as awesome. One of them went to our very own moderator, Gus
  13. I spent most of today playing this lovely Gibson EB 5 string. What a lovely bass! Full USA Gibson, Ash body, Babicz bridge, Nitrocellulose finish, Alnico V DeCola pickups with pull pots and a hardcase for under £1k. I'm sure it's new owner will be happy but thought i'd get some info up for anyone who's been interested in these! Superb. And here's the porn...
  14.
I love he look of a well played (not artificially relic'ed) P Bass; particularly Scott Devine's and Scott Thunes' Ps. I also love the look of a Rickenbacker. I do not like the feel of them though. The gods have decreed that I am a Jazz man - 'twas always thus and ever shall be. I reckon I've done alright.
Sounds like you need a precision with a slim/jazz profile neck
  15.
are you serious?
Anchorman reference... Clearly didn't come across like that. Apologies! http://youtu.be/gId6nrMDmUU
  16.
It looks better in the picture than in reality: has its dings and dongs, quite some buckle rash on the back of the body, and the pickguard is shrunken, so that the tin plate protrudes all around. The finish on the back of the neck is worn down completely - that neck feels so good!! I never had a bass that played so smoothely. Fantastic. And it's a featherweight with 3520 g. And the tone! Elegant warm and rich. All this makes up for the quite colourful sunburst finish which I actually don't like that much.
Well you can always pass it this way if you're not a fan lol. Seriously though, that is STUNNING!
  17.
I have owned P basses on and off over the years, but never grew on me enough. Yesterday I took one of my Sue Ryder P basses, which was strung with Status flats and had a Wizard Thumper pickup on, and I put on a set of roundwounds (Rotosounds swing 66). The action was never optimal because the neck needed a shim... so I did that too. Wow. I already had a "revelation" last summer with my Squier 'Mike Dirnt' Precision... but I forgot about it, and that bass just feels "flimsier" than the SR. It's not going to replace my Stingray of Jazz... but I'm definitely going to stop looking down at Precisions. (yes, I did, )
Are you just looking at basses and saying you love them?... Do you really love P bass, or are you just saying that because you saw it?
  18. Antibacterial hand gel... Load-ins are always dirty (especially with the old van we have!) and most gigs we do are weddings so the buffet is always just around the corner!
  19. Pino. No contest.
  20. The man is a legend. I've had a fee bits of work done by Howard including a refinish and his work is always outstanding. Can't wait to see this when it's complete!
  21.
sorry dude, I'm only getting links with my posts. don't know why.
No problem man! It's just a nightmare to try and open on mobile devices lol. In future, where the link says 'https://' at the start, just delete the 's' out to make 'http://' and it should work :-)
  22.
I've seen a few vids from a guy called Valter Kabas. . i really liked his slap playing on this classic. its one of the coolest most musical slap parts, that just work so well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOJzRxlBRhI but this doesn't work so well. I like to think i know what sounds good, and for me this slap bass guitar doesn't on this record. it seems a classic example of slap bass used where it shouldn't be. over takes the whole record http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLmnKiuSy-Y i don't want to knock anyones playing. although the skills are there, you can't apply those slap skills to everything. skills aren't the basis for taste i reckon. i guess i like simple musical slap.
Cool playing and musical slap. Too much technique in the second one for me. Too far removed from what is needed and not what can be rammed in but the first vid is a great example of playing something cool that works without being too flashy! P.s. Fixed so people can actually watch them and not have to faff with the links!
  23. They've also released this colour with the NAMM 2014 models. I hope they end up doing the SR305 in this colour because I'd have one without thinking twice!
  24. Worst paint job ever. It looks like they haven't even bothered taking the neckplate or strap buttons off and just sprayed that too!
  25.
I pay £25 an hour for my bass tutor and he's a professional working bass player who is incredibly talented on both the electric and double bass. He himself will book a lesson in with any of his idols if they're in the area to keep on top of his technique. I believe he's got at least a degree, maybe a masters in music so his theory is first class. He also knows how to apply it to the instrument. My technique is noticeably better and by that I mean people who heard me play before the lessons now say that there's a massive improvement in technique and tone. So if you can, grab a working pro bass player as a tutor. None of these "I play guitar but can teach bass" people. You really want someone who lives and breathes bass. The conversations I have with my tutor about general gigging, playing and gear before the lesson are almost worth the money for the lesson alone!
Plus one to this! When I had lessons, my teacher was a pro bassist and gave me hundreds of bits of useful advice about gigging and reading... You're unlikely to get advice on sight reading bass from a guitarist who 'can do a bit of bass'.
