My '87 JD was my main bass for 20 years until I went to 5-strings in 2007, and it's still with me getting the occasional run out. Superb neck - it took a long time to find a 5-string with an equivalently playable neck. I assume the OP's is from a transition period (though I don't know how long a period), as it's got the 2-piece bridge rather than the earlier one-piece Schaller, and a JAN I, but it has a carved rear to the headstock rather than the plain flat rear, and a separate battery compartment rather than the battery living in the control cavity as it dd later.

I was looking rather for a rechargeable, autonomous version, to be placed freely anywhere, with no cabling. The effect looks good, so I'll keep on looking.

I ended up going the splitter/mixer pedal route and just ordered one of these... Thanks for the tips. I'll be keeping a watch out for phasing anomalies.

I got one from AliExpress for about £40. Just went back, looked at the order and went to the item currently on sale - £140! The difference is the unheadstock end. The A type with the bigger lump has an integral adjustable nut and clamps concealed by the cover. The B type has five little clamp things so presumably you supply your own nut. The guitar equivalent of the A type is fitted to the Jamstik Studio MIDI guitar - https://jamstik.com/collections/midi-guitars/products/b-stock-of-jamstik-studio-midi-guitar?variant=45365173125345 There's a drawing of the A type unheadstock at https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007488329170.html

A mate had one of these in full form and even with the shonky “ABT” own brand pickups it was a burpy marvel - a very lovely thing; think he paid £100 for it. id persevere and spray it an obnoxious metallic orange or green neon once you’ve resolved its issues x

Ordered, thanks everyone! 🙏🏼

It's insane that such cheap stuff is so good. Saw them at a club and couldn't believe how effective they are.

Serginhobass started following PJ - Series/Parallel wiring
-
Hey everyone! I’m planning to rewire my Yamaha BBP35 (PJ configuration) and would love to get some feedback from those more experienced with bass wiring. Here’s what I’m aiming for: Volume: 250K push-pull pot (for series/parallel switching between P and J pickups) Blend: CTS EP-6386-000 500K MN taper pot Tone: ToneStyler Bass 10 My goal is to have: • Push in → pickups in parallel (standard PJ setup) • Pull up → pickups in series (fatter, more powerful tone) I’ve drawn up a wiring diagram showing how I think everything should connect, and I’ll include some photos of the pots I’m using. Before I start soldering, I’d really appreciate any feedback or corrections, especially around: • Whether my series/parallel switch wiring looks correct given both pickups only have two wires • How best to ground the blend pot and push-pull pot to avoid hum • Any other improvements or common pitfalls I should watch out for Thanks in advance for taking the time to look! I know a few of you have done similar PJ rewires, and I’d love to learn from your experience. 🙏

I was using D'Addario NYXL's and I was changing them yearly. What with Covid and a few other things the current set has been on my Jazz bass since 2019. They still have a little top end left but have mellowed into a really nice full, warm almost flats-like tone.

Never fear @Gank Bass as previously said, Titebond wood glue is your friend! That is a mere scratch compared to some of the saves made on this esteemed forum, including mine below 😎 You've already shown your skills on here, now I look forward to seeing how you transform this bass into something usable 👍🏼 Oh, and remember Build Diaries golden rule....pics or it didn't happen 😉 Good luck 🤞🏼😀

I ordered mine from here; https://meisterworks.myshopify.com/en-gb/collections/luminlay-products you can change the currency at top right of page to GBP

I'd been wondering about Markbass Strings - I'd seen somewhere that some of their sets are especially designed to be smooth to the touch, but I've also read reviews saying they can quickly and suddenly go very dead! I've bought a set of Pure Blues so I'll string up my Jazz bass with those again and see how long they last. At least I know I'll enjoy them for a few months! Coincidentally, I dug out another bass that I'd strung up with D'Addario XLs (nickel wound) in February and they're still really bright so maybe that's the way I should go, even though I don't particularly like the feel of them! It's all so complicated, isn't it?!!

It's a new pedal so I doubt anyone has any feedback on it? (No vids out there). But it seems quite intriguing to me, muff bassed (right up my street) with similar sounding features to a Darkglass Alpha Omicron https://www.andertons.co.uk/citadel-electronics-plutonium-overdrive-total-bass-annihilator-/
