It’s a left over from double bass gamba origins. The set up including the new bridge on the GagIiano was the work of the late great Roger Dawson. I remember that he said Rinat asked for modern 4 string spacing on the 3 string bridge. The bridge on the Da Salo is reputedly the original that was in place when Dragonetti played it. That style of bridge was not just used on 3 string instruments, here is an ancient 4 string bridge. The holes in this bridge were for a gut string restraint tied to the tailpiece, to keep the bridge in place when tuning.

Check if the PCBA has any metal debris or burned areas (both sides). Is the speaker dis/connected? Any faulty connections? Test the speaker element functionality with a battery.

Thanks Tony, I know if I were closer I'd be beating a path to your door. Re volume, this is the crux of the matter, and without understanding it's capabilities first, it's a risk. My band has been making every attempt to play quieter in recent months. The band is relatively new, coming up 2 years since we first talked about this project, and only 18 month since our very first gig, and we set off very enthusiastically allowing and tolerating everyone doing their thing, including the drummer. Now, he's a lovely guy, we're all firm friends now, and we love him to bits, but he can get a little bit excited. He's brilliant though, one of the best drummers I've ever played with (he's played the Royal Albert Hall, twice!). Thankfully, we can talk openly about these things, and some recent gigs have been sublime in their understatement and power. We did do The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival last month, and I think because we were on a big stage with PA, monitors and engineers, he thought he could go for it a bit more. But it was in fact the opposite of what he should have done. The gig was still ok, but the drums on stage were too loud. The top and bottom of this dilemma is that if I can reign in the drummer I think I'll be ok, if not, then I think I'll need more oomph than the PF-50T can deliver. I do so wish I could take you up on your offer Tony! Rob -
… what Moog do you have out of curiosity? Also what sort of effects do you use with it? I’ve a Moog Subsequent 25 (and a Bass Station 2) and not sure what kind of board to build for them? I know it’ll be music dependant, but just to point me in the right direction lol!

I can report that if Neck Diving was an Olympic event, this Hamer would be the 12-string bass version of Tom Daley and bring home multiple Golds. It's a true champ 🥇 But we knew that anyway.

Did you get paid in wine?

I'll edit for him now. I could give him Kelvin and totally confuse him. 😂 Dave

Truss rod adjustment - the hierarchy of horror

You didn't mention how useful a torque wrench can be, especially with two rods. -
No that’s great stuff, I’m fairly novice on fretless so I have taken your advice and found that playing slightly flat is really helping. I dropped the bass off today at Chapel Guitars after a very spirited drive across some lovely countryside. Steve is great and totally understood what I wanted. Electronics, shielding and pickup correction all fine, and the neck options: I’ll keep the ebony fretless mustang neck as-is. But I’m going to have the original neck defretted and coated. It’s a really nice piece of rosewood so it’ll look lovely, and it’ll be nice to use the original neck. I can compare both anyway and see. We’re going to try a nitro coating to bring out the look of the wood.

Dave, you'll need to provide Fahrenheit temperatures for Daryl.

About tension: if you just change a G to a B, the tension may be very much equal. I use D'Addario tension chart, and there you can see that a suitable B has similar tension than a G.

This is the third battery box replacement I've done in the last couple of years. One was an Ibanez, one my maple-board Spector and now this. I've never had an issue with the batteries in the cavity!

If there's a lot of metallic powder around, put the magnet to a plastic box. Everything sticks to the surface, and when you remove the magnet, well, you got the idea.

The magnetic field is pretty wide but weakens really fast. Therefore if the sound is fine, just go and play.

Here’s a very nice unmolested MIJ P bass, very good condition for a 35 year old bass and plays beautifully. A few minor marks which are shown in pics. Serial no. and prefix dates it to 1990. Weight is just over 8lbs using the rather less than accurate bathroom scales method – but basically it’s pretty light. I’ve retired from playing and have been selling off equipment and accessories and now, sadly, this has to find a new home also. You can check my profile, you’ll see I’ve been a regular contributor to the BC forum for a long time. Sensibly priced, only a soft case (a decent one) on offer with it, so it will be collection only. I’m based at Chichester, West Sussex, but I have family at Woking and Putney in London so the bass could be picked up from either of these places also. Thanks for looking.
