I have a big, unwieldy, noisy, hits-off-your-knees-when-you-carry-it, 45cm fan. It works but I sort of hate it. I once worked with a drummer who had a tiny plastic one but he could put it right behind the stool and pointing up his shirt. I called it a fan bidet, but in fairness he was the coolest on sweaty gigs.

Welcome CF. Not from Sheffield, but used to play a song in the set titled 'Hallam Calling', as I was dating the radio newsreader back in the 80s.

And I thought being shouted and sworn at was bad!

Whassup with black trainers? I generally wear trainers out and about and I prefer plain black to brightly coloured gimmick styling. (Unless you're also going to say people going out wearing trainers.) (BTW, sandals are footwear; sandles sell cars.) -

I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a parrots beak headstock. Could be a game changer 😂

I realise this is quite an old thread now... There's one thing I find useful that hasn't been mentioned - listen to the songs repeatedly. Our covers band normally add in 4-5 songs at a time. I'll pop them on to a playlist and listen during my commute, or just on in the background working from home. Sometimes I'm paying attention and listening to the bass, others it's just there to fill the silence. I find that I build up a lot of familiarity with the material, and I do a much better job of both learning my own part and keeping the band on the straight and narrow when it comes to rehearsing.

We have reached the frustrating "waiting for stuff to arrive" part of proceedings. But little things have happened. - the neck shims arrived, and I put the middle one (0.5 degree) one in. Can get a low enough action now, but the G saddle is pretty near the deck. Will try the 1 degree one and see how high that makes the saddles then decide which I prefer. - With it all strung up, did a basic setup on it and it intonates fine, not a lot of room left on the E saddle back travel, but there's a fix for that if needs be. - I found my nut files and lowered the slots to somewhere where they need to be, might chance my arm and grind them down a touch more. - I dealt with a high second fret by recrowning it - I know you should probably get the neck straight and check all the frets, but it's playing really nicely apart from that one so opted to spot fix it instead. Today a scary router bit should arrive and I'll be able to deal with the excess neck pocket material. And hopefully use the router on this bass for the last time.
