I've got a 77 B00 stingray - I bought it as I always wanted a pre EB ray, it's lovely, I'm not going to sell it but it really is a one trick pony, it has one basic sound - if that is what you want then it's the right bass for the job... If I was buying with my head and not my heart then I'd go pretty much as far away from that with an HH stingray just to give it a bit more flexibility - which is why I have a Musicman reflex as well I guess..

When I got the bass (last week) the actives had been removed and a simple op amp circuit put in it's place . It was a volume pot per pickup and a simple capacitor wired as a tone control. If you turned the pickup volume to max and dug in the op amp clipped regardless of the trim pot setting on the board. A very nice chap on the Facebook Statii page is sending me the actives from an S3000 -

It's had a refinish for sure ! Just popped the controls out, the pots have scraped through the black and I can see that it used to be green. -
So - last week I got the the black Washburn Status that Bass Direct were selling - plays nicely, looks ok, sounds terrible. The actives have been replaced at some stage with a preamp that clips at max volume so they are up for replacing, paint job is ok tbh but satin black shows every mark / imperfection / finger mark so it might be in line for a refinish I guess there is a lot of history on this - so who has had it and what did you do to it ?? Thanks

I've got almost the reverse of this - I want back a bass I sold many years ago.., If anyone has a [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Hohner Jack Custom V headless bass lying around that they'd like to go to a good home...[/font][/color] [color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]The strange thing to me on this thread is that people have mentioned stingrays not matching up their expectations - I waited for years for a Pre EB stingray and when I got it it exceeded everything I'd thought about the bass. Still blows me away every time I play it[/font][/color]

Hi Steve - it's difficult - I'm in quite a small market where most pit musos know each other so the contacts are easier for me. I've done maybe ten years pit playing and a few years after starting I did nearly every show in the theatre as I got to know the MDs and the societys and I have a good work ethic which got me lots of repeat work. Then the societies started changing MD's and they'd bring a different group of players with them. I ended up finding out what show was on, finding out what company was doing it, finding out who the MD was, walking straight up to them and asking! My pit work took a back seat for a couple of years but I've got back 'in' with one of the societies and I've got the bass chair back - until my face no longer fits and I'll have to start again. I love it though. It's nice just to be this small cog in a big production machine and it';s a nice way to step to step my game up. I try to acheive a "one note a night" error rate which is what I work towards (that can be missing a flat, a miss timing etc) and I love it. One of the best moments was in my first panto where we were doing a ghost scene - I'm doubling the keyboard player and all of a sudden I realise that I can't hear myself as 600 kids are screaming "he's behind you" so loud... awesome fun. This is from the musical "Our House" this year - dressed up in the pit - no one saw me like this except the cast but it went down really well with them - and got me a gig in a Madness tribute band
