  3. The thinking behind his is that one can literally try out the features for oneself, tweaking in real time to see if the device works, rather than people having someone else make the decision for them. For people who just want to use existing presets, they can simply load them up into Soundcheck and audition them to hear if they provide inspiration/usability and cut out the middleman.
  4. I saw Rod Stewart at Ashton Gate in Bristol a couple of years ago. The bassist was using a vintage sunburst P bass. You couldn't hear it at all. I saw Donny Benet this Saturday. Again, P bass. the mix was better but his bass was noticeably less audible than when I saw him previously using a PJ F Bass. The snare and Bass drum were incredibly loud - judging by how softly the drummer was playing he seemed to be aware of it too. The best sounding gig I've seen recently was Mike Stern with Hadrien Feraud on bass and Dennis Chambers on drums. Hadrien and Mike just went through their amps with no IEMS - great sound - everything was crystal clear. Of course I'm aware how such a set-up wouldn't work on a bigger stage.
  5. I do. Obviously there’s some overlap between sounds but each brings something a little different.
  6. I had a look. All very interesting but seems a lot of bother. I generally look for gear and FX reviews on youtube. Youtube makes it quick and easy to find demos, and make comparisons to similar products. Also some give very honest and reliable reviews that help to understand how inspiring and useable the sounds are? I suspect the Source Audio marketing team won't like me very much.
  7. The modern approach of having the kick drums amazingly loud is so annoying. It just kills everything else in the same freq range. Seems to be infecting more and more genres too. It used to just be modern metal, but now it's everywhere.
  8. This is brand new, unused, still in the original packaging. Nice bag and well padded. Internal dimensions are approx. 50cm x 32cm x 10cm. Price includes postage. Rob

  14. Being mean, I found the best way to do this was not to spend any money and do strengthening exercises every morning at home - currently doing a mixture of pilates and yoga, with crunchies (mmm!), press ups, squats (50lbs on a bar), curls and a few other bit'n'bobs . It does add getting on for 1/2 hour to my getting up routine, but no bad back for around 15 years...
  15. I kind of agree with you but I would take even a step forward and say an arena type concerts you can hear the bass drum loud and clear but the bass guitar gets buried for some reason. A few years back I saw the who right after John Entwistle died and Pino Palladino took his place. It was such a waste as I could not hear anything he was playing over the drums.
  16. Karma Sutra Police - Radiohead
  17. 1 rack unit is gone so the only one left is the lower one in the photos. For sale is my used but not abused EMS 500 19" rack case. The rack is currently assembled as 6U but can be reconfigured as 3U, 6U simply by removing some bolts and panels - 10 min job! You can also configure it so the top removes for mixers. The rack is currently assembled to a board with castors which isn't included in the sale and will be removed before shipping.........unless you really, really want it and then it would be an extra £20 and whatever the increased postage is. These are quite special cases as they are modular construction where you can increase or decrease the number of rack spaces by easily adding or removing side and end panels. All you need is an allen key! You can also use them with a mixer installed in the top and the top panel can be easily removed! See the photo of how I had the units set up for my band PA. (None of the rack equipment is included.) All catches etc are in good condition. Rack to rack depth is 48cm. Weight per 6U assembly is 18lbs / 8.2kg. See the attached brochure for more details. The 6U Gator version of this case weighs 13lbs so slightly lighter but is NOT as rigid, road resilient or has the flexiblity options. As these are modular I would propose they are dismantled and flat packed for shipping to reduce the cost. I'll give details on how to re-assemble if you need but its quite straight forward. I've estimated UK postage to be £15 per unit. 6U Rack Unit 2 - the lower 6U rack unit in the photos on its own - £90 / Board with castors - £20 / Both together £100. Shipping Extra EMS.pdf
  18. I have just gone through a lot of my studio / PA gear and removed the excess insert and patch cables etc. and have gathered together quite a collection of connectors. Some of the items are brand new never been used but all are in great condition and fully functional. I could be persueded to a bulk buy reduction. Postage would be based on how many and destination. The table below gives as much info on model / style as I know.
  19. For sale is my Smooth Hound wireless system in great condition complete with power supply / adaptors and instructions. This was a backup to my other Smooth Hound unit so hasn't had much use. Postage for the UK would be £5. Website is here.

  20. For sale is my TC Electronic GMajor-2 multi effects unit in fully working condition and updated to the latest firmware. Pictures show it in its usual rack home (rack not included). Although most of the standard effects are aimed at the guitarist I have found the compressor, gate, flanger, phaser and octaver (up and down) etc. to be very useable for bass. I can either factory reset before shipping or leave the presets I have created intalled. It has built in EQ, noise gate, compressor, reverbs, delays, wahs, octaver, tremolo, phaser, flanger etc each of which can be switched in / out from the front panel as required. I have been using this via my amps effects loop and found the compressor (and all the effects) just add their effect without changing the fundamental sound of the bass. Comes with original box and operating manual. You can use the unit in your DAW as well as with your bass / guitar etc. Patches can be easily selected from the front panel or attach a midi-pedal (I used a MidiMoose). There is also some Vyzor software you can download from the net which allows you to interface your PC with the GMajor-2 to edit and backup your user patches. I have also attached the GMajor-2 and Vyzor manuals below. tc_electronic_g-major_2_manual_english.pdfVyzor_G-Major2_Quick-Start.pdf I estimate UK shipping about £10 to £15.
  21. This might be a bit tangential but I have noticed from attending gigs over the last few years that P basses really tend to disappear in modern mixes (I'm talking decent sized gigs with a professional PA/soundman, not how bad your own P bass sounds down the Dog and Duck before anyone takes offence). I don't think this is a fault of the P bass but of the way everything is mixed these days (all subs/bass drum, very little midrange). The whole reason the P sits in a recorded mix so well is due to its low midrange presence, and when these frequencies are not given enough prominence the sound turns to mud. Of course, while we should aim our ire at the soundmen or spectators who actually think that kind of mix sounds good, an easier solution would be to use a bass with a bridge pickup. Even with a rubbish mix you're more likely to hear some of the bass come through.
