1. I've got a 77 B00 stingray - I bought it as I always wanted a pre EB ray, it's lovely, I'm not going to sell it but it really is a one trick pony, it has one basic sound - if that is what you want then it's the right bass for the job... If I was buying with my head and not my heart then I'd go pretty much as far away from that with an HH stingray just to give it a bit more flexibility - which is why I have a Musicman reflex as well I guess..
2. While waiting for the S3000 actives to arrive I've dropped a Glockenklang in with a stacked bass/treble control.
3. When I got the bass (last week) the actives had been removed and a simple op amp circuit put in it's place . It was a volume pot per pickup and a simple capacitor wired as a tone control. If you turned the pickup volume to max and dug in the op amp clipped regardless of the trim pot setting on the board. A very nice chap on the Facebook Statii page is sending me the actives from an S3000
4. It might end up trans-green again - I was considering going black centre block but with a tobacco burst.
5. It's had a refinish for sure ! Just popped the controls out, the pots have scraped through the black and I can see that it used to be green.
6. So - last week I got the the black Washburn Status that Bass Direct were selling - plays nicely, looks ok, sounds terrible. The actives have been replaced at some stage with a preamp that clips at max volume so they are up for replacing, paint job is ok tbh but satin black shows every mark / imperfection / finger mark so it might be in line for a refinish I guess there is a lot of history on this - so who has had it and what did you do to it ?? Thanks

For Sale - Akai Deep Impact SB1 Location - Isle of Man, UK Price £600 (or sensible offers) + postage You know what these do and this one does exactly what it is meant to... I bought it new, took it out of the box, put it on my pedal board where it has lived and made funky (or spooky / haunting) sounds ever since. It's in excellent working order, no marks or scratches, the display works, the switches work, the pots track etc etc. the only slight issue is there are a few bits of fluff caught in the velcro on the feet on the underside of the unit. It does not have the original box, it does not have the original PSU. How often do these come up for sale? 11. I've got almost the reverse of this - I want back a bass I sold many years ago.., If anyone has a Hohner Jack Custom V headless bass lying around that they'd like to go to a good home... The strange thing to me on this thread is that people have mentioned stingrays not matching up their expectations - I waited for years for a Pre EB stingray and when I got it it exceeded everything I'd thought about the bass. Still blows me away every time I play it
12.
thanks for that - ive asked around these parts in the usual places but it really does seem like quite a niche little closed shop tbh nice hat btw
Are you taking the pith ??
13. Hi Steve - it's difficult - I'm in quite a small market where most pit musos know each other so the contacts are easier for me. I've done maybe ten years pit playing and a few years after starting I did nearly every show in the theatre as I got to know the MDs and the societys and I have a good work ethic which got me lots of repeat work. Then the societies started changing MD's and they'd bring a different group of players with them. I ended up finding out what show was on, finding out what company was doing it, finding out who the MD was, walking straight up to them and asking! My pit work took a back seat for a couple of years but I've got back 'in' with one of the societies and I've got the bass chair back - until my face no longer fits and I'll have to start again. I love it though. It's nice just to be this small cog in a big production machine and it';s a nice way to step to step my game up. I try to acheive a "one note a night" error rate which is what I work towards (that can be missing a flat, a miss timing etc) and I love it. One of the best moments was in my first panto where we were doing a ghost scene - I'm doubling the keyboard player and all of a sudden I realise that I can't hear myself as 600 kids are screaming "he's behind you" so loud... awesome fun. This is from the musical "Our House" this year - dressed up in the pit - no one saw me like this except the cast but it went down really well with them - and got me a gig in a Madness tribute band
14.
Nice! Not sure I recognise it though, what model is it? I'm collecting a CTM100 tomorrow, can't wait
It's a small block 427 - fantastic amp, very rich fat tones and lovely and loud
15. I've got one of these. It's not the classic amps I'm seeing so far on the thread but still all valve
16. Hi Guys. I don't know why I've never found this place before. Ok - where do we start?? I've been playing about 30 years, Mainly bass guitar (BG) but for the last ten years I've done more double bass (DB) than BG. I've got a regular three piece blues/rock gig on the BG - loads of unusual tracks, some originals, two other great guys in the band who are up for some 'freedom' in what we play so it can get kind unusual some nights I add to those with a Johnny Cash tribute band on the DB - loads of fun, great nights, great band. Good times I add to those with pit gigs (theatre not "down the") - typically 3 shows a year, Normally just a week run but still ace. Next year is looking busy with 3 confirmed runs and panto already in the book (oh yes it is) And I add onto those random other gigs every now and again. Got a bit of a gear habit.... I've got 2 King double basses (slap king and a tiger king) as I did 6 years in a rockabllly band. Got a range of pit basses for what ever sound the MD wants. My normal pit bass is a warmoth gecko 5 but this year my Stingray and my Jazz have ventured in with me to get the exact tone they wanted. The blues band used to get the Jazz bass but these days the stingray is coming along more often. No reason other than it has an incredible tone ! Amps? Mainly Ashdown. I've got an ABM Evo II 500 head or a small block valve amp or a biamped power amp fed by an RPM. Which one I take depends on how little PA we have, Cabs are ashdown minis. If you are hauling an upright around the last thing you need is more hassle with heavy cabs...Also got a GK microbass for the pit where space is normally at a premium. If I could only play one style of music for the rest of my life it would be rockabilly - it might limit my theatre work but who cares - if I'm slappin the doghouse then everything is good. Just recovering from an injury at the mo - I managed to dislocate every finger on my right hand at the end of may. When I did it I thought I'd never be able to play again (and most people that saw my hand agreed) - but thanks to Shrewsbury General I was playing BG just three days later. Still not 100% on the DB as one of the finger joints is frozen but after nearly 7 months I'm starting to get that working again And if you are wondering - my user name is a cat in ASCII characters Cheers Johnny
17. I've no experience of those particular guts but I've got one of my basses strung with a full set of £40 (in total..) gut strings I got from ebay a few years ago from an indian supplier - no problems at all with them, great classic gut sound / feel and most people who've tried the bass have liked them.. Bearing that in mind I think £100 for an unbranded set is a bit pricey - it might be worth keeping a watch on ebay for others..
18.
How are you powering it all? Not from the LS-2 surely? Si
No - there is a regulated power supply not shown !! I wonder if a single PP3 could power them all
19. Ok - two signal paths, Line A EBS Bass Iq >> Boss Chorus Line B Deep Impact >> EBS Octbass >>EBS Multicomp (always on) >> Sansamp DI The black box at the back is to control the Mute and Sub on my Ashdown amp. Grey box back left is for the stage cable to/from the amp. Just realised how mucky the board is but those are the remnants of a lot of Pyros !!
20. I broke lots when I started out but I couldn't afford good strings then. As I could afford better and could afford to replace them more frequently I stopped breaking them. That said I broke a string about three years ago - an 'A' string on a double bass. That's full on psychobilly for you though...
