1. I own an Iamp micro and I totally love it. When I bought it, I was after a markbass. But the iamp is way smaller than a markbass Little Mark and it pack as much punch. Good price too. The preamp is not extensive, but that's OK coz I like the crystal clear unaltered tone I get out of it. I used it on many different cabs and it always performed nicely, moving a lot of air without saturation. I play mine on a markbass traveller 102P cabinet. (+) - great sounding amp if you like clean unaltered sound - ultra-compact design - 2 input channels, you can use for 2 basses or switch settings with one bass - very loud, moves a lot of air and won't clip - no fuss, very easy to use (-) - the DI is a stereo 1/4 inch jack. So, you need ot make sure you have a 1/4 inch stereo to XLR if you want to be DI'ed - no rack ears available from Euphonic Audio - the top screws on the chassis are poor quality, I had some problems with opening them
2. Try acid fumes on the metal parts.
3.
On the other hand, with wood stocks going the way they are, I wonder if we are going to see more unusual construction methods and synthetic materials involved. A guitar or bass built around organic composites would certainly be interesting.
Good point. I tried one of these luthite bass some years ago (a Cort Curbow), and it was pretty fun. It would be good if it was possible to purchase luthite (or other synthetic material) bodies separately for projects. I checked online and I couldn't find anything.
4. I like it very much! Looks like you are really making the most of this extended fingerboard. I would love to see you with your band.
5. You guys totally miss the point. The ladies in the band are real hotties. I would sell my soul to the devil to play with these hot mamas. I think that's why they can afford to pay s*** money.
6.
It's here already....
Excellent. Do they also have a model for heterosexuals?
7. What about taking a break? Play drums for a while and let the cravings come to you. After you been bass starved for while, pick the bass that most appeal to you. I bet that's the ONE!
8. I was thinking along the lines off dropping the good 1/4 inch jack for instruments with usb/HDMI or whatever, that can connect/send HD sounds on whatever platform. How many thousand of years do we need to use 1/4 inch jack?
9. I am not a professional in any way. I just play for fun. I recall I got "pimped" by a few gig promoters on the London circuit back in the days. There was money, but they treated you like absolute s***. I also did some free gigs, got treated nicely, got a drinks, etc... So, if I can choose, I will take [money+nice people]. Now, if I have to choose between [money+s*** people] and [free + nice people]. I will go for the latter.
10. I pluck my strings. They vibrate on top of a magnet. That makes an electrical signal and it is converted into sound. It's been like this for over 60 years now... I recall being intrigued and a bit exited when the light-beam technology pickups came up. But, it never really took off. They are somewhat expensive and make bass settings difficult. MIDI pickups are also not very common. Let's jump 60 years in the future. Do you think we'll still be using magnets for pickups, or do you anticipate something totally different? I wonder.... Are you following any new technology at the moment that you think will change the way we play?
11.
The nose wipe is slick.
Jaco used chicken wings to lubricate this fingers. Wooten uses snot ....
12.
I love how the 'slap is boring' is always backed up by a 2 minute clip of a concert that lasted for,what?.....2 hours?
You're only as good as your last haircut
13. The headstock looks like a homemade project to me.
14. This is me attempting some Wayman Tisdale stuff ... http://youtu.be/wk-g2CHmYQU
15. OK, I love the sound of slap bass. I will take my wife without hesitation to a Marcus Miler gig (last one was for the Renaissance tour, yeah!). It turns out my wife is also quite found of Marcus Miller. This is a good sign because she couldn't care less about bass-pyrotechnics. I consider myself as a slap aficionado. I am totally hooked on the old Luther Vandros and David Sanborn stuff. Level 42 of course, Larry Graham, etc... Then, I came across the video below with Wooten "battling". And, I thought "Oh my God, this is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo boring". This reminded me how disappointed I was when I saw Wooten and Stanley Clarke a few years back at the Barbican. Wooten pulled exactly the same stuff on Stanley, the former slapping erratically while the latter was on double bass. I also thought back then "Oh my God, this is sooooo boring". From various threads, I sense there's the "I love slap" and the "I hate slap" crowd. So, this goes to the "I love slap" crowd, which I belong to : Is the Wooten slap thing really boring? Or, is it me being grumpy?
16. If you don't like it, it can be used as a coffee table. Go for it !
17.
Yep - and good service goes a long way with me. With so many music shops disappearing because they cannot compete with t'internet - i'd pay a wee bit more to know that id something goes wrong - i can just wander back in sort it.
1 extra pound for good service and a guarantee is well worth it
18. You need to have your wrist straight and aligned with your fingers (keeping the bass low will help), and detach the elbow/forearm from the body of the bass. That's the only way to be aggressive finger-style and not hurt yourself. Don't break your wrist at 90 degree, with the forearm resting on top of the bass or you'll end up with tendinitis...
19.
It was up for £320 inc a gig bag. That includes 2 year warranty and a nice chat with the staff :-)
Most online/brick-and-mortar shops sell it for £319 with free shipping. So, I would say you're in the money.
20. I found the price there are still too expensive. I recall seeing an old beat-up Epiphone @ GBP 800, when I had bought the same model off ebay for GBP 200, and thought 200 was a rip off. May I ask how much you paid for your Precision?
21. I wish I could lock my preference with UK-only for good. I agree too much stuff from the US
22. Try to use your little finger more often to build a bit of strength.
23.
Jacqui looks like she'd be dirtier and more fun than Gemma, I'll have a go....
Haaaaa, this explains Les Claypool and the whole Primus thing...
24. This would never happen on a guitar forum. Bass players are the coolest and the nicest breed.
