  2. @kodiakblair To wrap up, one last question: what about the pickups, do you know which ones were the originals?
  3. Hi @kodiakblair, Thanks a lot for all your help and detailed info 🙏. I’ll try to track down the parts you mentioned and once I get everything together I’ll share some photos of how the bass turned out. Really appreciate your guidance! Regarding the control circuit, the bass is at a luthier right now so I can’t share photos, but I’m pretty sure the circuit has been modified.
  4. I'm slightly concerned about the slight buzz when the amp is on. The old 500 iii is dead quite. For kicks I asked an ai if this was a problem and it said it was not due to the some differences in the iii and iv. Anyone else encountering this or do I potentially have a problem, and maybe why it was returned and resold?
  5. There is that. But also, depending on how you like to attack your envelope filter, potential for tre compressor to even out its trippiness. So you may like to have two compressors!
  6. I wish we could invest in a good IEM solution. Unfortunately we recently investted in new floor wedges. Daryl
  7. I'm in the midwest of the u.s. now. Been making noises in the seclusion of my bedroom on and off since the 90's with a bass (and guitar). Only a few years back even got a proper bass amp, an Ampeg BA112 v2. Then a lil' Hartke HD25, and recently an old Peavey TNT 160 that has seen some things, and then more things. My basses are modest, a Harley Benton Beatbass VS that I've crudely rewired the control panel, and an Ibanez TMB100. Zoom B1 Four for effects. I just really like bass lines, played fingerstyle preferably.
  8. There's always 5-strings in the marketplace for sale because people have decided that they don't get on with them. You could see if anyone has one you fancy that they haven't managed to shift for a while and see if they'd go with your idea of a long-term swap while their 5-string rises in value due to being a classic and because more people see the benefits of a 5-string.
  9. We noticed that in a recent Youtube video of someone singing to backing tracks, the pool table wasn't there, and we were rather hoping it was gone forever as we're back there on the 10th of October. So it hasn't gone then. At the risk of triggering you, and for the benefit of the masses, this was it when we were there last. There's a door to the toilets just to the right but they can also be accessed via a little passageway so we just stick our gear in the way. There is a vast array of fans hanging off the wall so at least you keep cool. Don't forget, they've seen me gig there several times with different bands, so they might have assumed that all bassists have the same facial expressions as me.
  10. Sounds Like A Good Time - Payton Smith
  11. I found as a kid that the performances for 3 plus cat translated straight to jumping on stage and performing for all the other kids and their families, no cats. 1st night excitement with any new project is still a thing for me but knowing what I can play is key.
  12. Digital IEM mixers, like the Behringer XR18 or Soundcraft UI24 are popular with enough mono outs for small bands. The bands I'm in don't use them yet, though one band uses this stereo IEM system I put together. Some bandmates prefer wired IEMs, others wireless.
  13. Ah, yes, that's when the invoices for the first instalments start coming. ...

  15. Lots of good tips here especially the ones regarding practicing the song. In my experience I could never stop the nerves beforehand but once I started to play at my first few gigs I realised the audience aren't actually watching me like hawks and scrutinising my every move like I feared. There's other people on the stage too and they're on your side, and with doing just one song it'll be over before you know it! I hope it goes well for you, the first one is daunting so good on you for getting up there nerves or not.
  16. that's obviously on a active circuit. The Bill Lawrence link looks interesting. He's also a legend and I'm an idiot so don't listen to me. The G&L OMG switch is actually series mode - so naturally way louder with more bass and treble - and then using a capacitor to take off the treble - leaving the massive bottom end to bother the PA! If I had known now what I know now I would have bought a HPF to take off the subs and kept that L1000
  17. Looks like I'm making headway into liking all 5,000,000 Basschat posts.....I've just been made a "Grand Master" (whatever that is? 🤷‍♂️) 🤣🤣
  18. it's not difficult to do on a circuit, depending on how it's powered there will be a resistor to ground before the first input stage, change that and it changes the input resistance. something like this before the first IC ... gives you three difference impedances. (R1 and R27, and R2 and R26, can be combined - I just split them into two to take advantage of JLCPCB's cheaper SMD reisistors) So in this case 20M with switch in middle or 3.33M or 1.4M in left or right positions... (except there's other things going on in this circuit so it will end up 10M, 1.67M and 700k )
  19. It's been decades since I've last seen *anything* Selmer in such a nice shape... That amp is well-worth repairing, IMO. Jack Bruce used one of these on early Cream recordings from what I can recall. I'd leave the cabinets "as found" since I doubt that a proper re-cone kit is available for either of those speakers. Let the next owner decide what they want to do with them... And yes, The Music Locker would be the place that I'd be seeking advice from if I wanted tp sell a somewhat unusual vintage amp in the UK... My $0.02 only... Good luck.
  20. You still have time to invest in a life-size cut-out of three humans and a cat. Prop this up in front of you, on stage; you'll not see the other folk there, just your familiar audience. ... No, seriously, all the tips above work a treat, so you'll be fine. Beware, of course. You may find that you enjoy it all so much you'll want to play 'live', in public, more and more. In that case, start a band.
  21. Hmm, the Trace Bag is OK for carrying the amp but it doesnt do much in terms of protection, do let us know how you find the Gator ........
  22. Great looking set of Selmers, including covers! If you need any advice or want to consider valuation / selling it all I would recommend contacting Jono at The Music Locker in Derby. I have no affiliation with him at all, but sold some old cabinets to him a while ago and found him helpful and fair. Tel 07970061897. http://[email protected]
  23. In this case, I'd be going used Mike Lull P&J.
  24. A Trombonist friend of mine had some great comedy business cards in the 90s. They said something like; "Rich Thomas, Test Rockets Flown, Battles Fought, Races Won, Virgins Enlightened, Bars Quaffed Dry, & All Round Good Guy!"
  25. No, these run off internal 9v battery only, and are always on (no footswitch). I had our very own @bremen rehouse mine in a standard pedal enclosure adding a 9v input and a true bypass footswitch.
  26. Recently I ordered some cards from Printed.com I needed quickly. Pricing looked good so I went throught the process of artwork / create account / upload / payment details etc etc. Got to the very end and the price for 250 had gone up from £21 to £30 🤔 I hadn't realised the initial price was ex-VAT (which was also added to the shipping cost) No idea on the quality of them as they havent arrived yet.
  27. I bought a pedal from Si, it arrived about 22 hours after I paid for it, must be a record! Fantastically well packed too. Unsurprisingly given his contributions to the forum Si is a great guy to deal with, thank you!
