Something more challenging this time. The tune is called 'The Thumb' and is a solo bass feature from the 2015 John Patitucci record 'Brooklyn'. The greatest challenge is the range of the piece and the fact that there are lots of passages which are written 8va. Might take a while to figure it out. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/the-thumb-john-patitucci/

I think the bass might be a Burns Artist https://soundgas.com/products/burns-artist-bass-guitar?srsltid=AfmBOor-CVuWHDuAKqDzUkD7YVDgNfLasNKGheeUcQC571e3c2v-Tyjy

That must be lovely in black, yes those Dimarzios are the beast....
-
I've also got a 5000 in black (again with a fully formed neck heel). Really nice bass to play. Brutal pickup, I think it's a Dimarzio?
-
Yes, they must have changed it, but as you say, it looks like theres a bit of damage there- also the centre lamination on the neck heel looks weird. Either the finish has gone a bit funny or maybe its been damaged and repaired?

I don't think it's a Rapier. They have bigger scratch plates and rounder headstocks. Maybe something along the lines of a Tiesco or Silvertone would be my guess, but I can't think of a model that looks like any of those.

I've got a set of HotRod Nightrain P+J handwound, UK made pickups by Eternal Guitars. This pair is meant to recreate the Duff McKagan tone from the classic GnR era. It's an Eternal Thumper P pickup and an Eternal '84 J. These are very rock-oriented pickups and sound huge. I'm selling because all I seem to have is really hot pickups in everything. I'm replacing these with more vintage, much less hot pickups. These currently sell for £255. They're not sold as a Nightrain these days but you can buy them individually: https://www.eternal-guitars.com/product-page/jb-84-jazz-bass-pickup https://www.eternal-guitars.com/product-page/pb-thumper-precision-bass-pickup The original design of these pickups was done by Andy at Wizard pickups who sold his designs and equipment to Eternal.

I got my cello aged 12. It only opened a seam when I started uni age 19 and moved to a cold damp bedsit. Then did it again 12 years later when I moved to Seoul. 8 years is nowt to a stringed instrument. They don't like house moves!

Isn’t this what Nash guitars do? Except give it a “finish”
