PA Systems

What info are you looking for? The Speakerplans.com forum is alright, if a little dated looking...
2.
yep you can indeed..... just use the send on a 'Y' inset cable
Excellent! Cheers!
3. Am I right in thinking that I can us a TRS splitter cable to take a pre-eq/effects/fader signal from my Yamaha MG166CX desk straight into my Alesis io 26 to record our live performances? Last night, I took our two large diaphram condensers and stuck them at the back of the room, and while that was ok, we obviously lack the clarity and control of a direct source!
4. You're going to need a fairly hefty PA to run all that through. We spent £900 on 2 tops and a sub, all Mackie (SA1521 x 2, SWA1501 x 1) and we wouldn't be able to run all that through it. I used to run my bass through it, and while it sounded great, it did affect the vocals, they were notably quieter when I was playing certain notes. A quick list of what you'll need with estimated used prices: 2 powered Tops - 15" - £500 - £700 for a pair 2 powered Subs - 15" or 18" - £600 - £700 for a pair Speaker stands - £20 each for sub to top poles or £45 each for floor standers 2 powered Monitors - 15" - £400 a pair Vocal Mics - SM58s - £50-60 each Kick Mic - essential! D112 - £60-70 Mic Stands - Studiospares.co.uk boom mics - £13 each A Mixer - £100+ depending on the desk Cables, lots and spares - £10+ each You'll also need cases to keep everything safe and working. We've probably spent that much over the last 12-18 months and have all the equipment listed above. Basically, I bought it all as and when I could afford it, then the band paid me from the following gigs. We also borrowed bits and pieces here and there until we had a full rig. Personally, I think it's massively important not to skrimp on the PA, we get complimented all the time on our "sound", and the PA is a massive part of it. It's so frustrating to see a band play a song really well, but it sounds pathetic because they bought a cheap PA.
5. what do you plan to run through it? What type of band? How many punters do you play to?

7. As I'm here... - you need to specify a price, read the terms and conditions of the Market Place.

10. I've got a heavy duty flight case for my Ampeg SVT-CL which I don't use at all. It's lockable, looks like this. Looking for £60 delivered or £55 collected from the Wirral. I'll get some photos up when I get a chance.

Sold.

Bump for a price drop. £85 delivered.
12. Bought an SWR Goliath 3 - 4x10 from Mark. Couldn't have been easier, great communication and very flexible with regards to postage etc. Highly recommended.
13. Good buy, that. They're excellent basses. *cliche alert* - I wouldn't sell mine for anything.
14. Right, ordered me some Rockwool RW3 from ebay, £9 per 4 pack of 1200*600*100mm. 5 Packs of that should cover the corner Superchunks in the live room. We've got a mate who's a carpenter and my uncle installs double glazing, so we're going to combine their skills to make a stud wall on the live room side of the current wall (which we'll replace the single pane glass with plasterboard again) so that should give us some half decent isolation in the lounge/mixing room. I think we're not going to treat for bass in the lounge/mixing room, only mid/highs and open the double doors when we're mixing, as an open door acts as an infinite bass trap, so I believe? Just need some time, now....To be updated with pictures asap.
15.
Nice work Ben, tons of space in there! You planning to get a recording setup working with the ready made 'control room'?
Yeah, I think so. I've got a Macbook with Logic and an Alesis 24io, so we've got the 'recording' bit, we just need to get the room sorted and some microphones really. I think, initially, we'll get just a pair of mics in stereo somewhere in the room and record everything live, but eventually, we'll get everything close mic'd and do it properly. It's all about money, as usual. I've got money to put in, but it'll be in dribs and drabs...
16.
I'm not far from you and I was just wondering where you found your new and old rehearsal rooms?
Hey Shambo, We're in Price Street Business Centre, in Birkenhead. It's a good little place. How often do you practice a week and how much money could you contribute a month? I might have a proposition for you...we've got the opportunity to move into a room about 3-4 times bigger than the 2nd room shown above. We just need to work out if we need/could afford it...! What are your band called?

18. So, we've got a practice room which we've been in for 6 months, but we're outgrowing it and so we've found a bigger room. Old Room: New Room: As you can see in the first pictures, we "made" some baffles with some "wood" and rockwool. It actually did a pretty good job of killing the bouncing mid-high frequencies, but bass is still a massive problem. I'm posting here for two reasons...firstly to get some help/ideas for what to do to the room to help the acoustics/improve recording and then to document our efforts. So, if you had this room and some money to invest, what would you do and how would you do it? Firstly, I think we'll cover most of the glass with some sort of wood/plasterboard structure, with enough glass to see into the "control room" (lounge!) and move the baffles from our old room. Ideas? Comments? All welcome!
