All routed and slight comfort carve. Next stage will be black grain filler then Liberon Finishing Oil. Not sure whether to just fill the wenge or do the elm as well? I went with a 6.5 mm radius round over for this one instead of the usual 12.7mm.

Thank you and yep, I trust you guys in the know to keep me right. I know double basses well, but these wee things are not my department. The info I included, as you’ll see, comes from Brian’s original listing + the opinion of a reputable vintage guitars trader here in Scotland, who was kind enough to drop me some knowledge. Basically, I think that Brian’s original valuation of £1500 reflects the value of this bass in terms of professional quality, but a bit of a mix and match between original features and later embellishments. Any less than that, I think it’s a great deal, but I know times are hard for musicians (probably for most people), otherwise I wouldn’t be selling.

The guitar features an original neck shape and Dinky-shaped body that the artist was particularly particular about, and the electric section is equipped with an Ultra Noiseless™ Vintage Jazz Bass® pickup and the latest preamp, inheriting the playability and sound quality of the previous model. In addition, a new feature not available in the previous model is the inclusion of a thin pickguard of approximately 1.0 mm sandwiched under the gold anodized pickguard of approximately 1.2 mm, which gives the same playing feel as a 3-ply pickguard while maintaining the same appearance.’ One of my Feedback links. https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/137382-feedback-for-harry/#comment-1241408

Left handed Basses, especially Jazz basses. They are just the mirror image of the right handed ones but they look gross! -
Cultural appropriation and covers

Good point. I was taught a martial art by a Malaysian Master and his student. It has Chinese, Korean, Okinawan and Japanese roots (see here https://tangsoudao.com/history-and-background/) but the style was actually developed in the UK. Read that link, it's a massive history of cultural appropriation in the Far East, if you want to take it that way. -

Hahaha, that was my first though when I saw @Iheartreverb's reply. Happy hunting in Glasgow. I'm looking forward to the NBD thread already! -

Given that George Harrison sought the tutelage of Ravi Shankar, I don't think anyone could call it appropriation, it was more of a gift to him -

Aww man don’t be saying things like that. This Charcoal is my absolute favourite p bass colour. I’m thinking of driving over to Glasgow to try one at guitar guitar. I’ve no business tempting myself but I’ve been very impressed with the road worn series having owned an original series jazz RW which I loved but got nicked, a JMJ (twice) and my main bass, a Flea jazz. I’m not usually picky but would love to find a really light one in charcoal 🤞🏼for Glasgow. -

Just saw this. As someone who owned a Bass 400+ back in the day (probably the best-sounding bass head I ever owned), I love the look of it and I'm looking forward to trying one out. Now, how can I persuade them to make a lightweight version of the old 1516 cab?

Is that 48cm at the longest point, i.e. down the middle of the surfboard? A 43 x 29 blank like this would give you 51cm corner-to-corner.

The phrase "above and beyond" comes to mind. Ted was kind enough to meet me half way to make a deal for his MarkBass cab, and i cant thank him enough for that. Top man. Much appreciated. Thanks Ted

Ultra rare 32" medium scale Squier JV Jazz, made in Japan 1982-1984. This is a quality vintage instrument. Fantastic clear sound. Very easy to play with a nice low action. Weighs approx 3.5kg. Even though its medium scale, it doesnt feel like the frets size make it difficult to play at all. I'm looking for trades, but only with a passive P type bass. I can make a cash adjustment for the right bass. Bonus points for a J neck. What ya got? I can courier, but it comes with all the normal risks. Any other questions just give me a shout.

Strings Direct have them listed on their site, when I enquired in April they had none in stock and no idea if they would be able to obtain any more, their site still states “coming soon”. Looking at other website forums, it would appear that Musicman cannot source the original input sockets, they were manufactured by a third party and they are no longer in business, the one Musicman offer on their site is not like for like and has to be modified to fit.

I played the charcoal P the other day and was honestly blown away. I was ready to be critical given the price, also not a P bass expert either. Both being said, it was light, resonant, felt great quality. The roadworn nature was subtle, tasteful and detailed. Really really impressed.
