1. I bought my Flea bass 5 new for USD 2,000 back in 2007. At the time, the exchange rate was 1 GBP = 2 USD. So, GBP 1,000 for a new modulus was a good price and certainly good value. Today, the exchange rate is 1.58. The USD 2,300 they propose is GBP 1,446. It's a lot of money !!! I would not do it at this price, unless someone can prove me that they will become extremely rare and hold their value. Or, unless you've tried one and you are totally in love with it.
2. Give it one more chance after a talk. If no improvement, leave the band.
3. Get a Sonuus audio to midi coverter. Send midi to your mac and pick an organ sound.
4. I find string spacing more to my taste on a 5 string. True, you can get slim 4's , etc... but for me it works better in terms of ergonomics. So, not going back on 4 string foe the moment.
5.
These aren't 'Road Worn' unless your day job is playing Bass in a Fire-eaters band and he really doesn't like you.
+1 yeah, or maybe Road Worn means drag the instrument on the road while you are driving
6. I have one. great piece of kit. very good price!!!
7. Ouch !!!! I wonder if insurance is money well spent for such accidents. A new Les Paul goes for GBP 1,200 . I guess a GBP 1,200 cheque would help. But, if it's a 1995 model, then I guess buying a new instrument may not help.
8. Go an eBay and buy one of these oversized second-hand trace elliot heads. Pick one that weights at least 20 kilo for good measures. Spend GBP 500 and feel like a real man with a proper head. Then use the remaining GBP 100 to buy the filmography of Chuck Norris. Grow a stach.
9. Not sure I could live without tone controls. True, hand placement and amp preamp will work to that effect. But, it sounds counter-intuitive not to have controls immediately available to fiddle with sound. Not self: try one and decide.
10.
Honestly, the three minutes I heard was completely unmusical. If i did what he did on a guitar I'd be seen as a beginner, do it on a ten string bass and I would be seen as a 'proper musician'.
+1 The means deployed here do not bring anything a beginner guitarist wouldn't bring. So why bother.... I wonder
11. Wow, and I thought I was suffering from GAS with the following list... Past: Ibanez CT series. 4 string (my first bass!!!) Music Man Stingray. 4 string Cort Curbow. 5 string Modulus Flea 5. 5 string Epiphone made in the 60's and requiring a lot of work. 4 string A Yamaha bitsa with a Barto preamp. 5 string Current: Sadowsky MV 24. 5 string (the only one I really need !!!) Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe US, badass III bridge, John East pre, Seymour Duncan Antiquity II. 4 string Fender Jazz Bass fretless MIJ, custom shop 60's pickups. 4 string
12. But, the earlier auction was private if I recall correctly. Does the feedback show in a private auction?
13. Let's start a bid fest and make this item reach 1,000,000 GBP.
14.
have a word with watford valves - i told asked them for suggestions for revalving my ampeg svp-pro and they came up trumps.
Yup, Watford Valves are great.
15. I'm a big fan of D'Addario nickels. (1) They sound right to be (funk and jazz, with a bit of slap) (2) They are perfectly priced (3) They come in little sealed bag (which I love, I'm a sucker for these bags) (4) They they are smooth on my fingers (as opposed to steel) (5) They come in many gauges (although I gravitate around a 40-100-125) (6) They stay fresh relatively long with the right level of care (string cleaner wipe every now and then). BUT I also got into Elixir Nanoweb recently. And, I love these too. I will probably buy more if my finances allow that.
16. As I posted before, I bought a brand new LG 1000 couple of years ago. The head would not make any sound. I tried everything and I resorted to sending the head back to the shop. The shop called me and told me that the wiring inside was defective, but that they managed to re-solder the faulty wiring. They asked me if I wanted the head posted back after the repair. I told them they could keep it.
17. I am renting storage space with Shurguard. It's pricey, but offers top security, dry environment, car access, elevator, and no issue with temperature...
18. Now seriously. I have never managed to achieve what you are after with ASIO drivers. Whenever I turn my DAW, it overtakes everything else, so much so, that I can only play other sources of music if imported in the DAW first.
19. I have a CASIO watch. Not sure about ASIO ... Are they related?
20.
John East is the obvious suggestion
+1
21. I got a milder version of that last year. The infection spreads from the finger to the rest of the hand via the nerve system, it gets swollen and hurts badly. Antibiotics will do the trick. And yes you definitely deserve a new bass
22.
Not sure about Jazz basses and Precisions with EMG's, seems you guys want trad when using them. If you want trad stay away from the EMG's.
Spot on. They are voiced with what I would consider as "modern" tone. So, probably why they are less favoured by J and P bass aficionados.
23. I had a pair of active JBs some time ago. I got tired after a while as I found they sounded too perfect, too much definition, not enough growl. I ran them on 18v. I wasn't really into their character. I changed them for something more vintage. I also bought a pair of passive PJ Hz recently from a fellow basschatter. This was to upgrade my brother's bass. I am told they are perfect with lots of growl on tap. But, I havent had a chance to check as my brother lives abroad, and he is a guitar player dabbling with bass. So taking what he says with a pinch of salt
