  2. Anthony Jackson's part on the tune 'Looking Up' from the 1989 Michel Petrucciani album, 'Music'. Another transcription I am proud of. 5 or 6 hours work but what a learning opportunity! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/looking-up-michel-petrucciani/
  3. Such a cool idea but at £200 for my full board itd probably be better to invest in a decent pedal case. 🫠
  4. Found the other set of john east knobs which will come with it.

  6. Well Sandberg finally replied to my email. The Electra VS4 no longer has the active/ passive feature. I pointed out that their website states it has and got an apologetic reply saying this was an error and they’d correct it. 👍😊
  7. Anyways I have had the bass tube screamer for a few days and I love it, work the gain about 11 o clock and the blend(mix) set to 9 o clock it nails that very slightly overdriven bass tone I was after and the bass knob compensates for any loss of low end. The band all said that my bass sounded great too.
  8. I used a 6x10 and route master in a pirate. Was fabulous! I get why they’ve gone to 500w rumbles though if that’s what bands are doing. I guess they aren’t using hearing protection either… that’s a recipe for serious hearing loss. Sad.
  9. Some medium scale basses (I'm referring to my Alembic Series I) are a pain in the a$$ when choosing strings: having separate bridge and tailpiece, normal medium scale string sets are too short and regular long scale sets are too long (winding on the tuner post).
  10. Here's an example of what can be had, on FB.
  11. I've no idea what 'Taranis' means but apparently this was a bass designed for metal. Not that I used it for that and it sounded great for the more mellow stuff i've been using it for of late, very woody! EDIT Just found that Taranis is a Celtic god of thunder. The four string variant was tuned BEAD.

  14. Ive just had this happen to me recently. Got the Ampeg SGT-DI and although my WS90’s work fine most of the time, when the preamp is disengaged and the IR is on, my WS90 picks up all sorts of noise. Really loudly. Even when off. Cable and 2.4ghz Xvive’s are fine. Even with my EBS Microbass 3, just having the WS90 plugged in and putting my had close give a sound simply to when a cable is unplugged. When it’s on it s fine. Might be a faulty receiver. Again, no issues with the Xvive.
  15. yeah, if I'd had any serious inquires I'd have sorted photos - I think I'm going to have to take the commission hit and sell it via a dealer.
  16. I guess the principle is that BVs should be secondary in prominence to the lead vox. But that will always depend on: - how strong the singers are relatively (key variable); - what mics they are using. Given the first of these, not sure it's possible to give a general rule?

  18. Ducky, being as you're playing in a confined space at the moment, you only want something small for the time being. Maybe a small Laney combo, or a Roland Cube 100, or the super lightweight Fender Rumble 100. Bear in mind though, that these will need upgrading when you come to play with others in the future. So if you want to future-proof yourself, as it were, maybe the correct answer ia a used TC Electronic BG250 combo. These come in three variations, either a 12", 15", or 2 x 10" speaker(s) and can be had for around £2-300 used. Have fun!
  19. Yeah he's taking his own Sansamp just in case no one else has a DI box. It's serving the same role as a "house amp" would do. I'll be taking the Tonex One and a passive DI box. FWIW, I am actually pretty happy I'm not having to take an amp - from memory this venue sounds pretty good and has great bass response, and last time I played there (I was on rhythm guitar at the time), my Marshall DSL40CR and chonky pedalboard were a nightmare to get up and down the 3 flights of narrow twisty stairs. Now I can just take one gig bag with my bass, IEMs, Tonex One and some cables and I'm done.
  20. I once tried a Darkglass distortion pedal and it turned my (wired) setup into a noise magnet. The thing is, distortion introduces high frequencies, which therefore make things susceptible to high frequency noise.
  21. My first bass was a £50 Columbus Jazz (in 1976) - it was ok to get me going. My second bass was a £220 (in 1977) Rickenbacker and I've never once regretted buying it. So, my advice is get a good bass. You can get Fender MIM basses for not a lot. (For illustration and not for sale), I have a beat-up one which cost me £100; I wasn't sure if the damage was structural so bought it on spec, but it turned out to be rather good. One remarkably good bass with wild fluctuations in price is a Westone Thunder under £200 will get you a 1 or 1A (though you could see asking prices of £500+); they are quite heavy though. I'd recommend buying used: check Facebook, Gumtree, etc. Amp-wise, as suggested, Trace Elliot gear can be had cheaply; the gotcha is that the cabs (and thus combos too) are heavy. I recently bought a 300W head for £150, which is ridiculous! Reasonable fx pedals shouldn't be expensive - a decent one should be under £100 (eg. a Boss Bass Overdrive can be had for £40).
  22. Now £430! Here's my Markbass cab up for sale. It is in near new condition and includes a Roqsolid cover. The top carpet has a couple of indents where the amp was placed on it. Other than that minor sign of normal use it's as new. It has been used several times at rehearsal at very low volume levels and at one gig where it was only used as a monitor as I was going through the PA. It is a great cab. A real one cab solution weighing approximately 18Kg or 40lbs. I'm 70, under 11 stone, have osteoporosis and have suffered a spinal fracture and I'm happy to lug it around. Specs briefly are 2 x 12" ceramic speakers 600 watts Piezo switchable tweeter with 2 levels of attenuation 57.8 x 60 x 47 cm https://www.markbass.it/product/mb58r-122-p-4/ Tone is very Markbass, i.e. effective. Collection or meet up only. I'm in Kendal, Lake District, NW England.

  23. All prices reduced by £5 and delivery to UK included. I made space on my pedal board for an HX One. It replaced my Xotic Bass RC Booster and the pedal I thought I'd never sell, my Creation Audio Grizzy. So I now have 5 pedals sitting around doing not a lot and a hankering for a Stomp Creation Audio Grizzly. £135 Flattley Poison Ivy Fuzz £85 Black Country Custom The 85 Octave £80 Xotic Bass RC Booster £60 TC Electronics 3rd Dimension Chorus £20 All in top condition. In fact the 85, 3rd Dim and Flattely are like new. All boxed except for the Grizzly (I will keep looking). Velcro'd as per the photos. Peter

  24. I haven’t tried any of the Ampeg RB range, but have always loved Ampeg’s earlier stuff. I’ve been using a Rumble 500 combo regularly for a couple of years, ( and a 100 for four years). The 500 has been one of the best amps I’ve ever had - relatively lightweight, great sounding and reliable. As mentioned above, using the ‘vintage’ button is where the magic lies and I rarely need to make any radical eq changes in any room. I’ve used mine in a very loud blues rock trio where it’s never been lacking in volume. Also paired it with an extension cab which makes it even better. Few downsides really - handle on top isn’t the most user friendly, the DI is post master which means any volume or tone changes affect the output to the FOH sound, and the included cover isn’t very robust although okay if you’re careful. If you’re okay with these then I’d heartily recommend you giving one a try. 😊
  25. Hi Phil, yes it is. Send me a private message if you’d like it.
