It's a Thorens deck I have here in Scotland with a SME 2000 arm with a Shure cartridge, I inherited it from my late uncle and he bought it in the early 70's also inherited his record collection. It plays very good still, just before he passed he got himself a Marantz CD player, he was 87 at the time. Back home in Belgium, while I do have a deck it is a cheap digital one from Akai, mainly I play bluray audio or DVD-A or stream if I have to.

Hi Ron. I'll have a look around, to see if I can find something suitable. It's compact & lightweight, and the gigbag / case is pretty good However, protecting an acoustic instrument from being thrown around etc is my worry. I recently ordered a freezer - just in time for Xmas.... but it arrived in a rather battered state! Pieces falling out everywhere! If they can destroy something mostly made of metal... you get my drift. Anyhow, I'll have a scout around, see if I can find something suitable/ sturdy enough. It's a crying shame this isn't being used. If I hadn't acquired my beautifully made Jabba X-short scale, I'd have hung on to this. Cheers

Next for us is the musical Top Hat at the Kings in Glasgow, we were there in October for Riverdance, my wife has been waiting decades to see Riverdance so I had booked tickets in 2024 for the show, it was very good, the music and the dancing, it was very percussive overall. We will try and take in a folk music evening too, we had a good evening at one in Garelochhead last September, we don't get back to Scotland that often so we do try and pack in as many events as we can. Kinda wish my uncle was still around he was very much part of the music scene in the Glasgow area - have flute will travel - he knew where to go, and I have been away abroad so long I have lost touch.

Proving beyond reasonable doubt that I’m just not normal, I really like the Ashdown cabs, the ABMs especially so. I have had a fair few and do think that since the EVO-4 range they’ve really improved. They are a fair bit bassier than what comes out of the DI which in the past suited me as my sound had a fair bit of twang/gain/aggression to FOH so having a warmer presence on stage worked nicely, with FOH not having too many uncontrollable lows sent to them.

One other thought - would you expect it to make any difference if the channel gains are reduced across the piece and the FoH gain boosted?

I would never use any wireless system for recording, no matter how fancy/expensive it is. It's not as if you need to be mobile when recording, is it? So why introduce the potential for noise/latency/dropouts? I use several pairs of Lekato WS-70 wireless bugs. They're UHF, so probably running on an illegal frequency band, but I honestly don't care - they're so short range in the grand scheme of things that they're never going to annoy emergency services or ham radio enthusiasts. They've been so handy - obviously being mobile during gigs is a lot of fun - audiences love it when I do a walkabout into the crowd/round the pub. Also have used them to link the desk to the PA speakers or wedges in venues where cable runs require shares in a gaffer tape factory to make safe. I have three sets, so I'm covered in case I forget to charge a pair, or to be able to do handy stuff like the PA shenanigans above. Had all three running simultaneously on the same stage with no issues.

That really is the weakest definition of AI - ie, its AI in the same way as a spreadsheet is AI. But that is the trouble now, marketing is putting everything done on a computer as AI, as by some definition it is. I would just call that a database. Or probably more normally Big Data.
