Looking forward to giving this a whirl at practice later. I mainly need a couple of drive options, but I just can't leave home without an octaver of some sort! Broughton BBA and a power bank underneath, but I'm most pleased to have found a new home for the broken watch I found on my desk!

parker_knoll started following Rackmount tube pres that break up
-
Hi all I've been running Ampeg SVT 4 and the related SVP Pro for a long time, both for guitars and basses, primarily in recording. BUT I can't get the SVT/P pre to break up, even with the gain on full using passive pickups. Yes, the SVP Pro has a "Drive" knob but honestly it sounds crappy and I suspect it's just diode clipping. I'm looking for natural tube clipping. I get annoyed using dirt pedals because they always fundamentally change the tonality of the sound. Are there rack tube pres that will break up a bit? I'm not looking for much, just some crunch. Never had the chance to try a Demeter, TBP-1, Aguilar etc. so I'm looking for recommendations. Thanks

Thanks - that's the exact same one as I am using for gigs. The home use PSU is another Chinese brand. But let me see if I can replace that with another Fidus one.

What's the going rate for Stingrays nowadays?
drTStingray replied to Supernaut's topic in General Discussion
To be more accurate, Musicman contracted CLF (yes, also a Leo Fender company) to manufacture the instruments - there ensued a dispute as Musicman rejected a lot of instruments, some of which were refinished by CLF before they were deemed acceptable - the final straw was the manufacture of a batch of Stingray necks incorrectly with inoperable truss rods. After that Musicman transferred the manufacture to Charvel, and the quality improved significantly. When Ernie Ball took over they improved some elements (for example pick up winding) to improve consistency of product and thus quality. However Pre EB basses are pretty consistent and certainly compared with comparable Fenders. -

I’d quite like to find My First EB Musicman Stingray Serial No. B03721. Manufactured Sep.10 1996 Listed as Sunburst Stingray Maple neck. 3 EQ Purchased new in September 1996, yep just a few days old, in Manny's Music, New York. I sold it a few years later on eBay to a lady in Scotland as a Christmas gift for her boyfriend. Ring any bells, anyone? -

Lovely Sadowsky Metroexpress 5 string for sale. I got this in trade last year from Josh of this parish and as lovely as it is the project I thought id use it on hasn't materialised and I never get on with 5 strings. Josh's advert below which i hope he doesn't mind me sharing again. Blurb from Thomann below: Sadowsky MetroExpress 24-5 Modern MA SS – Thomann UK https://share.google/Zy6PTRkrYTeyTEmm8 Advertised at the price I traded it for. Plays beautifully and is pretty much mint with a lovely Sadowsky gig bag tools and case candy and strap locks etc. Trials welcome at Downend in Bristol. I could post at buyers cost and risk but would much rather collection or meet up. I travel fairly often from Bristol to Hook in Hampshire or Solihull and occasionally to Sidcup so meets along M4 M5 or M25 South may be possible.

I will meet you halfway? Come on you know you want too!!

I could never get on with the change in tension on the E string. Standard E string dropped to D was far too floppy for my tastes. A heavier E string that felt OK in D was too stiff when tuned to E. Since I switched to 5-strings for "normal" bass and don't need drop D on my Bass VIs I've been OK. I do have two guitars with different gauge E strings for standard tuning and drop D though. YMMV.

Thanks. Unfortunately Allen & Heath don't involve themselves in repairs "please note that all service and repair enquiries will be routed to our distribution partners" and given that it is out of 12 month warranty, I'm going to struggle to get them interested. Maybe a possible angle under the Sale of Goods Act with Andertons, but this was bought as B-stock which they have 3 month return / warranty cover policy, and they will no doubt seek to argue wear & tear? Which I guess ties in with Woody's comment above. Update: I have, however, raised an enquiry with A&H and sent them a clip of the desk spiking with no inputs, which I posted on the previous page of this thread. Will let you all know what they say in response. I would very much love to hear from warwickhunt what PSU make and model he is using with his desk?

Well, it should be fit for purpose for a period that would be reasonable of its type, which probably in this case is at least 3 years. However, as it is a refurbed unit I am not sure how that plays out
