1.
Just bought one. Like many aspects of it but find the pickups quiet, muddy and boomy. And cheap and jangly sounding with the tone control anywhere but off. Can anyone who has done a successful upgrade of this bass recommend ideas. A KiOgon loom is probably a given, but which pickup? I like the Tonerider very much but they don't do a 5 string version.
Mine was completely good stock. Why upgrade it?
2. Sounds good! I've got betweetered MB stuff, from before JB signed up with them, but it still does old skool, no problem. Flatwound strings help a lot!
3. I was 14, and my friend and I tried really hard to wear out a copy of Sgt Peppers!
4. I've been happy with my CMD121H for 11 years now. Added the 'correct' Traveler 121H and it's such a great rig. And of course, the combo is great on its own too! Colour me Markbassed!
5. Certainly, a 2x15 is better for "impressive"! And it sounded AWESOME!
6.
This. I love playing in my acoustic duo where the tempos & feel of the song are not overly governed by a drummer. Quieter too :-)
This is my favourite thing. Keeping it simple.
7. Exactly. As opposed to, "What's that bloody noise?"
8.
Man, they gave in quick. Mine took 40+ years. Dad was dead and Mum admitted to it on her death bed that they could have helped me a bit, but didn't see a future in it.
Although my parents are both (just) still around, this resonates..except even when presented with evidence of some success, such "rubbish" was dismissed out of hand. Still is.
9. If it's labelled P-Bass Special, then it has a Jazz neck.
10. If you want Hipshots, email them. They're great at sorting what you want.
11. He does have another band of his own, so the occasional trio outing will happen occasionally. Next gig, in fact!
12. A Hash House Harriers annual bash - very good crowd of about 60, all willing to have fun and dance, and all in space-themed fancy dress! Quite a few Arthur Dents - bit of an easy option, methinks...
13.
No working band is going to hire a 64 year old bass player in my neck of the woods. Blue
This. Until The Rock n Roll Outlaws reformed, I was nowhere. Same age. So glad to be back at it with a band that gets offered gigs, rather than has to hunt them down...
14. If I had the wherewithal, I'd replace my Traveler 121H with one. That would give me a 3x12 4ohm rig!
15. Going to put these on my bitsa P. It sounds a bit stodgy compared with the Chromes on the other bass. However, they are nearly 30 months old, and have been slackened off a few times for neck swaps. Much as I love the BB414, it's a bit of a lump for me, and if these can boost the presence of the P, I'll be a happy man!
16.
Is that a real Fender?
It's the headstock of a 50s prototype of the Fender Electric Violin.
17. Straplocks, always. Just makes more sense.
18. Ah, now that's a gig! Ours, a 40th party, loads of people we know, so it went on a bit, but very enjoyable!
19. What I put in mine is the whole shebang, that's what goes out with me. Don't possess enough living space for any more, literally.
20. For me, it was the first time hearing any music on a half decent hifi. This would have been 1967, so Sgt Peppers got thrashed for a whole summer holidays. Along with Ars Longa, Vita Brevis by the Nice.
