  2. I'd definitely buy this if I hadn't bought the lovely Bryant from @bassace six months ago!
  3. Does the same thing happen with the neck pup on full, and rolling the bridge vol down? It's normal as the pups are wired in parallel. Enjoy your GSR180.
  4. Yeah, but I've pulled the trigger if she had a string less...
  5. Broke and Hungry — Blind Lemon Jefferson
  6. I've an American Fender Precision here that I can't be cheered about. Doesn't matter what controls, pickups and strings I fit, I just don't like the sound of a P. The problem is it's a looker and I don't really need the money I'd get from selling it. I'm a Jazz bass / Ric guy really, and they fulfil my needs perfectly. Maybe if I re-join a band in the future it'll have it's place in the mix. For the moment, it's stored away..
  7. You are, apparently, unable to differentiate between irony, satire and sarcasm. You need to go back and read the thread. Other posters referenced shouting at asylum hotels ect. as a benchmark of the unacceptable. That's why I mentioned it. FWIW, I'm not having a go at you. I don't know why you would think I was. I think you are posing a very interesting question. I'm trying to give you a nuanced answer, i.e it's not someone's opinions so much as how stupid or smart, charmless or charming the person expressing them is whether I could play in a band with them. So if it was Morrissey I could put up with a lot. If it was Jim Davidson, less so.
  8. great preamp I use it a lot , good luck with the sale
  9. Money's Too Tight To Mention - Simply Red
  10. The theme of bullying is interesting in terms of the current economic and political situation. I think a lot of workers, particularly on the lower pay scales feel bullied. They feel powerless to change anything and victimised. Add social media to this and you get a toxic circle of reinforcement. The really bizarre thing (for me personally) is they are looking to elect even bigger bullies as a solution to their problems.
  11. I wouldn't be in a band with someone who has bigoted views. Several years ago I almost joined a band which was newly forming where the keyboard player told an unpleasant racist joke at the first rehearsal. This was the first time any of the band members had met each other and he probably felt that it was safe as everyone in the room was a white male old enough to remember the 70s. He was also more 'Jools Holland' than 'Booker T', overplaying rinky-dink piano over everything and polluting my sonic space with his left hand. I wouldn't be in a band with bigots like JK Rowking or Graham Lineham either.

  13. I have had the pleasure of hearing @Merton play this live and it sounds very nice indeed. Also he's a throughly decent chap, so there's two great reasons to consider this.
  14. The Cost Of Living - Don Henley
  15. I'm going to the Netherlands in Nov 😁
  16. Over the years I've commissioned a number of custom builds. My three drivers have been: Light weight Unusual materials Distinctive body shape and/or configuration Effectively that list translates into the single concept: Not Easily Found Elsewhere. There is also recognition there that this is not about price, or about being able to recover my "investment" later. If that was a significant issue for me (and of course it is for most people, I do realise that) then I'd just stick to buying pre-CBS Fenders ... boring, but reliable. Back when I bought a series of basses from @Prosebass (who I believe no longer does custom builds) I actually did OK on resale and I recovered most of the money, but in my head at the time it was money spent, not money invested. I've never bought one of @Beedster's bitsas, nice as I know them to be, nor anyone else's, simply because Fender clones are very easily found at every possible price point, every possible quality level, and in every possible configuration. I don't need to have one custom-made just for me; the one I want is already out there and available on Basschat, Reverb, eBay or somewhere in Guang-Zhou. But if I want an uber-lightweight active 5-string fretless then I call up @Andyjr1515, which is exactly what I did. If I were to want (yet another) aluminium bass, or a cheap(er) copy of something by an exotic, high-end luthier then I'd consider commissioning a build. Otherwise, no.
  17. Starting a project is more likely. I've found interesting bands are harder to come by as you get older. Unless you know a large network of likeminded people already. Sites like Bandmix haven't cut it. I'm just not sure it's even possible at my age. This is uncharted territory for me. But I appreciate all the suggestions!
  18. Yes, I have loads of experiences in the workplace from the corporate centre of a FTSE100. I spent a lot of time with HR supporting reports and team members on incidents of racism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, anti-tattoo views, general bullying. I call it out and fight all the way. One particular director managed to tick all the boxes but was defended because he was Chinese and "it's part of their culture" even though the company policy was that anyone's culture didn't override policy. I acknowledge that when you're doing anything for a living, have limited choices and need the remuneration, it influences decisions. Although prolonged exposure to those sort of environments takes an emotional toll.
  19. ***PRICE DROP NOW £1300*** 2010 US Stingray, 2EQ, CAR with rosewood board. One of the limited edition 133 basses, full fat ‘ray but with a soft gig bag case instead of a hard shell job. This is in excellent condition with one very minor ding on the top edge, and the pickguard is quite marked but obviously easily replaceable. Comes with a Hipshot D-tuner (long key though instead of short… doh), if you want the original tuner key I’ll chuck it in. I’ve also replaced the pickup with a Nordstrand MM4.2, which sounds flippin’ great. She’s quite heavy (10lb) but with a decent wide strap it feels ok. ***EDIT*** now comes with the option of a Warwick Rockbass semi-rigid case - photos added. Loathe to post this but can at buyer’s (insured) expense, or can meet in person at either Portsmouth, Southsea, Southampton or Lymington (I’m on the I.O.W.)

  20. Hi Terry I’ve not had any issues in that respect, I know the original owner had an issue he didn’t like with the original preamp and so changed it to a Glockenlang which is still in it.
  21. We had a keyboard player once who was always on about "workshy dolies", and was very conservative in his views... So long as he hadn't been on the Stella he tended not to shout very much about looney lefties or whatever, but never ever appeared racist. However, he also bought the Daily Star every day, and after he'd left the band started going on about how we'd all be under Sharia Law soon. And this ranting rose as he came more under the Spell of Stella - soon he was unable to work anymore and could only afford White Lightning. At about this time he also informed me that he'd been playing with Lily Allen, but as he wasn't very handsome they kept him behind a curtain (though I knew for a fact that he hadn't left Swansea, and wasn't very good as a keyboard player either!). And he was also thrown out of the covers band he was in for unreliability, drunken-ness and being too aggressive. However, he'd always been quite unhappy and blamed others for his self-inflicted misfortunes. So while I wouldn't have played with him in a band again, I sympathised with how his life had completely gone down the toilet. He died aged 62 as a result of his booze'n'fags regime.
  22. This. Exactly. These days, if you have an opinion opposite to 'the herd' [no matter how considered and well thought out], you're automatically labelled a racist, bigot, or some kind of fringe lunatic. Back to the point at hand though, our beliefs, no matter how extreme or otherwise, have nothing to do with the music we play together. We're there to entertain either ourselves, each other or an audience. Politics should never come into it. If people can't separate their beliefs from what's truly important, they need to get over themselves and get a life. It's good to have principles, but please, keep them to yourselves. The music is more important.
  23. This is my MIK Spector Q4 pro, it’s in pretty much spotless condition, there are no marks I am aware of on this bass. I bought it from BassBros a while back and love it, however I have just purchased another (sadly, more expensive Spector ) so this has to go. It’s set up lovely, sounds just like a Spector should, it has the EMGHZ twin soap bar pickups and the EMG BTS circuit and this model has a non curved body. It’s a lovely bass. I do have packaging or collection or meet within 1hr drive of Milton Keynes. Any questions, just ask. Cheers Steve
